Ebert gave Sin City 4 stars. Now what will Xanny McRanty say

If you read the CHicago Sun-Times, yo uwould notice that 1/3 of the front page announces that Ebert gave Sin City 4 stars...

in his 2 page article he says:

"this isnt an adaptation of a comic book, it's like a comic book brought to life and pumped with steroids"

"sin city could have easily look as good as it does and still been a mess, if it were not for the energy of Miller's storytelling"

"movie is based on 3 of the sin city stories, each more or less self-contained"

there's a lot more, but I'm too tired to type it all out. I'm sure it can be found at suntimes.com

now what will the X'an man say about it.... :D

Last time I talked to him is when the first preview footage hit the net and he thought it looked terrible so I'm with Kind Lizard here. I want to here the X'an Shin Sin City Manifesto!

My mood has improved greatly with each subsequent release of preview footage/trailers.

I still stand by my original statement that the first teaser they released looked like pure ass on a stick and wasn't fit for Miller's Finest Work.

I'm actually really looking forward to seeing it, but my friggin' man-date is working all weekend.

Also, I need to check my old original run issues, because just recently it dawned on me that I think Miller once said that he'd never, EVER, let anyone make a movie out of Sin City, that "it wasn't ever meant to be a movie, it was meant to be a comic," etc.

One more thing: Hartigan's tale (That Yellow Bastard) will change the way people view movies, the same way Terminator changed the action genre back in the 80's. I wanted to go opening weekend just to see the audience reaction during that one.

My gf and I went to the movie the other night, having never read any of the graphic novels (nor having even heard of them, prior to the movie release)...

We both liked it. It was interesting...it was strange to watch at first. The first lines of dialogue sounded out of place to me...until I started watching the movie as if I were reading a comic book. Sounds strange, but personally, I feel you kind of HAVE to look at it like a comic book, or else the dialogue just seems weird and kind of out of place.

On a side note, can I borrow any (or all) of the books the movie was based on from someone around the chi-town area? There were some things that I just didn't get, and I want to read em to see what the deal is.

Yeah, you can borrow mine. I've got everything (and then some) that was in the movies. In fact, I think I've got every Sin City book ever published.

They definitely went with the very best 3 stories for this one, but Dwight has another story that's just as good.

Also, I'm now hearing they left out a TON of Marv's story (which you'll find out when you read the book) that totally rounded out his character more and makes him less of a monster, and that Hartigan's story is missing the moment I said would change action movies, so, fuck.

To be honest though, I didn't really see Marv as a complete monster.

Don't get me wrong, he was absolutely brutal at times. But I got the impression that it kind of wasn't totally his fault that he was the way he was.

for another look at the movie, go to Best Buy...if you buy any dvd, maybe cd too, you can get a free Sin City sneak peek DVD...it has the trailer, a few scene from the movie, comparing them to the original artwork, and it has a behind the scenes interviews...with many of the actor, miller, rodriguez, tarantino...basically saying that he wanted the books to be still pics of the movie...and basically that rodriguez kept harassing miller to do the movie...and that the intro was done for miller in a days shoot, to show him what could be accomplished...the rest is history...

No way. I'm reading them again first before I loan 'em all out again.

I'll bring some by this weekend when I'm done re-reading them.

Ah HA! No WONDER it looked like ass compared to the rest of the preview footage. So I WAS right. The teaser is the intro, and the intro has a lower production budget than the rest of the film.

Oh god, I can't fuggin' wait to see the film now.

/thanking god rest of film doesn't look as bad as intro

I think Hartnett is credited as "the Salesman" in the films credits.
