Ok, so, I've had this odd little thing happen. Apparently the 'outlets' where my keyboard and mouse plug in went out on me. So, I've had to go out and buy a 5-port PCI USB Card so I can have my mouse, keyboard, 'and' joystick opporational since I only have 2 USB ports on my motherboard. And I can only use 4 of the 5 on the Card since one of them is 'internal'. Blah!

Anyone else ever have this problem with a motherboard? Should I be thinking... new motherboard when the keyboard/mouse outlets go out but everything else 'seems' fine?

As a tech, I can tell you that I've seen a lots of motherboards in different conditions. It's not as common, but sometimes the "ports" do go bad. One point if I may.'

1. I would look at buying a new motherboard/memory and salvage the processor/heatsink off of the board if possible. In most PC's the PCI bus is pretty full as it is adding another card to it will only slow the system down and may cause performance issues.

Have you tried replacing the keyboard/mouse with known good components first? It's possible that the connectors could be worn(although not likely--this is always the first step).
