My CU Experience on TC3 (Gorath)

I took Jabe out for some fighting on the Gorath test server and played out some caves with the CU. Here are all my observations regarding my profession and related items:

1) All my brandy and canape is useless. You eat it, it does nothing. Mind pool is a percentage and you can't seem to change the cap. Although if you examine it all food has completely different properties. The usefullness of current foods may shift. Sell those crates of brandy and canape quick - people will probably want other stuff.

2) Master TKA has been visually snubbed. There are a completely different set of moves, none of which have "red streamers" and there are NO moves that look any different than what we are used to seeing from brawler profession. Just punching and kicking.

3) Very little mobbing happens. Go in to a cave and things seem to not mob you at all. Start fighting one enemy and you generally only have to worry about that enemy even if his friend are near.

4) Damage dealing has taken a hit across the board. Myself and a Jedi with a twin blade light saber took over 60 seconds to kill off your run of the mill squill.

5) Ranged combat is EVERYTHING. A pistoleer with a scatter pistol put Jabe to shame in the squill cave, dealing out damage nearly 2x faster. One player commented that his BH got farther in to the squill cave than his Jedi. Several Jedi players commented that they only get a hand full of moves before their character has no force power at all. Jedi struggled almost as badly as Jabe and were not faster than the pistoleer.

6) Melee combat goes very SLOW. The fighting was not incredibly exciting and I was not in any real danger of dying even though I was not buffed.

7) You can still master two elite professions and get the necessary boxes to become decent at a third one.

I will post more on this thread as I see it. No XP is being given out right now. Its hard to see what all of this means for FS grinders but I am guessing that it will seriously slow grinders down in the end. If the xp requirements remain as they are I am guessing it will take at least 4x-5x longer to grind out FS xp than it did before.

Other items worth mentioning.

Get ready to buy new weapons and armor:

1) All of my comp armor is worthless, everything I had my character is no longer certified for now.

2) Most of my pistols I am not certified for now either.

Skill points:

3) I started with negative skill points. I was give the pre-reqs I need for my profession automatically. I was not forced to drop anything, I am guessing this will be fixed. For the purposes of testing I dropped enough skills to fit inside of 250 points and kept master tka.

Whats your template look like? I am trying to determine how to make Jabe viable again. My current template is worthless.

Well...at this point ist more about being decisive then combat. The ones I killed were fresh out of duels or out of force. all 3 knights though.

Jedi now do like 2k dmg per hit. thats BS.

Well I am looking forward to hearing anyone else's view on elite profession in TC. From what I can see is that battle moves very slow and are not very tense. Little damage is dished out and speeds are not very exciting.

I can't undertsnad for the life of me what happened to melee visual effects. Why is TKA using all the regaular brawler punched and kicks? They took out all the names of the moves as well, "spitting rawl", etc... Now its just "Advanced Kick" and the like.

Well...this is still beta. There's a lot of items and details that they maybe haven't really figured out the exact details on yet.

Well...I spent about an hour on there this morning and this is what I have to say about it:

1. Half my weapons don't have any stats. Laser rifle (now called advanced laser rifle), Featherweight FWG5 (has the bonuses, but not damage, speed, etc), SR Combat Pistol are all unusable.

2. All my other weapons all do Energy damage no matter what they are...Geo Pistol, DX2, SG82 rifle...all energy now.

3. Re-spec seems to work fine and makes sense. I was at -14 character pts due to having TKA 0002 and the CU giving me fencer 1-4 in brawler. I gave those up and did the respec to Master smuggler, Master pistoleer, master Marksman, Rifleman 0200.

4. Using specials that used to be weapon specific with any weapon now is weird, but kinda cool. I really liked being able to use conceal shot with a pistol.

5. New ranged and melee bonuses for smugger are very nice and the ability to remove states like dizzy and stun from myself is a nice addition to smuggler (and a little bit in pistoleer).

6. Some new specials in smuggler don't appear to work.

7. After the CU comes out, you'll have to change all your combat macros, because it seems most specials changed names or don't exist as they used to be.

8. Can't really figure out armor anymore, except that I can only wear my mabari belt.

9. No idea what the combat rating is based on or what the max is, but Zannon came out at an 80.

That's what I have so far. I also noticed a few new NPCs that gave quests/missions on Dantooine and Rori, but did't try any.

I have fiddled around with my plethora of characters on TC Gorath and found pretty much what Zannon did. For Zyre I am excited because like Z pointed out smugglers got some CU love, about damn time! My BH also benefitted by the lower prereqs and was able to respec as a master TKA/master BH, I had originally dropped the BH carbine tree so as to master TKA. From what I understand all non artisan/entertainer profession boxes count towards yer combat level. A player's max combat level is 80, I was surprised to see my pre-respec BH/TKA as a level 72 with my CM/Doctor was level 80.

Only thing I have fought were a few huurtons on Dant with my BH and like most everyone miss the combat queue and hate the new interface, mostly because I am always slow to pick stuff like that up. It is disappointing about the armor certs as neither my BH or Zyre can wear their stylish padded armor any longer, and I am all about style over substance.

No matter how the CU shakes out its going to take some getting used to but to me thats not a bad thing. I play SWG primarily because of the setting and stay dedicated because of the community. Sadly I am an easy customer usually as I am not a big complainer, do not grind thru things so there is still tons of existing content that I have never tried, and tend to stay in something for a long while (3 accounts in UO for 5+ years)

Since my characters were pretty much all done skillwise, and I do not do
"glowstick" the CU gives me something new to learn and maybe change things. Here I have a BH but I do not pvp and after the CU would really love to get together with folks to learn some pvp tips, tactics, etc. Both individually as well as in team settings.

IN conclusion I certainly wish that SOE was more responsive to its customers but pretty much any MMORG cust serv usually is the last thing the company putting the game out is concerned with. I do see a great benefit occuring from reading the Gorath board, that is a mass exodus of
l33t glowstickers that think the CU is the worst thing since sarin gas in a crowded subway. Most of my good friends in the game are found here and to me you guys are more important to me then any crappy interface.

Here here man. Even though I've yet to try out Jerrel on TC-Gorath I'm glad to hear that these uber gamers are leaving. Lets just hope that their exodus wont be enough for SOE to cave again and nerf all other professions just to make jedi happy.

I crashed to desktop during my respec and now I am unable to respec.

I crashed to desktop trying to find armor to replace the comp I can't wear in Coronet.

I crashed to desktop in Theed still looking for armor.

I gave up looking for armor and I went to Talus and took some missions against pirates and I got beaten. Force of Will failed. So I ran away. Power bursted and began to try again. I crashed to desktop in the middle of combat and that was the last time I will try for a while.

I noticed, that I had only 2200 health at 4/0/0/4 TKA, Master Swordsman, Master Dancer with my -11 skillpoints non-respecing self.

I noticed I could only drink 1 brandy even though my stomach was not full.

I noticed that the pirates did not DB me but I got 100 BF for being incapped.

I also noticed other pirates attacking me.

With powerburst and brandy, I could only get my health up to 2900. +500 health for the powerburst, +200 for the brandy.

I also noticed that when I meditated, wounds healed for stats that were not visible.

~~

I just wanted to add that I had hopes of respecing back to Master Smuggler and taking up Novice Commando and wanted to try it out. :???:

Just my two cents on the little bit of time I spent on the TC this afternoon.

1) The camera and character controls threw me off for a few seconds (not being able to use my mouse to move the camera), but I know I can get used to it...

2) Couldn't use my republic blaster :(. Used a CORSEC scout pistol that I had in inventory, and I'm not sure but I think the damage stats were higher on it.

3) My creature's levels are all freaky and the damage done by them is different. My Greater Sludge Panthers now are lvl 23 and do 120 - 230 dmg. Were level 25 and did 240-250. Good and bad - are now 'triplet pets' (can have three out when master CH), but it don't like that much of a range in the damage I could do. Others that went down - Huntress lvl same, damage drom 270 - 280 now down to 130 - 240. Crimson Razor Cat lvl from 29 to 27, damage changed from 305-320 to 140-250. My bioenginered pets did not change attack stats at all so I suppose it's just the wilds that are getting a revamp (damn...).

4. Can wear a full set of padded armor (both arms, chest, and boots) when before I could only wear the chest and boots.

5. Have things changed position on the Pistoleer tree? Stopping shot is Pistol Grips I, Warning shot is Pistol Grips II. I do like the idea of dizzy and blind recoveries being given. Haven't tried them yet, but a good idea.

6. Can someone explain to me the 'battle armor accuracy mitigation'? It appeared in CH and I have no idea what's up with it....

Overall, I do like it and I think I'll adapt fairly quick. The icons are still weirding me out (it looks like some other game..), and it's the first time I've seen murra so close to cities (usually only have gnorts or durnis or other creatures... ). I don't like the adjustments to my pet damages (especially the crismon razor cat and huntress) and that gripes me a bit. Do like that I can wear all my armor. Don't like the camrea at the moment and that I can't see my creature's HAM bar when I'm grouped with it....

:deposits two cents:

Or maybe that was because of Force of Will....

Just remember everyone, you CAN change the camera and controls back to the old SWG mode in the new system!

Amen to that! :D

Community is far more important than game. IMO. :D
