RP Event Discussion

I apologize, but this post is a repost from the thread that Dossk started. It got derailed pretty bad and nobody has posted on it since. I just wanted to hear what others thought of these ideas. Especially the one regarding the radio station.

I have been planning a big event for my guild and city, but it is going to be open to everyone. I thought about posting info for it here on this site but since my guild is not an all RP guild I decided against it. After reading this thread I changed my mind and decided to let you guys know about it. Perhaps you can bring the RP to the event, if you wish to attend. I have always wanted more RP in Ruby Lake, but didn't want to force it upon more of the casual gamers in Ruby Lake.

Here is the discussion I started regarding the event.

If you are interested please feel free to post there on the RC site or here. I would love to add more of an RP element to the event and would love to get feedback from the RP community, if this interests you.

There was also another thing I was going to bring up here on this site that could potentially help with RP events. I met a great group of RP'ers while playing Matrix Online and they have welcomed me into their community. They have their own radio station and offer their services to put on events for RP'ers as well as putting on their own radio shows. I have recently got a position with them as a DJ and they have already given me the green light to do SWG events. Most of their events are staged in MxO, but they are a multigaming community and have players that span the spectrum of MMO's. The listener base at this time is comprised mostly of people playing MxO, but also people playing WoW, SWG, EQ2, etc. listen in to the station.

I would like to offer my services as a DJ to the SWGTales.com community. I want to know if you think this type of thing would help the RP community, or if it would potentially hinder RP because the music I would be playing obviously never existed in Star Wars Canon. It might be best suited for "After party" type events in which it is more geared towards light hearted fun. I would be interested to hear what you think of this.

I have a lot of other ideas for events that I have had in mind for quite some time but kind of put them on the backburner because they were more geared towards RP, and like I said I didn't want to force RP on some more of RC's casual gamers. I would be very interested in discussing more of these ideas with anyone that is interested. Seret, some of the ideas I heard you discussing were in line with some of my own ideas. The player event perks are still so new I don't think we fully understand how much easier they will make our lives when planning events. I look forward to furthering these discussions and look forward to hearing your ideas.

Never be afraid to psot an event here no matter what the nature of it is.

Netx.. ROCK ON. Yeah we would love to ahve you "represent" on streaming radio. I am all about what you are talking about. Don't feel the need to tread lightly when it comes to spreading the word. This sounds really cool.

And I may try MxO soon, who knows.

I'd be up for this, but the link you give to the forum is password protected. Can you tell me a little more about what this event is about?

Thing to remember is that it can be fairly awkward for roleplayers to try and interact witn non roleplayers, and unless those people in your guild have even a little intrest in RP, it might not turn out so well. Thats not to say I feel the non RP members of your guild are going to make fun of us.

It certainly would not hurt to try though if we were to hold more RP events in Ruby Lake I would hope the non roleplayers would accept us.

As for your radio gig, I at least don't see how that can be incorporated in game where many people can listen to it, unless you wanted to make a website. I think there is one there that might be kind of like a Star Wars canon radio station called Hyperdrive Radio..or somethng. Or it could be something someone just made up

It has been long overdue. We need to put together an event and we need to advertise it to all of Gorath.

Here are some of the ideas I had in mind, please feel free to discuss these ideas and please add your own. After a week or so I hope to have some more solid plans in place so we can plan this event soon. All proceeds for this event will benefit the city and go directly into the city fund. Besides, this will be a great excuse for us to use the new player event perks Very Happy

Temporary Merchant Tent to be set up near the shuttle. In this tent I would like to put for sale, rare and highly sought after items. I want to put up all the skill attachment tapes we have accrued. (i want to have an RC only night before the sale, so all guild members will have a chance to purchase these tapes before the public does.) Ebada has expressed some interest in selling some of his enhanced weapons here, that will draw a nice crowd and Kihose is now RIS certified and will be producing some sets of RIS armor, perhaps we can find her the materials she needs so she can put some RIS suits up for sale.

Scavenger hunt droid. I have wanted to do a scavenger hunt with RC for quite some time. Finally with the scavenger hunt droid event perk, I no longer have an excuse. Very Happy If anyone is interested in heading this up, or working with me on it, please let me know. It will take more than one to plan it.

Lottery Droid. Not much to say here. We need to get together a very large pot of money to draw people to the city.

Swoop race around Ruby Lake. We could set up a race track droid and set up a big race around the area. Anyone interested in creating a track for this?

I will be auctioning off at least one Firespray, perhaps more if there is a good response to this. I have yet to figure out the exact details yet, but I may even tie this in as the prize of the scavenger hunt or I may just do an old fashioned raffle like i used to with the chance cubes.

If you you want to contribute but don't know how, a good item we could raffle off or put up for sale are AV-21's. Those are always highly sought after. If you want to put together some corvette runs there should be enough people that know how to do it. We should get a few tickets together and run it a few times.

These are just some of the ideas I had. Please feel free to add more, or expand upon my ideas. I want this to be a great event and to boost spirits around Ruby Lake. We haven't been doing much together as a guild, but this is a good way for us to work together as a team and have a very succesful event. I look forward to reading your ideas.

My guild is very open to trying new things, and some have even expressed an interest in these events I attend every week. Everyone can RP, some just have more experience than others. The one thing RC has taken great pride in, is we are respectful of others. Nobody here would be made fun of for RP'ing. Some of RC may be confused by it at first if it was unexpected, but I would think others would even try to join in and have fun with it.

The way people would be able to listen to the radio station would be to put the URL in your favorite media player or just go to the stations website and click the appropriate link (depending on your media player preference) and it will automatically open that media player and begin streaming the station right away. You will just have the media player running in the background. I personally like using Winamp and almost always have it running in the background while I play SWG so I can listen to my music.

I have been known to suck non-roleplayers in to some RP. I'd love to meet your people, regardless of there level of RP experience. We'll have fun!


Regarding the DJ thing, when I used to RP with Edora she would stream out some music that was very Goddess-esque. It did enhance the mood a good deal.

Well I found out last night that Friday nights are mine to DJ. I will be going on air about 10 pm EST and can go until I want to stop. I will be providing music for several different games. There will most likely be a party in MxO, and there will be gamers from other games listening in, as well as any of you that are interested. If you want to plug the URL into your media player, the URL is http://67.19.229.27:8010/ or you can go to www.cvcholo.net and you will find links for the different media players. Just click on the link of your preferred media player and it will open it up and start streaming the station.

If anyone else needs anymore information or if you want to make a request let me know. I am working with a somewhat limited amount of music now. I have been ripping my CD collection onto my hard drive, and I am starting to get a nice selection, but I am nowhere near close to having my full compliment of songs. If you want to hear something, I will do my best to play it or something similar. I know not everyone will enjoy my style, but you can expect to hear some electronic (all styles), rock, metal, and even some ska, jazz, hip hop, and whatever else comes to me. I can be available to cater more towards the SWG crowd for events if needed. This is a multigaming radio station. There will be people listening that play several different games.
