So...it seems that USAir is the only airline carrier on the east coast that will not allow a ferrit to be transported in the cabin of the plane. Chal bought me a little baby ferrit and is bringing it up here to NC in 3 weeks. Well, USAir wants $170.00 to fly it with her in the cargo compartment. From now on we'll be using Delta since they only charge $50.00 for flying it in the passenger compartment with its master.
If my baby ferrit Styx arrives in less then living condition, then I'm gonna have me a reason to pay a visit to USAir HQ.
I promise you they wont like me...
Grrr...>.<
Taking animals on a plane....why USAir can bite my ass.
here's a little tidbit from me to you (or anyone else)
NEVER put your pets in the cargo compartment. Any indication of fire (and yes the fire detectors do go off sometimes when there is no fire) and we will fire off the extinguishers (if they don't go off automatically).
these extinguishers are halon, and their nickname is "puppy-snuffers"

Maybe buy a cheap blanket and cut it into strips to line the bottom half of the carrier? Something the little guy can burrow down into if he gets cold?Skorixor wrote:Not too trouble you either, but cargo compartment heaters don't always work either...

I'm pretty sure that you're joking...but in case you're not here's another word of advice from a member of the aviation industry :Novall wrote:

This is not the day and age to be ackin' up against airlines, airports, or their HQ's. If there does turn out to be a problem let your attorney do the talking.
Personal confrontations can fall under a mandate that's reserved for enemies of the state.
Head it all off at the pass and go with Delta now.

It just boggles me that USAir is the only airline that wont allow small domestic pets in the cabin. You'd think since their teetering on the bring of financial destruction...they'd take anything within reason to get passengers onboard. Guess this is one reason why their going down the tubes.

Consider it a potential blessing, Ferrets are very good and chewing and destoying everything you own.

I wouldn't use USAir to fly or to send anything...chances are you/it won't get there and never will...Novall wrote:

The air temperature at altitude and at speed is a lot colder than you think. A blanket in the carrier isn't going to do a whole lot.Isleh wrote:Maybe buy a cheap blanket and cut it into strips to line the bottom half of the carrier? In the cargo area?!?Skorixor wrote:it was -50 degrees celcius the other day

Not just a blanket X'an, but shredded into thin strips and loosly packed to create lots pockets of dead air..
Still, -50? Celcius?!

let's say the ground temperature is 0 deg C (32 deg F)
the average temperature lapse rate is -2 deg C per 1000 feet of altitude
so if you climb to 10,000, you subtract 20 deg C
normal airline flights (those over an hour) usually fly between the high 20's to 40,000 feet
