BMP Attack

At some point in the near past, my computer has started saving all image files off the web as .bmp. Anyone have this same problem or an idea of how to fix it? It's really irritating.

I get this occasionally. Usually a reboot fixes it for a while...and my only permanent solution has been to switch to a different web browser. Any better ideas would be appreciated by me, as well.
Is this just on IE, Dwilly, or are you getting the issue from another browser, as well?

This is almost always the case of a browser hijacking (of IE) and is generally done by some spyware or other malicious software...
I think you can do the following to alliviate the problem :P
Go up to 'Tools' then 'Internet Options', then select the 'Programs' Tab.
Then click the 'Reset Web Settings...'
See if that does it.

The day will come when Firefox users will get totally screwed.
It will be because of people like you Jabe, Firefox will be exploited, I guarantee it.
Security through obscurity doesn't last forever... :P :P :P

I was really just joking.. I still use Firefox on my home PC but not at work. IE is adequately secure, it is still not as safe as Firefox but Firefox is less safe daily - so its really a close call. So you're right.

I was just playing too, (well the facts are right) but I'm just rippin' ya
I don't use IE, and in no way am I supporting it
Ya know what I mean... I bet you still haven't even looked at Maxthon:)

It kicks ass, they can't even explain how much stuff that is in this browser man, it's rediculous...
Anyway... yeah, so did that fix your bmp problem Dwi?

Doesn't help, but thanks.

I know people have pointed to spyware removal stuff before, but could there be pointing again, if you think that's it?

Actually I've had the same problem and my solution for it was a basic one.
Delete your temporary intenet files.
For some reason when I use IE after a period of time when images just start saving as BMP only. I don't know the technical reason but a quick dump of the Internet cache and the problem is fix.
Give it a shot.
Though since using Firefox I don't have that problem anymore
