Random RP--it does happen.

I had intended to bar hop tonight, but only made it to the Roba before going AFK. As I was on my way back home (I thought myself too distracted to RP), I found a guy at Nym's starport with like 2k wounds and max BF. It'd take a million years to heal him. I started in on it.

Often times I RP-heal random, non-RP-marked players at starports. It gets me good tips, and tonight it got me a pleasant surprise. Someone with a Novice Doctor tag stopped to watch me, and I asked her "Doctor, would you care to assist me healing this man? He's badly wounded."

She didn't respond right away, and at first her replies were one-word, unpunctuated yes' and no's (blast, I can't remember the right punctuation for pluralizing words, it's driving me nuts but I'm too lazy to look it up). However, I kept emoting the hell out of RPing that this guy was wounded to all fuck and back, had huge blaster wounds, a punctuation wound [EDIT: lol....typo that I'm leaving in, but it was supposed to be puncture wounds], and prompted her by asking her to check for concussion and telling her where there were "supplies" (on an imaginary tray nearby).

Pretty soon, those one-word replies had developed into, "There's a chunk of armor dangerously close to his heart..." Fully punctuated, capitolized, ahhh... I was thrilled.

The guy came back from AFKness halfway through (noticeable by the quick twitch of body change, then went still again) but stayed quiet while we healed him. Then he tipped us both (very well) for our services and told us he'd been in three shipwrecks and freaking RPed the reason why he'd been wounded so badly!!!

Then it was business as usual and they departed quickly...but the whole experience was pretty cathartic and heartening. I just wanted to share, since I've heard people complain about there being no RP lately.

Love those experiences. Just one of those is worth several ignorant and negative reactions to random RP'ing with strangers.

I always love hearing that kind of a story. Especially when medics are concerned. About the only thing I remember from my medical days are no tips and no responses to RPing--at least nothing that didn't involve someone shouting "PLZ HEEL MY WNDS!" when they maybe had 20 action wounds and that was all...not that I'm still bitter or anything.

hmmm

I need to make the effort to stay in character more.

The worst is trying to stay in character while hunting jedi...
Do you know how elite they are?
I find it easiest to stay in character when they are fleeing... Showing things like "You can run, but you cant hide." And... "There's no escape for you youngling!"

Yeah, I was in the village last week RP'ing with Dariis. Someone walks up and says, "Wow.. people really talk like that?" Sometimes immersion is a struggle. :D

Then again, I was griefed by "comedians" at my first wedding, so I am almost completely numb to hecklers at this point.
