I feel weird...

Logging into SWG tonight was bizarre.

People were pissed.. and confused, and pissed about being confused.

As someone who loves this community, I want to be able to say something that makes people think that everything is okay. Well.. here is my stab at that..

Change

Change, when we are in control of it tends to feel good. Change when we are not in control tends to feel very bad. I think that is what we are all feeling right now. We were all, for the most part, happy with how things were.

What am I happy about? This community.. and many friends I have made. I dig my character. She is my first real roleplaying character that I really really got into.

I dont think that we will lose many people permanently. People may get pissed and cancel.. but it is very easy to come back and many many people do just that.

One thing I would ask.. don't suggest that you are going to quit unless you truly truly 100% intend to do so.

I for one and sticking around. And for those who do, I look forward to playing with you. We may have some re-inventing to do, but that can be very very exciting. :D In SWG.. I have pretty much had to make a whole new group of friends FIVE different times. :D This last group has lasted the longest by far.. and I intend to keep that going for as long as possible. :D

Game on.. and may the force be with you!

I'm really happy to see something positive come up around here. I understand that people are upset because their world has been shaken up like an ant farm and they need to vent but eventually the anger just brings on more anger. I won't tell a single person here they are wrong and get over it, I just urge you all to take a breather and relax a bit.

But I am biased here. I logged on for the first time in a long time tonight. I messed around crafting new weapons and then logged Seret to give combat a try. I gave it 15 minutes and at the end of that time I loved it. I really did and I'm almost afraid to admit it. Now THAT is weird.

Don't get me wrong, its not perfect. There were crafting bugs and I have to relearn how to use all my weapons and ablilies effectively. I have to get used to a combat system all over again. Problem is I enjoy that. I downright waved a flag and said "BRING IT ON!" I disliked the previous combat system, weapon system and armor system SO much that this CU was a breath of fresh air. I will actually get me playing more frequently again. No more boring combat in my book.

I just want to say that I know this is a great community and I am confident you will all adapt and overcome this. If you chose to leave by all means do so because if you are not having fun then you should move on. Just give it some time and let it play out. In the end you may even share my view.

Peace,

Seret, I'd have to say I agree whole heartidly with you. I loged on and spent probly the longest in game I've spent in a long while just messing around and experimenting. A group of 4 of us even hit the DWB for the first time since mobs were added to test out our skills. We had a blast. It wasn't near as hard as we all expected it to be, and we actually made it down a decent ways before deciding to turn in for the night. (A couple of us had died, and without a healer it can be a bit of a hassle). I actually look forward to getting on again tonight and messing around some more.

I have to agree also.

My first day Just for kicks, I decided to try Rifleman (and finally complete my first Holo  )

There were bugs but there were some damn cool things.

When a rifleman uses cover, they go semi-transparent, they dissapear from other's radar and they dissappear from the overhead map. I could hide in PvP and snipe other players and they couldn't just find the red dot and come kill me. Use a Tusken Rifle with very hard to see shots?

I was hitting things and doing 2k damage with an "okay" T21.

On of the bugs was that the big huge T21 did not go semi-transparent so there was this huge T21 moving across the desert with a ghost me behind it.

Finding places that I could actually use cover was hard since there was no indication of where I could use the skill. Once I could go into cover, I could move out very slowly into the open and stay in cover. But if anything got near me, including members in my group, my cover was broken.

Overall?

At only level 60, I was putting big holes in the HAM of a level 72 Mountain Dewback. The only problem is that it started looking for what was shooting it and as soon as it found me.... incapped before I could stand.

I can't imigine if a pair of Rifleman worked together.

It's not for me though. It takes alot of patience.

Regardless of how good or bad everyone thinks the CU is, it has brought back one very important thing.

People are again asking "I wonder what if ... "

Now you're talkin' Sister Isleh. I'm going to take you out for a drink.

What I noticed last night was something amazing. I noticed choices. Now I can build an attack plan, form a strategy and affect my opponent in a variety of ways that really makes a difference.

The first thing I noticed was something I recieved with my 4th level of 2H swords in Brawler... Break Armor. The ability to debuff my enemy is something I adore in other online games and now I can have it in SWG as well. I would rather debuff my enemy than buff my own stats.

I no longer feel like my Action menu is full of skills I will never or hardly use. I won't feel like 90% of them are useless. Instead I now see an action menu full of usuefull and interesting skills. I now have a combat pattern of 5-10 different attacks rather than one or two. Now THAT is progress.

Everything from the power bars, cooldown timers, and health/action bars had my head spinning. I knew I would need a good amount of time to re-learn and re-master my method of combat. That simple fact put a smile on my face. If there is nothing more fun in a game for me its training myself to use the best of my ability. This next month is going to be a blast.

I know others are too bother by the bugs, SOEs customer response and the crash of their templates but I'm hoping that sooner or later we'll all start enjoying this system together. I know group hunts are going to be a lot more fun.

Other than the good things already mentioned here...

What about all the weapon reskins?

I think they kick major ass. I had looted 6 rocket launchers in the bark mite cave prior to the CU...after the CU they became an eqiupable weapon that looked like an uber modified rifle. My laser carbine was given a little stock and a scope on top, the EE3's details look awesome., the Elite Carbine now has the stock that was originally collapsed in the extended position, my DL 44 metal got changed into a DL44 xt and has a long skinny scope mounted on it now, and my 2 bow casters got turned into assault bowcasters that have what looks like a pair of long, thin binoculars mounted on top.

I am pleased as punch with just how things LOOK now. Oh an the Intimidator pistol looks like teh bomb.

Man I am going to be replying to this thread all day.

Actually you could have stocks and scopes before. It was just the fact that scopes were useless and weaponsmiths didn't usually put stocks on their weapons because it raised HAM costs so most of the ones you'd find were bare. Because of this a lot people didn't know the EE3 carbine was actually the same as Boba Fetts if you put a stock and scope on it.

I'm working on putting all the new weapons in the Blackfire weapon shop just so folks can see what they are like and tell if they are certed to use it or not. Might take a bit of time but they'll all be in there eventually.

My favorites so far are Intimidator pistol and the new carbines. They have some style to 'em.

I know you could have scopes and sights before, but some of them have been retooled. I had an EE3 from cista that was a HAM beast, but it looked exactly like Fett's carbine, and it now looks much sharper. Like they nitpicked the details and made some little protrusions that weren't there before. And my DL 44 metal HAD a scope (it looked like a metal version of Han's) but now the scope is almost the entire length of the gun.

The changed something. I think Skor was telling me that a lot of the Heavy weaps got a new look too.

Oh, and the Master Smuggler blaster looks like something outta Buck Rogers.

Heres another plus that hasnt been realized since game launch. I did my respec and went..hold on to your seats..Master Squad Leader. Thats right the utterly useless profession is now a real profession.

Not only do I know get two great new weapons to use (the E5 carbine and the intimidator pistol everyone is ape over) but my skills with a group actually contribute!! Go figure 8)

I went hunting with Rebecca a little last night..she as a master sword level 60 I think and me level 80 with my SL and master carbineer....she fought better and at a higher level when in my group. I add group offense and defensive bonuses instead of just shouting out a bunch of useless drivel that keeps you from being able to use any specials.

Bugs bugs bugs. They're frustrating. But as a player since the original launch outside of the hologrind I havent seen anything that hasn't eventually helped to move this game forward.

Signed a very relieved newly appointed squad leader :)

Sorry, I meant to agree as well as point out the old scopes and stocks. The weapons in my shop actually bounced all over the place because they got new looks. Since the heavy weapons are no longer tools but rather big ass guns with grips they flew all over the place.

I made a few weapons like the massassi knuckler and the RSF sword, both very cool indeed.

What I saw in the CU that made me giggle like Krusshyk peaking in the girls locker room was the Recover Dizzy/Knockdown abilities. They have finally destroyed the bane of my existence. No more carrying anti-knockdown food on me at all time. Goodbye Dizzy/Knockdown combo, I will not miss you even though I have used you myself quite often.

The loss of these has completely nerfed my pwnership of Gorath. Once again - one man's gain, another man's loss. :)

I have to say I didn't (in my first night of testing anyway) find those recover skills useful at all. I rarely get knocked down in combat and maybe that's part of the reason but I found that I just kept fighting through the stun. What I wish we got a recovery for was intimidate.

I'd actually love to see a few group hunts here pretty soon. Great thing is we can all respec to fit the mission those nights. I'd like to see a Krayt Hunt and maybe a DWB or Geo Cave hunt or even the vette.

However I did find myself using the same specials. Because they work with every weapon I ended up only using handful. Charge Shot first because it seemed to KD the target 100% of the time on the first shot. Followed by Improved Critical Shot for some really heavy damage, then as they were getting up Confussion Shot for a state or two then really just spam critical shot for the kill. This worked very well even if I was out matched by 2 CL's.

I am very pleased. I think the gap between melee and ranged has finally been balanced... *rooted* is way powerful when its ranged vs melee. when we are berserk we can do specials!!

fencer has a great move to slow action regen and stun hurts regen too. combat is way different, its hard to know what to do. I am motivated to find creatures and just practice practice practice :)

hunting is a challenge again and thats a HUGE improvement to a few days ago

I agree I felt a little like I did when I first started playing before buffs and working up the marksman tree. I was very wary of anything conning purple. And actually didn't engage any.

I'm going to have to try out pistols to see how the roots work. It seems like an interesting concept but last night I really just used KD.

Maybe I'll try a Melee profession next time, hard to say, I just love MBH specials right now. Although it's hard learning all the new icon's they're somewhat confussing for a simpleton like me.
