Well I watched the last two episodes of Enterprise tonight. It was neat seeing some of the things they dug up from Trek mythologyover the past few episodes. However it still wasn't enough to overcome the bad writing.
They never wrapped up the "alternate universe" episodes and so that plot just sorta disappeared. As far as the last two tonight, they were very nostalgic although badly written. I won't be missing this series as long as B&B are at the helm.
RIP Star Trek 1966-2005. Hopefully the decent writers will get stored frozen with Gary Coleman, Vanilla Ice and Austin Powers until B&B kick the bucket. Then maybe we can have some good Trek again.
:hopes the Trek MMORPG will be decent.

Diane Carey is the writer that could bring balance to the Trek...
She is the chosen one!
/agree to send Brannon & Braga to Talos IV where they can believe that they are the saviours of Star Trek.
I concede that with all of the spinoff series original material is hard to generate, but there is still new territory to be mined in the "more adult" audience a la Battlestar Galactica....or once again they could let Diane Carey write a season of shows.
Star Trek MMO (Star Trek Online) development is in a good position for education. They have a few existing MMO's to help gauge what works and what not to do.

While I loved the mirror universe/What If? story arc tying into the Thollian Web ep of ST TOS it did feel like a mini series in itself as it was self contained leaving you with the dangling but dead sexy Empress Sato as the last image from the arc.
I remember Jolene Blaylock months ago commenting in an interview how disgusted she was with the way the writers were scripting/plotting the final arc. To me Enterprise as a show with characters I really enjoyed with much potential that were seldo ever given anything interesting to do. I especially will miss Trip,Hoshi, T'Pol, Malcolm and Phlox. Plus with Trek in a coma for now where is Jeffrey Combs going to find work??!! He is probably already
working on his "Will wear facial prosthetics and act menacing for food" sign as I type this.
I am not sure if he could write for television but someone I would love see take a crack at writing for whatever lies is the Trek universe future would be Peter David. I love his Star Trek New Frontier series and he has shown there he has a great grasp of the Trek mythos. He also is the only writer that ever once made the Hulk interesting to me as his run on that book in the 90's is an instant comic classic.
Zzzzzz
P.S. How damn sexy were "Empress" Sato and submissive T'Pol during that mirror universe arc? Yum!!

I agree with quite a few thing already stated here.
Empress Sato--frikin hot. I always liked here character and its a shame that when they finally have a really good arc for her they leave it hangin like that.
The last two episods last week where so weak. It was hardly a fitting end to the franchise. I was cool to see them tie into the past shows some but it was very lacking.
I will miss the unspent potential of Enterprise. I think that this serries had the most promise out of the last three serries. It had well rounded characters that people did love and it felt closer to our time than anything else with the over all designs of the show. I think Star Treck would have lived much much longer if B&B hadn't done DS9 and Voyager. The thing that helped drive TNG was the fact that there was a gap between the original and TNG. If they allowed TNG to end with out doing any other spin offs till Enterprise this show would have taken off. Unfortunatly with the mistakes of DS9 and Voyager alot of the mild fans where turned off and when Enterprise came out only the really hard-cor fans took up the remote.
The only thing in Enterprise I would have lived with out was the Temperal Cold War crap. When will people learn that when you use time traveling that much the casual veiwer will get sick of it and find something else to watch.

The one avenue of Trek that I saw that I thought could have been compelling was from a Voyager ep (I think I've stated this before), about a ship from Trek's future called the USS Continuity. It could warp through both space AND time, righting any discrepencies in any rifts of time. There were limitations as to how many times you could leave the temporal shields around the ship, so away teams would have to be chosen carefully.
At any rate, it was the one Voyager ep I was really interested in, because the concept and ship design were so fresh.
And I have to disagree with Jerrel. Time travel as a TV series can be the most compelling of all.
Sam Beckett ring anyone's bell? (Quantum Leap).

My love for Trek alway, and I mean always, stemmed from the 80's movies for some reason. I think I liked that about Trek too. It was in how all the story arcs tied together. From taking back the Enterprise, to Spock's death, his return, facing punishment for what he did he felt he had to, retaking the center seat, just to say cest' la' vie, and finally discovering that one person 'can' make a difference; I obviously took up with Kirk.
I was thrilled to find out that Scott (Old Quantum Leap fan myself) was going to be taking up the center seat for Enterprise. I am, alas, saddened that the Trek has finally gone into a coma since Roddenberry revived it in the late 80's with TNG.
I'm hoping the MMO will let us command Star Ships and do some very interesting scenarioes on the ground and in space. Even aboard our vessels if we're fortunate for it to be that detailed.
But to all things Trek... Picard has always been the one to describe the nature of Trek itself when it comes to time.
"I always thought I'd get a shot at this chair one day," Says Will Riker with an air of finality.
"Perhaps you still will, number one," Picard begins,"I doubt this will be the last ship to carry the name Enterprise."
And I doubt Trek will ever be truly gone as long as we remember it.

Let me clarify myself a little. When you take a shows who's premise is not focused on time travel and then, for one reason or another, throw it in. The casual fan will be turned off. For no other reason than it has a tendacy to become complicated and hard to follow. The brilliance behind Quantum Leap was that it never dealt with the lives of important historical figures (with the exception of the serries finally which was handle brilliantly) and hence allowed us to believe that this could happen. See the best shows are the ones where people can say "Hey I can see this happening," even with sci-fi shows. When you convolute any thing with over complicated plots, for the sake of complication, people turn away from it.X'an Shin wrote:And I have to disagree with Jerrel.
