Did anyone get caught in the midst of the torrential rains that we had last night? I was outside for less than 9 seconds and was soaked through and through (wind almost took me off my feet).

Can anyone tell me what has been with this summer?

Well I just got to work after a very sleepless night.. And am still waiting for Comed to even give me an ETA on when I can expect power since it went out after 10pm last night. Its rediculous, you think they would at least have the problem assessed after 10 hours.

Luckily I was inside when it hit near me but the thunder and lightning kept my daughter up most of the night. Its not that she couldn't sleep, its that she refused to sleep in her bed. It was tiresome but at the same time very very cute. When lightning struck and she darted to Daddy for protection it makes ya feel pretty good. 5 seconds later you're screaming in your head "GO.... TO.... SLEEEEEP!"

I had to go outside because I couldn't remember whether or not I let my windows up before I got out of the car. I stood there and debated a while, since if I didn't, the car would already be soaked, but I went out and checked anyway.

Fortunately ours slept right through the storm. She's taking after her Dad's more disturbing traits, like sweating through her clothes for no good reason and sleeping through bad storms (I once slept through a tornado as it literally jumped my house and threw a board through my bedroom wall).

I'm thinking of getting one here soon, it beats the hell out of verizon's phone service...

I'm wondering how much bandwidth it really eats, how the calls sound, and if you really think it is worth it.. Heh I can let you sign me up for that bonus thing.. don't you get a month free or some money or something I haven't checked the site in a while...

My oldest daughter slept right through it. The little one did not care for the thunder one bit. She was happy as a clam when I was holding her... the second I put her down to go grab a drink of water... she made that little sad face that said "don't leave me.. I'm gonna cry."

Did you guys feel that earthquake we had a few weeks back? That freaked me out.

Bah, I have a gas generated engine keeping my refridgerator turned on so our food sdoesn't spoil... Now I am 17+ hours no electricity, I'll trade ya problems.

Vonage rocks the world. They just upgraded so you can 7 digit dial (used to ahve to 11 digit dial) and its pretty much seemless phone service for free. I got the 14.99 plan and I am really pleased with it. I can play SWG and talk on the phone no problem. Sometimes I will get a slight echo on the line if I am hogging bandwidth by downloading something enormous on the PC, but other than that its fine. I have saved absolutely loads of money on this phone service.

My only concerns with Vonage right now:

A) If your power or Internet goes out, no phone service. I have circumvented this by putting my cable modem and vonage box on a UPS, but my cable tends to go out with the power anyway. You can specify a cell phone number to forward all calls when you are not connected though. For example, since my power is still out you will ring right through to my wife's cell phone.

B) My caller ID number shows, but the name comes up as "Illinois Call" when I call people (they are working on this).

C) 911 is forwarded to your local PSAP, which is a local emergency line but IS NOT the true 911 line for your area and does not have 911 trained operators. (this is a big one I hope they hash out soon).

Other than that, I have a dial tone for 14.99 a month, with voiemail I can retrieve off the web or with email. All the feaures you can think of for no extra charge. And I can take my vonage box with me and plug it in to any broadband connection on the planet and boom my home phone number is good to go. Its a beautiful thing. Depsite all the FUD out there, my Tivo and all other analog devices are dialing their data connections fine. Albeit I did change some settings to get my Tivo updates working.

Kick Ass!! Yeha I knew about all the featurees just wanted an opinion from a Vonage user ;) I must say Im on all the same levels with those problems... Hopefully they get all of them worked out...

How the heck did ya upgrade to the 7 digit dial? I wish I knew that was an option.

I was wondering if had choppyness and noise on the other end of your phone calls, Coiy. I get perfect clarity on this end, but people are complaining on the other end. Ya think this might clear up if I wire it between my modem and router?

I can't recommend it yet though, because I just got my phone number transfered yesterday, and then my connection went out for 16 hours. I've got no experience to recommend with, but you definately can't beat the price.

You shoudl have it by default, if not start a ticket. Right now I have my fariwall configured to pass through to the Vonage box but I am gonna put it beofre my firewall soon vecause I hear that the motorola box will throttle your bandwidth for you so you get better service.
