Guild Wars

I am not talkign about the new MMORPG, I am talking about guild wars in SWG.
I started thinking today about how SWG needs more factions, there should be more opportunities for conflict than the typical Rebel and Imperial stuff we've been rp'ing for years now.
I started thinking more like a developer in regards to this and realized that the developers already encourage this. The PA or guild system in SWG has been overlooked for too long. I really think more guilds should be played as faction of their own. I also think that the guild war tool is the most underrated and by far mostly unused option in the game.
When I play Galaxies, I should be afraid to run in to certain players... all the time. There are some people who should be able to kill me on sight. I really think more people should be using guilds to represent underground factions. Those factions should be at war with each other. People can also use /guildremove when the going gets too tough and rejoin at a later time.
When Coiyonite came to Nocturnus, he started a guild and our guild went to war against MidCo. Everyone could attack each other all the time. As a result a lot of fighting broke out in town, people found themselvs afraid to leave their homes because of the red dots outside and in general it was the most honest time in our town. Enemies could really fight each other at the drop of a hat.
I will never forget the time X'an was in town and Coiyonite knew it, we kept exchanging tells "I can sense your presence X'an, you can't escape!" It was cat and mouse, X'an DID slip out of town too, but the chase was real and very fun. Or the time that Coiyonite trapped Oeree in his house.
Of course this subject to griefers, but I think most people in this community are mature enough to explore this. I'd like to see some discussion on this, some ideas on how we can bring the underworld more to Nocturnus and maybe create small pockets of ongoing fighting. Maybe this post belongs in another forum, I don't know.

Personally I think its a great idea. I've always wished for a criminal faction

I agree, I'd like to see some open war. And possibly some real fear of retribution.

I DID enjoy that bit with Coiy that day, it was a lot of fun.
What I didn't enjoy was getting assraped at the Lost shuttleport every single time I tried to come into town.
I think Guildwars would be great if they were between guilds on completely different planets (so you weren't CONSTANTLY bumping into each other at starports), and if the war wasn't the primary and constant focus of the other guild.
But, I'm shutting up now.

The concept is intriguing and would lend realism to the game. I have to agree with part of X'an's view that it would be better if the guild's were a bit more removed from each other.
So how about we do this:
Inside the Nocturnus city limits all interguild violence is banned. Nocturnus serves as a neutral staging point for piracy and smuggling and my character for one needs it to remain that way.
Now, outside the city limits it's a different story. Anything goes. Blast away like the Corsairs and Nym's gang.
-OR-
If even Lok outside of Nocturnus is still too close for comfort for some of us, we could extend the "safety zone" to the entire planet of Lok. Call it, Nym's Amnesty or something like that. RP-wise Nym takes a cut from all business on Lok so he want's all the outlaw fringers (Rebels included) to feel safe to do business and keep his pockets fat.
The Nocturnus or Lok Neutrality would also give the Casino that mafia era Las Vegas feel of being off limits to violence.
It also adds a bit of thrill when you're on hunt or being hunted..."gotta make it to Noct/Lok before they hit my last few health points" or "...gotta take 'em down before they cross the safety border".
Also:
We could designate certain Safe Zones/buildings around the Galaxy. Preferably a building with multiple floors and exits (??) on the larger planets (Med Centers). On the more remote planets you just have to make do with the small ones...something like that.
Just one safe zone per planet could make this alot of fun without tipping the scales too far either way forthose who can't afford to fight at that moment and for those that want to make that hit no matter what the weather.
That's my rough thought on it, so far.

I dunno...I think every few months this idea comes up and every few months it gets torpedoed. IF we had two sizeable guilds who were willing to come to terms on some kind of "engagement rules" and were somehow able to make every member aware of and adherant to those rules, then fantastic!
However, I just don't see how plausible it is. Personally? I would love the idea of just firing off a few rounds at a rival guild member. However, I am kind of a sissy and i like my items in the non broken form. Ergo, I have absolutely ZERO desire to get db'd when I engage in rp combat. Hence, I would probably not be participating in a lot of the guild war aspects.
A no DB rule would solve the problem, however it would kill ALL the fun out of it for most people. What's the point of capping a rival guildie and then waiting 15-30 seconds when the get right back up? Lame.
But for that reason, I could see a lot of people turning down the invitation to guild war. Or maybe just me.

Unless the losing side paid you more, and we all die with the rest of the losers.

Plan B, eh? My guess is it involves a jet pack and a very "special" helmet.
Am I warm?

More like we take there money anyways and let them all die because it is impending that they will die so we disapear. Or we can always just fire at the enemy from space is a barrage from Turbolaser fire. Genoscide of the aposing guild. .

Mmm...interesting, yet not. I would rather we keep to the mechanics actually IN game. Back on track...
What guilds did you have in mind Jabe? I like Keer's idea of neutral territories, but I think an entire planet may be a bit much. The idea of maybe a city or specific buildings within one sounds promising...but what about participants?
Are you thinking of an all out "all against all" guild conflict, or more specific One on One?

Well if you do not want to fight in your guildwar why not have some sort of list of people who the guilds exchange of who not to attack and have some sort of agreement to where the other faction has to compinsate for going against the agreement.

Maybe we could get a list of guilds that we could use for this. At least then we could judge the interest and get the possible RP set up for the war started.
