So here is my by big self important news...
I got engaged last Thursday! Then I sent her to Washington. I figured she could get all the excitement out of her system in a different time zone. Pure genius if you ask me.

Congrats you big wooly!!!
Either way though... you'll have to eventually get the high tide of all of that excitement. Just means you get to experience the built up portion of it when she gets back.

From one married man to a soon-to-be, congratulations and welcome to the club!

believe me the excitement doesn't start until they start planning the wedding. It works sort of like an earthquake. You have a bunch of tremor's and then BOOM!

That's why I was always happy with the wedding my wife and I had. Took two weeks to plan, and we got married in the backyard of my dad's house (a beautiful Victorian-era house). For food we had a potluck, it was great. And most of our friends keep telling us how jealous they are because we had the balls to go for a non-trad wedding.
Oh, and the spot where we made our vows? It's now the shallow end of a pool, heh heh.

Congrats man.
The only thing that really surprised me after I got married was the fact that random women talk to you more when you go out with your friends (and you have the ring on). Still haven't figured that one out.

I figure it's one of two things, Jabe. Either its because, like guys, women like having friends of the opposite sex too and a married man is usually just that... a friend and nothing more. Or, it's because they like the idea of messing with a married man. Well, that's at least two ideas I have among the many possibilities. I'm rather inclined to believe the benevolent version though; we all like having friends and the ring pretty well ensures that, "This guy won't view me as another piece of meat."
Sorry for the slight disrailment there, my wookiee friend, but this seems like one of those factors a newly married guy may have to think about, yes?

I don't know, I'd say this is still on topic--taking sage advice from we already married men. After all, from what I can gather they don't hand out the "Being a Husband for Dummies" booklets anymore, so we may be his only hope of learning the secrets to a happy marriage. :-D

They have a "...for Dummies." book for everything now though. Heh, though, I'm still single myself. Came close to being married to a Russian though. Never fall for the Russian Drinky Girl in Korea is what I learned from my U.S. Army tour of duty there.
I'm guessing, however, since I did wear an engagement ring myself at one point that that first bit of benevolent advice is probably the most likely. Even while I was freshly stateside with the band on... seems more women approached me than after the fact and I went back to being 'single' again.

One of my friends always wore a fake band out when we went drinking at the bars. He got more numbers than you could shake a stick at.

Congrats you big hairy bastard. I'm going to share with you a bit of wisdom that has held true for me for years.
There are only 2 words you need to know as a married man. They are golden and sacred. Know them well. They are....
"Yes Dear"
Repeat that to yourself a few times.
Note: Can also be supplimented for "You're right, Dear" and "It's my fault, I'm sorry." You'll find you will use these most often when you have no clue what she just said.
Congratulations to you and you future <Insert Nationality Here> Wife!
