as most of you might have figured out by now, there is no such thing as a tank anymore with the CU, with the way an enemy reacts...
in a group, an enemy goes after whoever is doing it the most damage, OR whoever's healing counteracts it's own damage the most...
so this means, generally, a npc/creature will ALWAYS go after the ranged shooters or the healers, thus running right by the tanks (melee profs) and head straight for the ranged guys or healers
the tanks have no way to stop this other than a KD, but you can only KD a npc/creature about once a minute now, and it only lasts 2 seconds...so after they get up, they're running right for the gunners/healers again...
anyone think this type of aggro is extremely stupid, and makes grouping tanks/gunners pointless???
I haven't been in a group yet where they weren't going for me or another gunner...I have yet to see a npc stay on a tank, unless they already did 90% of the dmg to it...
With the CU enemy's aggro, is there even a need for tanks?
Heh heh,
Good point, Skor. Now, with Batty I just say screw it and rush in and do a butt stroke to the head series on my enemies! "Charge!!!" They call me crazy... but as long as I play my ranged profession as a melee profession it seems to counter-balance this little flaw and they even sometimes leave the healers alone. Go figure.

Well I'm not sure about all the tank professions but don't some have specials that do draw aggro? I know in the Jedi Defender Skill tree there is a Dominate Mind skill that is suppose to draw aggro even if they're not doing the most damage.

They have said in one of those Fan Fest threads that they'll be reducing the amount of hate healers draw in the future. /shrug

All tank professions now have "taunt" at novice brawler that is area of effect that makes all the aggro NPC's aggro on them.

I can vouche for Taunt working. Been using it a little with Vreese and it generally works like a charm. Alternatively... ::chuckles:: when I do a spray shot with my rifle... I can usually grab the attention off of the healers with Batty. But, to me, it seems like nothing really works except for a couple of seconds at most. ::shrugs:: I'm sure their working on it.

Well, a good tank would.Skorixor wrote:and what tank wants ALL npc's aggro on himZannon wrote:All tank professions now have "taunt" at novice brawler that is area of effect that makes all the aggro NPC's aggro on them.

Of course, you'd need a good healer keeping the tank alive.
That's how it works in the game the CU hopes to emulate... Tanks take damage, healers heal tanks, every else kills and does crowd control.

It's a sacrifice for the group effort, take one for the team. You save the healers, then the healers rez you. I don't see the problem.Skorixor wrote:and what tank wants ALL npc's aggro on himZannon wrote:All tank professions now have "taunt" at novice brawler that is area of effect that makes all the aggro NPC's aggro on them.

Except tanks can't tank! They always go after the medic or the ranged. In very few cases if the melee profession attacks first and happens to be as high a level as the leader of the party... they 'might' keep it aggroed on them.
As for 'wanting' it... Well, I don't mind it, Skor. I'm an up in their face with my bayonet kinda guy myself. And with Rinna and Iago keeping ya stimmed... heh... I feel like a better tank than the melee professions at times. Take away the healers though... and boy do you miss the melee people.
CU is just quirky right now is the best way to put it. There are a lot of ins and outs. And ultimately in a large 8 person group... it's really all about coordinating fire to pick them off one at a time.

Having to make decisions in combat is a new concept to SWG. You need to decide how to pull, who will tank, what "states" to inflict on the enemy, etc. It looks like they are making so that you need to have certain roles in your party to be successful in the more challenging places. This is a good thing.

Refress my memory but are BH tanks?
Any way I'm a MBH MRM and Pistol 0044 and about less than half the time I would get the agro. It was usually the jedi in the group or the TKM that got it some times it was me.

Here's a pretty cool combo I've found with Taunt that works like a charm. I can do it by myself, but it works best when there's a tank present.
1. NPC's aggro on the healer.
2. Tank does taunt and all the NPC's come running.
3. Smuggler concussion shots them and roots them.
By the time the concussion shots wear off, the healer is done healing and no longer getting aggroed.

Well, according to this little chart (http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.co ... 0Schematic) they are tanks because of damage mitigation.Refress my memory but are BH tanks?

/ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHEW, that's a good one!
that damage mitigation duelist stance) reflects a whopping 25 pts of damage back at the attacker for a very short amount of time, only if you dont get hit while the move "warms up" before engaging
