Ok, this is not meant to be insulted to anyone so please don't get your undergarments in a bunch.
That being said...me and several friends have been attending this event for some time...its supposed to be shady criminal activity, thugs and bruisers...criminals...
yet i feel like i'm at "Tea with Aunt Margaret"
Everyone is just as sweet and polite as they are in any other rp event. The supposed tough guys sit around talking of spice and evil deeds but the second you go to interact with them its "oh hello there friend, allow me to buy you a drink"
where are the guys who would soon spit at you as look at you? Where are the cutthroats? Or is everyone too busy being a sophisticated criminal mastermind that being a thug is below them? lol
something has to give, frankly i feel this event has lost much of its edge because its just become another social event, there's no villainy and the scum is wearing a neat bow-tie and saying "Howdy"
Fonzie is more intimidating than these guys....hell Carrot Top is more intimidating than these guys lol.
I don't mean any offense to any individuals but just a plea...gimme some bad crowds, give me someone who is itching to knock someone's teeth out for looking at them the wrong way....give me criminals...not a bunch of lex luthors waiting for superman to show up.
I've even made a few attempts to BE the bad guy and i get met with tells saying "what's your problem" and i'm like "its RP....i'm a thug...you know...bad guy" "why you have to be so rude?"
i mean...come on guys...
un-nerf criminal rp
Where's the scum and villainy of S&V?
which corner was that? cause i haven't seen ya in some time Jaminos...
and i gotta know..
your middle name...its Jaminos...isn't it? lol

Sperg and I RPed out a little transaction. Just because we were smiling...
Sperg, those manerisms and quirks, top notch. They do far more than paragraphs of dialog.
If someone is a jerk to me playing scum in character, then they have to understand that I am going to react with hostility in character and deal with the fallout in character.
Nothing against them personally.
If you feel bad, send me a tell OOC asking me if I'm okay with it.

I'd just as soon spit as to look at you (IG that is)..try talking to me sometime..bet you don't get a smile and a handshake.
I rp a very non trusting on the edge smuggler. Only people I relate to in a nice manner are those Im familiar with. If I'm not then you'll get a very cold reception if you introduce yourself out of the blue.
Just to give you hope :P

Well now next time when I get drunk, I will know who to specifically drunkenly bump into. It's nice to know there are some people that will stand up to a fight.
Also, FYI, I'm on the BH terminals all the time now. I would love to get jumped by some RP BHs at one of these events.

I recommend that you keep at it, Alonzo. Help us make it contagious.
I understand where you're coming from. It's just the general tone of the place could use some scumming up. But keep it up. I've seen you trying. By the time I finisished my scene with that Zabrak and got over to you the other week, I think you were AFK. Not sniping at you, but I did wait a couple minutes for you to respond before I left.
As far as Keer Tregga, he'll never be the savage with his tongue hanging out, bellowing. I understand it's not personal, but just on the topic, Keer's less of a gangster and more of a hustler. More Lucky Luciano, less Al Capone.
That is, it's all about smooth business until this hustler can't bend another angle. If things get staticy beyond that, then, yeah, it's time for blaster shots...but still from under the table. ;)

I might be able to arrange that. However I have in law's for the next couple of week so I won't be in game much.toront wrote:Well now next time when I get drunk, I will know who to specifically drunkenly bump into. It's nice to know there are some people that will stand up to a fight.

Well I don't think you'll get too many results with a condescending attitude. You may not intend to be insulting but you're still coming down on people for how they choose to RP. But I'll try not to get my "undergarments" in a bunch and address the issue.
Scum & Villainy isn't what you take from it, its what you put into it. We can't make everyone who goes act like a criminal thus making the tone and feel darker but we can each individually do something about. In the past I have used S&V night to conduct all my criminal business. I've made arms deals there, hired thugs there, hired Smugglers there (I highly recommend Keer, he's the no-fuss-no-muss smuggler) and plotted a few capers there as well.
The idea is to give people a place that has not occupied by Imperials or protected by the Rebels. Its a place where you know you can conduct shady business or maybe hire a criminal or two. Now if I were to go there and get polite "tea time" replies" then I'd probably avoid giving them my business but I won't tell them they are doing it wrong. That's that was Player X wants to RP and who am I to tell them how it's done.
So I suggest listening to Keer and keep at it. You're doing your part so no worries there. The right people will show up at the right time sooner or later.

Yeah, if Scum and Villainy is not scummy and villainous enough.. the scum and villains of the galaxy need to step it up.
However, I would also like to explore how we all can contribute to the atmosphere. So, lets post some suggestions as to how the scummy AND not-so-scummy can add to the scene.

Sperg approached Vreese last night ic and essentially what happened was this:
"You want to make some fast easy credits?" Sperg says.
To which I answered, "That depends, how legal is it?"
Then it turned into the usual, 'This'll be a shady transaction' thing.
To which Vreese naturally goes, "Sorry, I don't deal in unknowns. I'm not the entrepreneuer your looking for I think."
The opportunities are there. And we all have a right to play our characters how we see fit. To say Casino Night, Roba Night, Scum and Villany night is suppose to be 'this' or 'that' way and particular players should not show up is just a bad concept to have.
If we just happen to have a number of non-shady over the shady players... it is all in how we play our characters. In game we've noticed changes in a lot of characters and, no doubt, that isn't over yet.
My only advice is make an effort to go and make what you will out of it really. These events aren't really something you 'fix' so to speak. There something you go immerse yourself in as your character. I can't think of a simpler way to put it.

My suggestion is this.. Have an agenda.
Based on the example Batty cited above, it sounded like this Sperg character had an agenda. Good things happen in RP land when you try to make something happen. Having an Agenda will help that.
If everyone is there just to hang out, that is exactly what will happen.
The overall idea here is that we are in the outer-rim.. a refuge for those who would like to avoid any imperial entanglements. The economy out here runs on crime, smuggling, scavengers, and the occasional legitimate means of earning a living.
As soon as you set foot in Mos Eisley, you need to be aware of where you are. Immerse yourself. Forget about game mechanics. See your character as if in a movie, not as if in a game. Flip on your imagination, imagine the sand crunching under your feet as you walk the streets of Mos Eisley, the warm breeze hitting you in the face as you exit the starport.
Become your character. See the world as they see it. If you are an alien, be an alien. You character may have a different "point of view" than you do. Use it.

This does work for me. For the past year my "Examine" text says almost the same thing.Ekade wrote: See your character as if in a movie, not as if in a game.
Not to parrot, but /agree there too. More than *anything* anything in the game for me, RP or combat, this character motivation theory is the most fun. "What would my 'Crook From Another World' do in this situation?"Ekade wrote:Become your character. See the world as they see it. If you are an alien, be an alien. And watch Dwilah. Not to copy her style, but...she's like...GOOD at that very thing.

I have missed the last couple of these due to my work schedule being really ...well crappy.
IG I have been more grumpy and edgy lately. Space work is taking it's toll and I tend to not like random strangers. You want to talk to me? Better be a damn good reason and good money involved. Otherwise...you get the butt end of my rifle in your cheeckbone for bothering me.
Well...cept pretties, and furries. I'm a pushover for a pretty lady of any species. Might be the death of me someday...........
