Third Hand Information...for What It's Worth

Pulled this from the Smuggler Forums about what was seen at the San Diego Comic Con...

First off, this is definitely not official nor confirmed. But according to this post one the of the unrevealed ships will be the YT-2400!!! If this is true, then I cannot be more pumped for JTL. This ship is incredibly smooth and efficient, with enough firepower to get the job done. In my opinion, this will probably be the premiere smuggler craft. I cant wait!!!!

While at the San Diego Comic Con, I had a chance to actually play the Jump to Lightspeed expansion for SWG. I flew a TIE Interceptor in the Dathomir sector, shooting down Hutt fighters right and left. Just thinking about it makes the hairs on the back of my neck tingle. First off, the game simply looks AMAZING. (Of course it doesn't hurt that I was playing on a 30 inch, high def plasma monitor.) The detail of the graphics is mindboggling " when you fly straight, both engines on the TIE light up. When you turn right or left, the light on the engine that is not being used goes out. It really looks incredible.

But I have some big news about the game itself. SOE has already revealed most, but not all, of the ships that we'll have in JTL. While I was playing, I took a peek at the skill trees and found some interesting info. In the Privateer skill tree, a piloting certification for the YT-2400 is listed under the Ace (Master) box. In the Rebel pilot tree, they get a cert for the B-Wing. And for us Imperials, we have a cert for the ship of all ships, the TIE Defender. I asked both Kevin "Q-3PO" O'Hara (who evidently put off retirement long enough to attend the Con) and Executive Producer Haden "Shug Ninx" Blackman about it, and they both smiled and said, "We haven't finalized the ship certifications yet.

As for gameplay, I thought the T/I handled more like a bomber from Wing Commander Prophecy than from any of the previous Star Wars flight sims. I'm sure they'll balance that properly by the time the game comes out. My only real concern has to do with leading your targets while shooting. In the previous TIE/X-Wing games, you led your target, and your targeting reticule would turn green when you could hit your target. This took some skill to figure out when you needed to shoot. When I flew in JTL, there was an icon that flew in front of the ship. If you fired at the icon, you'd hit the ship. This essentially takes a lot of the need for actual skill out of the game. I hope they change this before its release.

TIE DEFENDERS. JTL is going to ROCK

My main interest for this is the possibility of the YT-2400 being introduced. While my character would be more towards a hot-rodded Lambda Class Shuttle, I still hope for multi-passenger ships other than the YT-1300 and SoroSuub Luxury Yacht ("veteran reward ship").

Here's to hoping

Isn't that the Outrider? (Not that it isn't a YT2400, just don't quite remember what kind of ship the Outrider was)

That ship is hella cool and DEFINITELY a step in the right direction. But I still want to see like 4-8 different freighters.

it's both, the outrider was a supposedly rare yt-2400 (which we all know means nothin in SWG universe :D )

Isn't that what makes the game interesting?

I'm actually pretty excited about this. They used it in Wing Commander, and I loved it there. It still wasn't very easy to get a honed in on anyone, especially if they're flying erratically. I always thought the idea of a HUD that could predict when you were properly aiming at something, but wouldn't SHOW you its own calculations was pretty stupid myself.

Slick pic, Skarr. I've never seen that one before.

Here's a site with not such a good picture, but more info on the ship.

Here's a question: Which is better the Outrider or the Millinum Falcon?

Just out of curiosity, I take it I'm the only guy here who uses Google Image Searches?

Just had to ask, dincha Snewp? I'm weak.

Sorry, but I'd have to say the Outrider. Why? Because it worked consistently.

The Falcon may have better "turn around" to hyperspace, but that was only when it worked. The Falcon went into the asteroid field because the hyperdrive was down. I don't see that happenning to Rendar in the Outrider.

And from another practical angle, think of all the time Solo and Chewie could have spent hustlin' deals when instead they were muckin' around the Falcon's innards in drydock.

If you think about it the Falcon's maintenance problems led to the group's capture and Vader ambushing Luke (Watch out, I'm on a roll here!).

Broken hyperdrive--->Asteroid Field---->Space Slug---->Asteroid Field again---->Imperial Navy---->Clamping onto Star Destroyer--->drifting away in space junk--->Boba Fett follows--->Ambush on Cloud City--->Luke gets bad vision on Dagobah, leaves training early---->hand chopped off, Solo in carbonite!

All that over some bad alluvial dampers and hydrospanners?

Yoda might say "Bad maintenance leads to pursuit. Pursuit leads to ambush. Ambush leads to suff-er-ing..."

Can anybody tell that I've got some time off today? :D
