Depressed over the CU

And I haven't even played on the TC. I tried, mind you, but I got dropped just after loading and didn't have the heart to try again. I HATE trying to beta things...I much prefer the finished project.

But the whole CU thing is just depressing me. I have heard nothing but negative negative things from it...it just sounds like they are going to totally ruin the game. And even if they don't, it also sounds like the already depopulated servers are going to get even more that way when folks leave the game in disgust.

I just wish I had more trust in the devs to do this properly. SWG devs have a long long history of getting things WRONG...much more than they do of getting things right.

*sigh*

Its also a matter of no love for the veteren players either. Well maybe they have a little love because there were some valid problems out there but overall they are using clever marketing strategy.

The time of the release of the CU is the same as the movie. They could care less if they lose a ton of veteren players. After the movie hits theatres there will be a new influx of customers who will use the new system and will know nothing about how things were.

I will lay you odds that the movie will have an advertisement for the game saying something like "You have seen the Star Wars Universe, now come play in the Star Wars Universe."

Who ever at Sony came up with the idea to release this at the same time as the movie is probably gonna get a big bonus to his/her paycheck.

I can't fault anyone of SOE's staff for the marketing tie in to the movies...it is a sound business decision and its one they made intelligently. No griping from me about that. In fact, you might notice I don't gripe about the CU at all...wanna know why?

Because I (like many) am still gonna be here after it comes. I didn't get into SWG because of the combat queue. I didn't get into SWG because of the buff system. I doubt very much that many people did. I got into it because it is FREAKING STAR WARS. Its like a childhood dream to play a character in one of the coolest stories ever written.

We get too caught up in "MY profession is getting shot to hell" when we should be looking at an entire system. We habitually complain about things that haven't even been introduced to the game yet in an unobjective manner. Test center isn't the end all be all for the game, is it? How many times have we seen things from test center that never made it to the game?

Everyone is entitled to their opinions on the CU, no denying that. But can we at least keep the griping to the existing threads until we actually have a finished product? I can only take so many "the CU is going to damn SWG" threads per day. Its a rule I have.

Then we can complain until the cows come home. I might even join in! :)

Deltar brings up a good point...

We CAN still play Star Wars after the CU. :D

But others bring up good points as well. The veteran players should be treated like gold. Give us a little love and we will play your game for a long long time. We're like that. :D

We don't ask for much, do we?

I feel like so many people are caught up in how less uber they've become--and they forget that the whole point of the Combat Rebalance is just that, to balance the professions. IMO, for the most part players just aren't giving it a chance yet.

There's also this big scream that SOE doesn't listen--they've got this "CU Blog" that is kinda dorky, but I stumbled on it today looking at the main site and caught this little bit...

"We are aware of all the concerns (is that putting it too mildly?!!!) and particularly those related directly to these central issues and I want to reassure you that we are working hard on looking at them even more closely. The not so good news is that we cannot put a fix in for every issue nor can we put a fix in for major issues overnight."

And also... "Finally, it is worth repeating that even when Combat Upgrade goes "live" it is not finished - we will continue to refine and polish the experience for some months to come. " While it's a complaint many players seem to have about SOE, that they test in live rather than testing out the bugs before release, I think it's just company policy and they work out the kinks as they go. Everyone's also ignoring how much information and how open they've been with us [player base] when they started releasing info on the CU. I feel like they're doing better. I think there's just some fundamental company policies that we probably will just have to forver deal with.

Me, I'm with Krusshyk--I came for Star Wars. While I may not agree with everything they're doing in the CU or the interface or whatever, I'm staying for the SW, the community, and because I love playing the game. If I log on after CU and Dwilah's suddenly a human or something, then I might be a little upset...but other changes, I can handle.

Thanks you for pointing out that post Dwilah - I am glad to hear that in general they are still evaluating this. I think most of us, knowing that release is only weeks away thought that we were looking at a release candidate on TC.

Y'all are making me feel better...I just want to hear more positive things. All I have heard so far are just negative negative negative stuff...its kinda hard to maintain a positive attitude in light of all that.

I have yet to get on TC and check out the CU. I joined the game last year and have seen many ups and downs, and of course have heard of the many shortfalls that happen before I joined. But this is still Star Wars, and that is why I came back after my long departure. Sure, I'm not to thrilled about hereing that the TK is losing it's flashy moves and power, but if nothing hit's me, I think i can at least live without the power. But no matter the changes, I'll stick around. Besides, all you craxy people make life a little more interesting in game. 8-)

Remember also everyone that its still only in testing. I know we have all had issues with the decisions on what SOE has decided to change and what they haven't (Smuggler Revamp?HELLO????!!!???) But give them a chance to get whatever kinks they are trying to work out done. Its possible that TKA wont lose any animations. They may be holding the animations to make sure the combat itself works and then do the icing later.

And a huge /cheer for everyone that has mentioned that we come here to be in Star Wars not just combat. I havent really done much combat at all for the last three months and I'm having a great time :D

Please forgive me if I mis-spoke. I didn't mean too. I don't play SWG for the combat but for the chance to interact with some great friends I have made out here. I have to admit that I am saddened though cause a real good friend of mine has decided to stop playing.

That is the part of the CU that I am going to hate, the one that drives away those veteran friends of mine. They weren't I33Ts or anything like that, I don't know any of those. But the way things other than just the changes to combat are making them leave.

I'm a MCH and I still stuck with the profession even after they made BEs more in demand than me.

I will still be here after the CU. I look forward to running around with those friends of mine that stay as well, and making friends with the new folks that come on board.

Please forgive any wrong impressions I may have given.

I am not ganna type a huge thing about the CU. I am just going to say that I have speant much of my time on TC3EP3 and have figured out which combo's are best under the new CU and have figured what is strog against what and what is weak against what. I will have little to no affect when this goes live because I will be well preped and ready to go. I just wish they took away the charecter levels because I find it mean how people will pick on someone who is like level 45 when they have a level 80 template.

Over all this thing will make no affect and I love the weapons so I will be stocking up.

The one thing I like about the "level" rating in the template.. it makes it easier to do fighting tourneys because you can put people in the proper division.

This way I can go up against wimpy entertainers and crafters like myself.. and not get pwned mercilessly by level 80's. In theory anyways. :D

Now there's a great idea, Jabe where are you?

Frankly I haven't tested the CU to be honest, however I've read about every article published by the Dev's and many players, as well as speaking to them personally on their testing. And I'm not concerned about it at all, in fact I can't wait till it hits.

Now I expect as their most recent post mentioned there will be bugs that need fixes after the publish so it will be a bit buggy but I like the idea that I can't kill a Krayt Dragon.

I find most people who complain about the CU are comparing what their template is in the CU to what someone elses template is now, which isn't a fair comparison. They scream TKM or Jedi is getting nerfed. In reality yes they are, but so is everyone else.

it is easy to get upset or nervous about things yet to be revealed in the CU. maybe another approach would help...

example) personally I dislike the lack of variation in clothing/armor styles accross the galaxy than the rise in Jedi population. the CU should remove the requirement for composite as the "best" armor, and further limit who can use it. post CU will see some more varied star warsy outfits which will add to the feel of the game.

also concerning pvE, unsoloable krayts and nightsisters should help lower the uber loot rate, maybe now groups will need to work together to best the fabled ancient krayts, or die trying :P

and yes combat will be way different, but at least the era of hit3/head hit spam is over. pvp success may hinge on battlefield tactics now making a squad leader a prestige prof, carbineers may now be able to take a position on the battlefield and stay put while the mobile proffs run in and strike...

the CU is comming and i am excited :P
