Now that most people have seen EP3, how do you rank them all

Post Reply
meaning, now that you have seen all six episodes, how do you rank them as your favorites?

rank them 1-6...
1 being the best, or most favorite
6 being the worst or least favorite

Since they are titled with the ranking numerals as well, I'll just list them in Best To Worst order:

Empire Strikes Back
A New Hope

Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi
Attack of the Clones
Phantom Menace

I've got to go with Keer on this one..
That is exactly the lineup I'd use.

Very hard to rank. It's all Star Wars and I love them all. Empire Strikes Back is my favorite of the originals. I think that The Phantom Menace is still my favorite out of the prequels. (No, I don't have any good reasons...I just really like it.)

As for ranking them ALL, I don't think I can do that. The originals for me are in an entirely different league than the prequels. I don't think you can really get and appreciate the prequels without the original series, but at the same time...I dunno, they're still Star Wars but it's a different kind of Star Wars. It doesn't stand on its own...while A New Hope could. ESB and Jedi rely on ANH but also very neatly sum up the story.

I dunno, I just can't pick favorites out of all of them together. They just seem too seperate to me. As for my kids...they're totally seeing the originals first. The prequels are made as backstory. They don't really lead in to the originals, they explain.

I started typing and realized my list was ending up to be exactly the same as Keer's. One thing I like about Sith is that the scenery really gives you the look and feel of what it means to exist in the Star Wars universe. I don't know about anyone else but I think that Sith just covers its better than the other movies. Maybe because so much of it wraps around Coruscant, I am not sure.

Well, my list is different than most everyone's here...

I was born after the first two movies were released, so my age is probably what I attribute the differences to. It's most likely the reason I don't like ESB as much as a lot of people. There was no shock in seeing it...by the time I saw Jedi, EVERYONE knew Vader was Luke's father...there was no shock, no surprise...it didn't hold the thrill for me like it did for the thousands of kids who saw it in the theater for the first time in 1980. That had to have been a real shot to the brain for them. But to me it was just old news...so here goes.

Return of the Jedi
A New Hope
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith
Empire Strikes Back
The Phantom Menace

That is not to say that ANY of them are not "good" movies...it's just I liked em more in that order.

I do agree with Dwi that it is hard to compare the original trilogy with the new one...they ARE in a different language. Lucas had different set of tools at his disposal for the new ones and they make a difference in the way his stories are told.

Had he been able to use todays technology with the original three (not just re-doing a scene here and there or making greedo shoot first, I mean the whole thing)...man oh man.

From best to worst for me it went:

1) Episode 4: A New Hope (This one really could've been the only one ever made for me and still left you enough room to feel there would be resolution to the era; much as it had hinted at beginning.)

2) Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back. "I'm your father!" when it really was a surprise. :)

3) Episode 3: The Revenge of the Sith. Only reason I knocked this one down a few from my favorite was because there were simply too many things not in the movie and some things looked to be just thrown in as if to just shrug at, "And, ok, this happened too.."

4) Episode 6: The Return of the Jedi. Ewoks? I still can't fathom it. Shoot a teddy bear today and do the galaxy a favor!

5) Episode 2: The Clone Wars. Plenty of wow... too much cheese in between.

6) Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. I think he'd done better to show Palpatine's rise to power as a Sith Lord than this one... or at least more Darth Maul. Too much of this movie was just plain crap. Took away from a lot of the mystacism that was the mysterious Force too. It was like... huh? Awww, man, that kinda sucks.

Though i'm basicaly with Dwilah on this one and find, that the movies are hard to rank, i'll try it nonetheless:

Return of the Jedi
Phantom Menace
Revenge of the Sith
A new Hope
Empire strikes back
Attack of the Clones

But i still love to watch every one of them ;)

Now Lucasfilm needs to do the 6 movie marathon at theaters!

1) A New Hope--It started it all. It is easily a stand alone movie and it was told in the classical epic fassion. This movie single handedly took sci-fi from the B-movie realm and gave it legitamance.

2) Empire Strikes Back--The surprise value and the character development make this number 2 for me. The character developments that you wanted to see in ANH but there wasn't time for really filled the only thing I felt was lacking from ANH.

Why not #1?
No big space battle and no big planet destrotying galaxy menace to blow up.

3)Return of the Jedi--Good triumphing over evil, the fallen knight finding redemtion and overcoming overwhelming force coupleing with the classical epic stroy telling make this number 3 but a very close 3 to ESB.

Why not #2?
Ewoks

4)Revenge of the Sith--This is the only movie I will ever consider to be a prequell. It adresses the questions raised in the original trillogy the epic feel of the battles and good trying to over come evil but beeing beten back put this one right after my love for the originals.

Why not #3?
I feel Lucas at one point said "Oh yeah I need to tell this, this, and this," and threw every thing that was explained that he felt had to be adressed in. It felt as though he threw alot of things in there that he could have done in the first 2 movies but was too busy throwing stuff in those to sell toys to the masses.

5)Attack of the Clones--The kick ass Yoda fight. Thats it. Nothing else in this one interested me. The plot was forced and was simply horrible.

6)The Phantom Menace--Jar Jar, pod racing and the idea that a ship would have a landing area with easy access to the engine just made this movie horrible. Its only redeaming quality was the cool fight scene between Quigon, Obi-wan, and Darth Maul made this watchable.
