Roleplay - Warping the purpose of the AFK tag.

We could use the AFK tag for in disguise characters, OOC, NPC, anything where the toon isn't themselves. The nice thing is that you can put up the AFK tag and put a "What you see" response in the AFK auto-reply giving an on demand description with a simple "/ttell ?" ( no, not a typo. /ttell will send a tell to who ever you have targeted ).

Example of some responses:

"OOC: You don't see me. I'm not here =P"

"Disguised: You see a Twi'lek completely shrouded in a black set of ubese armor with the lekku covered in a black armor cloth. The armor makes even telling the gender difficult."

"NPC: The scared face to a human male greets you. Blind in one eye... "

Thats a pretty damn good idea in my book. I have an event coming up where I need 2-4 players to not be themselves. For example I need 2 random thugs for Borvo who could very well end up being cannon fodder. The AFK message could read "Buggo has been working for Borvo for seven year. His speciality is leg breaking."

Would it not be better to use the lesser used status tag "LFG"?

Just toggle it just as AFK using /lfg

In case anyone doesn't know, LFG is "Looking for Group".

Well, then you run the risk of random people asking you to join a group while you send the wrong message. Then after you explain the use of the LFG tag for RP and they call you some unintelligable name only a 12-year old could think up you can try AFK instead. At least then random people will leave you alone, or at least they should.

I think the looking for group tag is better...just set your options to reject all group invites. Cuz with afk, attacking and stuff is kinda screwy...I was in Eisley killing thugs and had to go afk for a second and forgot to come back. When I hit the attack button, I got the combat music by no combat.

i like the afk tag best for the auto response affect, but attacking while afk is hard, and supposed to be made impossible with a recent patch (to initiate at least). so if afk sends a bad message (looking afk that is) why not use the HELPER tag.

but this idea of denoting NPC/alter ego status is smart

Well, I think the point was that AFK 'has' an auto reply message that you can type out: Before you stands an armored figure cloaked in black; it's species and sex unidentifieable to the naked eye.

For purposes of playing an NPC in any of our story arcs where we're not ourselves.

Some rules for us would have to be if you see a recognizeable character AFK while ig during an arc would be that you send a tell to them that simply says /tell keer Examine. to get the autoreply. Chances are if their really AFK and not participating in the arc at the time you'll immediately know and this way when someone came back to the 'examine' message... they'd at least know it was to see about arc material.

As for the fights. If it came down to a dual time... 'that' is when you temporarily turn it off; Or let the other person/s start the dueling.

Why would you need to attak while AFK. Set the AKK tag on for NPC roleplaying and if you need to attack or deside to go out hunting turn the tag off. Often the simplest solutions are the best solutions.
