Tonight at the Roba

Just an explanation of the events that took place tonight:

I decided, to encourage some of that spontaneous RP pvp I've mentioned, I got some of my fellow Imperial TTF members to go Special Forces. We got what we asked for as a 6 man group (2 known Jedi) showing up to cause trouble. It started out very RP and we had a conversation before breaking into fights. We had 4 people, myself the only Jedi, so I called one friend only to help out.

The five of us took them down with ease. A few members of TTF began to go back to combatant or back to the party when the guys we killed went back overt and came back. This time they brought even more friends. I believe we killed some of them before even more numbers poured into the city and our force was beaten. By this time, word had broke out that there was a huge pvp going on in Dohrian, and non-RPers began to flood in.

Our regrouped Imperial force flew into town and everyone was inside the cantina. We had the superior numbers now, so I figured flushing them out would be difficult, so I used the cantina ban (seeing as how we'd already killed them legit once already). I apologize to all that I banned and got stuck in the same spot outside the Roba. I had no idea this bug existed and feel horrible how things went down. Trust me when I say We didn't have 20+ Imperials show up just to slaughter you on the steps, we were looking forward to the fight.

This has also caused me to realize that being overt/special forces at the Roba seems to attract the wrong crowd and incite Jedi wars in our little city of Dohrian. I realize this is not what people seek at the Roba, so I don't expect to tell a large group to go overt again. We'll just abide by the "you must accept /duels in a RP context" and follow that.

Consider this to be a little PvP blip in the somewhat less-action packed Robas we've been seeing this past little while. Things should return to their (mostly) calm ways next week. To those involved, aside from the bugged slaughter at the end (I'm still sorry), I hope you had fun!

I got there late, and all I know is people were pissed about "griefing" and such and such, and I kept hearing ppl say,"figures it would be TTF" and "let's move this somewhere else next week"

seems every time I go back there people show up to be pompous assholes and declare that the Roba be closed due to such and such imperial/rebel code............lame with extra lame sauce

God forbid you take the time to read my explanation and apology. The "griefing" you speak of was an accident. As for people's opinion of TTF, if it is anyone in MCI right now, I would say it's fairly biased (long story). Anyone else, and I can't really understand us having a reputation over one incident which was in fact an accident.

I know a few people were telling me with concerns over how it went down, but the fact of the matter is we killed the first group, and we killed most the second time until more and more flooded in. When people are coming back to life three times within 20mins and fully functioning for combat, it begins to leave the realm of RP. If a few RPers want to call all their hardcore pvp buddies that have never held an interest in the Roba before to come stand up for them after they already got beat in a fair fight, then the rules change

We decided to show our colours in our town, at our place. There was no "pompousness" on our behalf other than being Special Forces. Unless you refer to the MCI/FW stuff that went on while our force Imperial force was regrouping. I heard a little about it, but wasn't there for it.

Again, I realize this isn't what the Roba is meant to be, so I don't see us rolling SF at the next one. It seems more like a Scum & Villainy type arrangement if anything.

God forbid you take the time to read my post. I said I got there late and missed the whole thing, and was just going by what I heard or people told me. I have heard the stories between MCI and TTF and have a fair idea what is going on, but sa I have stated before, I am not involved in this situation.

I was just trying to enlighten you to how your group is being perceived, apologies or none. As you can see, only Jabe and I have replied to your thread, and nobody from the participants involved, so I'd say your apologies to them mean little, if anything.

As far as your reputation, it is from many things and events your group has done, and it is how you are perceived, whether it is true or not. whether you like it or not.

I'm just bringing this info to light. Don't shoot the messenger

I got there late also...and heard a statement being spammed about the cantina being condemned, and some worry among my people about possibly being banned. Both had me worried.

Iago got the tale and explained it to us afterward. Toront's explanation jibes with what Iago told us. I see no problem with continuing Roba nite the way it normally goes...tho the next couple of weeks may be a little odd.

Betcha Jedi Nite at the Roba will be remembered, in the not too distant future, as a memorable one with tales to be told to newbies.

And the band played on....

Ok not being there an all I cann't really comment on the event itself and the exact details of this night but I've noticed that the Roba is probably the one most miss-understood events that is promoted here. I use the term miss-understood to convay the fact that fellow players are at times unsure what to expect when they show up while others have idea's of what is proper and what is not proper edicit for the event. This is mostly due to the under representation of the TTF on these forums and while yes we have Toront (realitivly new to the forum, but with power in the TTF), Alonzo (long time member of Tales but without as much power now), and myself (long time member with no power in the TTF but a member) here to represent, for the most part those who post about the event are not 100% certain what is and isn't allowed. So I suggest that when posting the weekly events Tales also post the rules in a fasion similar to the following.

The Crazy Roba
DATE: Fri May 27, 2005 8:30pm CST
HOST: TTF (Talus Trade Federation)
LOCATION: The Crazy Roba Dohrina, Talus
GAME ELEMENTS: RP, PvP GCW, PvP Dueling
FACTION CONTROL: Imperial

A cantina party feturing live entertainment and the classic social venue.

*Note: Faction control simply implies which faction has athority to alter events on the level of say shutting down the cantina or arresting players who cause trobble.

/sigh...I'm asking for it for posting here, aren't I?

-If you have been to the Roba more than one week in a row in the last 6 months, I'm glad to read your comments, here. If you have been an infrequent visitor, I don't believe it's fair to say that you know the regular state of the Roba, and/or the treatment of it's patrons.

-I have made it to 99% of the Roba parties since it's inception. My opinion of TTF is that they have little to do with the going's on of the party. Occasionally they will enforce the rules, but more often than that, they are background and simply performing the job of a security team of less than 5.

-I would like to hear more from the regulars that attend....that aren't TTF or Kreetles. (Jabe is a good example, IMO)

-I don't color my opinion of a group based on another group's feelings about them. 2nd hand opinions are meaningless and unfair.

-TTF has a rep, I will agree...I'm fairly certain it developed outside of Roba Nites.

-The participants involved in the scuffle are mostly TTF and players that do not frequent swgtales.

-Skor, buddy, I appologize that you've had the bad luck of showing up only on the nights that someone shows up to close the Roba for some imperial code. I've only witnessed this occuring twice...since Roba Nights started. You have some horrid luck, my friend. :)

-I've long been an opponent to overt groups at a party... I think an experiment on it was needed, but I'll agree that it should be avoided.

-In relation to the rebels returning quickly with reinforcements: Everything that game mechanics allow for should be accepted as legal RP. If I can clone in 30seconds or in 3 hours....it's still accepted by the game designers, and therefore legal. I know SOE isn't famous for it's logic, but some people accept cloning in under 20 seconds as feasible, and I will defer to SOE's decision on it.

-I appreciate the direct appology, Toront. I believe you when you say the events weren't directly under your control, but I'm glad someone from TTF had standards to accept blame for the group and step up.

That's what I've got, for now, guys. I intend to bring this before the Kreeltes membership and let democracy decide what happens with the band. We'll know the result of that Wednesday after our meeting/practice.

It's been of no small regret to me that my current play schedule hasn't allowed for Keer to attend Fridays at the Crazy Roba since October 2004. Despite this, I still feel a strong connection to the place and event. It was the absolute first time in my Role Play experience where/when I felt immersed via Role Play.

The Roba that I remember was the acme of sophistication. Though this period was over a year ago in the spring of 2004, this state of being had a good strong run.

My question is "What happenned?". What happenned and how can the "happennings" be eradicated to make it what it used to be?

If the Roba changed overnight, I still probably wouldn't be able to attend. But it would be a great feeling to know that it was the consistent source of "cool" that I remember.
