Favorite movie characters of all time

Just watched a movie last night that had a character in it that makes my personal list of cool arse movie characters of all time. Already on my list in
no particular order;

Han Solo played by Harrison Ford in Episode IV
Doc Holliday played by Val Kilmer in Tombstone
Jack Sparrow played by Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean
Martin Riggs played by Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon
Martin Q. Blank played by John Cusack in Grosse Pointe Blank
Leon played by Jean Reno in Leon: The Professional
Frank Martin played by Jason Statham in the Transporter
Corky played by Gina Gershon in Bound
Jen Yu played by Ziyi Zhang in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

I see a theme in my list but to add my newest I challenge folks out there to tell me what movie the character is from, character in question
*drumroll*

Col. Douglas Mortimer

In the movie the character originated I think he stole the show from who the movie is normally associated with. Hints will be forthcoming if no one cheats and uses Google, as I see it hits the name pretty easily.

I know it, I liked the actor in both roles, the one where he's all bad, and the other where he's pretty good. I can't put my thumb on his first name though... I wont spill the beans yet...

some of my favs:

George C. Scott as George S. Patton

Val Kilmer as the Janitor in Red Planet...

Willem Dafoe (almost any role) As the detective in Boondock Saints...
Probably the best and worst character in the movie, you have to admit its hillarious though. "There was a FIREFIGHT!!!"

Samwise Gamgee. LOTR 1-3 Sean Astin

Fred C. Dobbs in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre - comraderie and decency turned to paranoia and greed. The best that I've ever seen it done. (Humphrey Bogart)

Heywood Floyd in 2001: A Space Odyssey - despite his limited time in script/screen, his cool and casual demeanor chills everybody out and gives them confidence. (William Sylvester)

Rocky Sullivan in Angels With Dirty Faces - one of the best gangsters on film portrayed by the best actor of gangsters ever (James Cagney).

Jet Rink in Giant - hunger and raw ambition turned to ugly excess and self destruction. (James Dean)

Buddy Love in The Nutty Professor (original) - funny and actually cool. The first time that I realized Jerry Lewis could act beyond the goofball.

Linkage from a past thread on characters http://swgtales.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... ight=dobbs

*craps himself with laughter*

The MST3k version of Mitchell? Where the hooker asks him if he is interested and his pistol comes loose, and drops inside his pants... Classy!!!
looked like he dumped a loaf.

fav female actors/characters:

Jodie Foster, Clarice... Silence of the Lambs (but then again Anthony Hopkins plays one of my favorite rolls ever in that movie. Thats one I overlooked)

Rachel Weisz, as Tania Chernova From enemy at the Gates (allthough that sex scene is incredibly disturbing, and probably the biggest turn off I have ever seen. Its amazingly un-hollywood for a scene like that where you can see the dirt under their fingernails... so creepy)

another male
Cary Grant, as Roger Thornhill in North by Northwest.

oh, and dont forget Chow Yun Fat in Hard Boiled, and A Better Tomorrow 2! :) fistfull of mooks!

(In no particular order except the first)

Ashley J. Williams - Bruce Campbell - Evil Dead series
(no shocker there for those that know my obsession with Evil Dead)

Han Solo - Harrison Ford - Star Wars IV-VI
(I'll throw Indiana on that one just for a shorter list)

Jack Sparrow - Johnny Depp - Pirates of the Caribbean
(and soon enough Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - can't wait)

LeeLoo - Milla Jovovich - The Fifth Element

Danny Ocean - George Clooney - Ocean's 11

Blade - Wesley Snipes - Blade (all 3 - yes even the last one)

Willy Wonka - Gene Wilder - Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Billy Mack - Bill Nighy - Love Actually

Clark Kent/Superman - Christopher Reeves - Superman series (except IV which I loathe with a passion. Margo Hemmingway getting carried into space and then falling when dropped - COME ON!)

The Joker - Jack Nicholson - Batman

John McClane - Bruce Willis - Die Hard series

Which character was that in Love Actually? I loved that movie but that name I cannot place.

Edited to add that I love George Clooney in anything! He does us Kentucky boys proud.

Gotta toss in another Bogart...

Sam Spade from The Maltese Falcon. After over 60 years there still hasn't been too many characters written and acted like this one.

Scene to scene I find myself admiring then deploring this character's actions. All the time for genuine reasons. And he's timeless. Sam Spade would fit into any timeline and universe.
