I read somewhere that the biggest simultaneous work callout day in US history was the Wednesday when Phantom Menace debuted.
While that doesn't top the IRA ceasefire in 1971 so they could all watch "The Fight" betwwen Muhammed Ali and Joe Frazier, that still is pretty wild.

I believe it though...I had two teachers call out that day so that they could camp out for tickets. Yes that's right...two high school teacher's called in sick to watch star wars...
At least they are teaching children about the right things.

Several companies I know actually closed for the day so their employee's could see EPI.
