Support Chat transcript...

THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE THIS ONE, ITS MOSTLY A RANT. BUT IM SICK OF WASTING MY TIME WITH CRAPPY ANSWERS AND THEM CHANGING STUFF AND SCREWING ME...

CSR Chris R.: What kind of lag, are you getting the lag where you will freeze or the stuttering lag
war sloth: freeze
war sloth: it shows on my task manager too... I took screenshots of the meter...
war sloth: the game was fine before the CU and ROTW
war sloth: I turned the graphics down and everything, the only thing that helps is if I zoom into first person and stare directly at the ground
CSR Chris R.: Yes I understand that, but I would highly recommend getting a 256MB video card, the requirements went up some when ROTW came out
war sloth: I can use the map to navigate that way for checking harvestors and such, but thats it, if something attacks me im screwed
war sloth: yay
war sloth: so the whole game changed, even though I dont have ROTW
war sloth: I have been waiting to see if there's a fix available before making a descision to buy ROTW or quit alltogether
CSR Chris R.: The game itself as a whole has been changed along with the CU.
CSR Chris R.: 128MB video will still run the game, but it will not run it all that great

war sloth: so a game that used to run very smoothly, is now barely playable? and I have to go pay more money to upgrade my computer to play it?
war sloth: And all the time and money I have already put in this game just get flushed?
war sloth: I didnt change anything, you folks changed the game so it wasnt compatable with my machine, or my video card. Even turning stuff down all the way, the game is unplayable.
CSR Chris R.: You do not have to but I would recommend it form better game performance, it is stated on the box that game play may change
war sloth: GAMEPLAY.... not game requirements
war sloth: is that in the EULA?
CSR Chris R.: Yes but look at JTl, before it launched you could run the game with 256MB of RAM, now if you try to run the game with that you will get a message saying that you do not meet the minimum requirements
war sloth: I have spent a lot of time talking to people trying to get this fixed. I get the impression no one really cares. Even though I am paying for this...
war sloth: the base game without JTL???
CSR Chris R.: Have you tried rolloing the drivers back to a previous version
CSR Chris R.: Sometimes that does help

war sloth: my video drivers?
CSR Chris R.: Yes
war sloth: you guys told me to upgrade them
war sloth: then told me to reinstall direct x (both gave no result)
CSR Chris R.: Yes we always recommend upgrading them, but sometimes, every computer cannot run the newest drivers
war sloth: some guy even told me it was zonealarm and my router, he didnt see me telling him it was graphics lag...
CSR Chris R.: Okay I am going to send you an e-mail of some files we are going to need to see if we can resolve this issue
CSR Chris R.: One moment please.

war sloth: my computer has no problem running other games with the new ones.
war sloth: ughh...
war sloth: if I want to close my account how do I do that, since the button is gone from the interface??
war sloth: the cancellation button described in the support is conveniently "missing"
CSR Chris R.: Okay I have sent you the e-mail. Please compile these files and send them back as soon as you can. We will then look them over and see if we can figure out what the issue is and reply back to you via e-mail
war sloth: if it doesnt help how do I cancel my subscription?
CSR Chris R.: You will want to come into live chat and or contact us at 858-790-7820 to cancel
war sloth: why isnt there a button anymore?
CSR Chris R.: it was removed when the Platform team redid the launchpad.
war sloth: Your hours are terrible, and there is supposed to be a menu to edit/cancel subscriptions.
CSR Chris R.: Yes there was, but the Platform team removed it temporarily
war sloth: that's convenient. How bout they Redo it back in, so customers can follow the instructions and close the account. it has been removed for several months now.
war sloth: and my brother used to play but they messed his account all up and he ended up paying for several months while he thought it was cancelled.
CSR Chris R.: Unfortunately I have no say so over that. All that is over my head
war sloth: Im complaining, Tell them customers are pissed. You know if customers get ticked and leave then people lose jobs...
CSR Chris R.: Send that feedback to swgfeedback@soe.sony.com
CSR Chris R.: Is there anything else I can help you with today war?

war sloth: but SOE is too big to flop, you just keep screwing SWG customers.
CSR Chris R.: Thank you for visiting our SOE Chat line, war. Take care and have a Good Day!

Weird...I don't recall reading anything about needing to update my hardware in order to play the game.

And I don't know about his "get a new video card" schtick either...I play on an Nvidia T1 4200 (128 MB) video card and a shitty DSL connection and I get better frame rates and have fewer lag issues than many of the people here on the boards.

Have you considered maybe upgrading your RAM? Cheapest performance booster I can think of.

Good call on the RAM.. we upgraded from 512 to 1 gig a while back and the difference was HUGE.

If you dont have a gig of RAM then SWG is gonna be a shitcake with wee frosting.

Before you get a new vid card, toss in MORE RAM. Its cheaper and usually fixes the problem. If you dont have enough ram then your vid card has to crank out twice as hard to keep up with what your doing.

A 128 meg card should be doing prefectly fine for you.

I have 1.2gb of RAM and this was such a dramatic difference in game-play that I am still using the freebie Radeon 8500 Seret donated to me to get back in to gaming. I have bought new cards and the difference in graphics was minimal.

I even loaded WoW and SWG simultaneously a couple of times. :D

As far as the "help" you got - as you can see its worthless. I don't bother to ask for it unless I am seriously desperate anymore. I dread having to be that desperate to be honest.

As far as help and avoiding problems here is what I do:

A) Come here.

B) Check with other forums (even SOE) and RL friends.

C) Never take new quests that might be bugged, wait for them to have known problems and take them after confirmed fixes. Still haven't done the clone armor quest and I am glad I haven't!

D) Always have a ridiculous amount of RAM.

About 256 meg cards... I think that's a bunch of bullsh!t. From what I recall is that the architecture of most games won't even use the extra 128mb as of yet. WTF?

ok krussh, we have the EXACT same video card. (NVIDIA Ti4200 GeForce4) mine runs everything else flawlessly. As for RAM I only have 512, at 333 or 400 mhz, I think its 400, I could look at my bios or jumper on through the window, but Im lazy. I have been considering upgrading to a gig, but being forced to pisses me off. They shouldn't make changes that screw over their customers. there is no reason to up the minimum performance for non-expansion players.
What if I don't want their freaking expansion!

Just as an FYI, editing your subscription isn't gone from the launchpad but is hidden a bit. Instead of being under "My Account," it's under "Register Expansion." It gives you payment and cancellation options there.

This reminds me of my Rant in a sprint store, when they told me my phone was too old, and they didn't have ana adapter to update it.
I get tired of people making products they know they will make obsolete or expire. I dont feel like paying $100 every year for a new phone...

so now ATT (now cingular) gives me free ones :)

If we are running the same card, then I would definitely say its the RAM. I just updated the drivers for the very first time in about 2 years and I had no problems. I had no problems before the driver update either, I only did it because the Half Life 2 thingy said I might have probs if I didn't.

I also run at a gig, but I forget the speed. When I was looking for ram, I looked at a place called newegg.com and tigerdirect.com.

Every once in a while there is a real steal on stuff from them, you just gotta keep your eyes open.

is there any way I might be able to free up, or open up more space on my RAM, I already have minimal stuff running...

A friend recommended pricewatch.com

I'm not sure about it though now. When I used it to get memory 2 years ago, the site policy had a complaint system for inacurate listings. Now that policy has changed and the complaint system, I can't find.

Now if that information is in the least bit accurate.....

Still. 1 gig of memory helps ALOT. I tried to play with just 512 when I had to have some replaced.
