Ditto.

Way to go with an ugly dude for 3 movies. Nothing says "put a nail in Bond's coffin" like that average face. I'm all for "average" actors in movies and TV (like Grisham from CSI; he's one of my favorites), but Bond?

I bet they signed that guy before Clive really came on the scene with those BMW films last year.

I smell another Timothy Dalton here.

Then again he may suprise us. You never know.

Personally I think he looks too much like a Bond villian to be Bond.

If there's one thing that I'm a bigger fan of than Star Wars, over the years it's been James Bond. If there was truly one thing that could ice my desire to RP Keer Tregga it would be if I could find a group in my local area to RP Alex Forbes, the PnP agent of my many modules of the James Bond 007 RPG. :D

Digesting all incarnations of Bond from all of Ian Fleming's books, John Gardner's books, and the films I have to say that despite what the mass public has seen, the core essence of James Bond is far off from what we've seen in the movies over the last 43 years.

As for this actor's "handsomeness", Bond of the books was hardly a pretty boy. Ian Fleming frequently desribed Bond's looks as "cruel". He got most of his action with the ladies by sheer charisma and balls. Book Bond hardly ever ended a mission floating off in a sailboat with hottie du jour. Instead he frequently ended up in a hospital ICU comatose with his boss wondering if he had pushed his agent too far this time. Bond was a very vulnerable guy with a lot of personal hang-ups, but he happenned to be very good at exposing Achilles heels of his enemies and exploiting them without mercy.

The reason I point all this out is because personally, I hope them hiring this non-traditional guy as Bond is a signal similar to what they're doing with Batman. Blast him right back to the essence of what the character started out as.

I doubt it, but this move might just get me to theatre view my first Bond film in about 16 years.

Ohh so not true. In my experience I've known of more than a few guys who got plenty of action with pure self confidence. No money, no flash. Some women find those types of personalities attractive. Can't say that I understand it, just that it does happen in real life.

Okay so if we are talking movies, then "ugly" Bond or not, he will be "nailing the hot chicks".

They're not honestly going to write a script where the hot chicks turn him down.

All I'm saying is that it'd be cool to see more emphasis on the slick & tough character that James Bond is, rather than soley qualifying him on his looks.

Check the movies, or the books as well. Bond rarely got out of trouble because he looked good. He did it because he was a smart, tough, (and lucky) mofo with nerves of steel (all of which are traits that just might get you some honeys, by the way...in the movies OR real life ).

As long as he doesnt say "This never happened to the other fellows." Like that so and so said in Her Majesty's Secret Service who was a one time bond...I'll only be partially dissapointed.

That dude looke like a real goober. Honestly, I could be a better lookin bond then that guy.

Well, Bond certainly needs it.

I was just commenting with the wife that Bond is "dead" since the gadgets no longer apply. I mean, I COULD feasibly make a BMW remote control, guided by the blue-tooth or wi-fi in a palm-pilot with a hack of a guidance interface. Sure, it would take some time on my part, but it's not like I couldn't conceive of how to actually make it work.

And if the gadgets he has aren't already on the market, we look at them as "fake" because, let's face it, we've got phones that have video-cameras in them that also play our favorite .mp3s. If we can't currently make it, it's probably not physically possible to make.

So I'd LOVE to see a Bond that's more focused on the agent kicking ass than it is the gadgets and the suave girl-getting.

I guess this makes x'an the "Q" of the forums...
