Yes, I hate coming up with subjects. At anyrate, after reading the post on the big Skara Brae event, thought I'd post my thoughts on it here.

One, I'm pissed cause I missed it. I read of all these folks showing up in uniform, the at-at, and I missed it. I could cry. Really wish I could've been there, even though my lag would've put everyone else's to shame I'm sure.

Two, seems the biggest problem with events this large, as with seemingly all big battles is the server crashing/lag. These instances seem to increase greatly on the more populated planets, such as Naboo and Corellia. Mayhaps for future large scale battles, they should be conducted on some of the more less populated/visted planets. There's no garuante (spell checks are for those who have patience to look up their mistakes.) that the servers won't crash or lag out, but It should be a lot better than in the case of a heavily loaded planet like Naboo.

Perhaps the larger scale events would be better suited to planets such as Talus and Rori. Talus has a small population in comparison to the other planets, and Rori is virtually uninhabited.

At anyrate, that's my half cent. (I'm cheap)

I dunno about the rest of you, but I get some of the worst lag in the non-player cities on Rori and a good amount on Talus too (neither are as bad as Coro, of course). I agree that large-scale events should be in the less populated areas, which is why Skara Brae was probably a good choice. With as many people as were there I don't think any one location would have handled it well, remote planet or not.

So at what point does newer technology in processors, video cards and high-speed connections help control the lag in this game? Not soon enough, I fear.

The truth of it is, the game cannot handle an event that big.

Big Battle scenarios are great in concept, but they don't work. I left because of the lag. I was standing there.. and a few seconds later I was dead. The lag was so bad I did not even get to see that my attacker engaged me. It was POOF, you're dead.

I think a good number is maybe 50-100. You can still get that "big battle" feel.. and actually be able to fight it.

I dont think any game's server can handle that many people. I remember invading Occlo on UO with my undead legions of around 200...and the opposing army had around 200 also. We had the server giving us like 50% and worse packet loss. I could see everything going on...but couldnt move. Thank god I had a public temple 5 screens away and a full runebook :???:

I always hear about epic events in EQ, so I'm sure that there are game servers out there that can handle it. It's just a matter of knowing which ones can, and how many the SWG ones can handle for events.

There was a sick amount of lag for the event. I was getting between 6-10 seconds of delay on spatial. My ping was over 300 (haven't seen that since the old CS on AOL days), and my FPS dropped as low as 2.

Skara Brae may not have been a good choice because it was still on Naboo. From what I understand, each of the planets is on different servers, so something empty (like Yavin) would be the ideal location.

Yes, I suggested that they do something like this, but on 3 seperate planets.

This would bring in a strategic element to the event.

I like the idea for the 3 pronged event. It brings that whole ROTJ feel to it.

Eh, I would've mentioned yavin, but with all the jedi camping the geo cave, figured they'd cause enough lag for everyone. (That, and I hate jedi)

Actually, chapter 2 may be a multiple planet event...

Yes, your hate for Jedi is legendary. You only torture yourself by walking around overt unbuffed.

Yeah, I remember you grinding rifleman ever so slowly while my pistoleer/Expert BH was ripping through things left and right. I had a pic of you incapped for the billionth time that I can't find anymore (proof that my machine is eating screenshots).

The guild was actually going to start an archive of the many incaps of me at one point. But I never got around to taking the pics, they never made the site, and the guy who suggested it left. Out of spite, i started taking incap pics of him.
