Suggestions for Future Events

I realize I'm still new to the troupe but I've pieced together some simple guidelines we need thing about for each event we plan from here on out. They are as follows:

1) Keep doing the sign up forum. This helps in game (and as Jabe showed this time should be flexible enough to change during play). This goes without saying that updating the list as the event plays out is a good idea for the GM to do (since we're all using this forum in conjunction with in game play for the most part with events I've noticed. We may want to create multiple threads for ongoing events as needed to keep from getting bogged down in the 13page thread effect. As a rule... do this for major breaks or major clarifications as needed. Sorry moderators, but I think this would help all of us out.

2) When an event is decided try to present to players participating in the event what 'has' to happen and what parts are open ended. (I imagine this is even more brain wracking than setting up a table top scenario... but GM'ing needs to be written out so you can see the big picture instead of jumping into a plot and fixing it as you go... in case with our median here). I would suggest listing and 'tools' we should not use or 'powers' that need to be limited here too.

3) Expect the unexpected... I know we're working with finite 'event dates' but, case in point, the slave event could actually be stopped before the event date arrives. In some cases, I would suggest that that not be a bad thing to let happen. If it's feasible in game. (on this one... again... I realize there seems to be a bigger plot I am as yet unaware of... but applies to some of the sections I've seen so far)

4) The Hero complex is a hurdle for all of us. In any case where this seems to be a problem... call a (occ stop) in spatial and don't resume till the person who called stop hits up an (occ resume) in spatial. This might make things run smoother for us.

5) Special circumstances. In my case it's RPing two non-jedi templates as Quasi-Jedi. This can present a problem when it comes duel time. Again... work this out as a scene happens. I've had two experiences with this already... I totally forgot to try anything with an encounter with Kirt and my second Whar and Dallion helped me Rp out a duel so I wouldn't immediately incap. Certainly 'this' needs to be limited... I've already stated in character to a few of you that "I have my limits."

6) I would suggest 1 in game meeting of all signed up event members before an event begins. Again... this is only a suggested guideline as all of these are but I think this will help us more in the future.

7) In closing... expect the unexpected again. Throughout an event outside players or people not signed up for an event can come into play... I think we all like this. Just be sure to inform them what's going on and have them contact a GM for the event as needed.

I hope this helps... and we'll certainly need to critique this guide more.

Good suggests. Many are feasible as well. :D

I would add a simple suggestion, use more GM's. There should be a GM at every planned action point of an event if possible.

If you have a group a rebels trying to kidnap an imperial officer, there should be a GM with each group.

The only thing I would really disagree with is number 6. I just don't think it works having an informative meeting in game. People get their own conversations going and it just takes forever to get through it. Plus scheduling a meeting when all members could be on would be quite complicated. I suggest something similar to what Jerrel did by Emailing each person with an Email by their category in the event. I found that enough. They could include a little more info on do's and don'ts.

As to number 5, I can see the problem you might run into there. My solution would just be that have a quick OOC conversation about what is going to happen. I believe in both of my "duels" last night I sent a tell in advance to see if the other party wanted to RP the duel or actually duel. I know I did the second time for sure. I think that makes it fair to both parties and allows both of them to get enjoyment and it only took me all of 60 seconds to do. /tell do you want to RP the duel or really duel? I'm still pretty new to these events though so maybe that is common practice.

Yeah.. the most basic of guidelines:

"Be realistic and fair (and cool). Communicate."

This can solve just about all the problems that might arise. :D

6 could most assuredly apply to the event GMs at least. We clearly need a little organization in-game before we start rolling ahead with some events. That was my only point there.
