If George Lucas were directly involved in SWG development...

Sometimes I wonder what things would be like if Lucas went and worked 40 hours a week over at SOE. :)

Some better, some worse.

He's already stated in many interviews that he doesnt care what the fans think, he'll create things the way he wants to.

I think were Lucas involved it at least be more in line with cannon and the Jedi profession would be more inline with his vision of what Jedi were suppose to be. And if there were Jedi we'd probably be in a more accurate timeline which would also make more people happy.

I have to respect the fact that he does what he wants and doesn't cater to the fans' every wish. Part of the draw of the SW films is that they leave you wanting more. You get little bits of a much bigger universe and it leaves your imagination to fill in the rest.

I think some aspects of the game would suffer because of this, but, overall, it would be better...because I think he'd have a much keener eye on the continuity of the films within the game.

Some better, some worse. We'd get a much richer SW universe to work with, more content I bet, more canon, more continuity...but also, despite things, I do have faith in our devs and I bet there's things about game development that they would do better than a director. I would opt for one-week-a-month collaboration. :D

Yeah, but we would have to wait like, 23 years between patches. That ain't cool.

It would be better.

Reason 1: This isn't the prequels (with the exception of RotS I hate them) and he would keep it as close to the movies as possible while leting people play roles they want, with the exception of the uber jedi that spits in every imperials face and has no fear of the Empire putting their boot to his or her throat.

Reason 2: Regardless of what his pr people say or what he says in an interview when ever critizm come up, the man knows how to market. Why else did he create Ewoks? He was pandering to the kiddies with that creation, and, in a Lucas lead SWG, he would pander to the target audience. Namely the millions of fans who would pic it up to live in the world of episodes 4-6.

If the movies themselves are anything to go by... some would be better and some worse. George didn't directly 'direct' the first three like he did on the current three. So his vision when put in the hands of others seems to play out better.

However... with Episode three we really saw what some of it was all about and the Lucas WoW button and this is 'my' story feel 'is' what the game lacks in places. Uniqueness for our characters while catering to a massive gamming community.

Indeed, I think the only thing that 'does' allow us to 'be' heroes of the game are forum communities like this one that allow us to RP out our 'own' Luke Skywalkers and Princess Leias as it were. Otherwise were left with... Yeah, I just got through doing that mission too. Which quest reward did you get?

So, perhaps, Lucas would put in a little 'unique' Character exclusive things and arcs that make it feel more like a movie to the individual player. He never was one to go with the status qou of, "Let's model it after every other cookie cutter mmo." Even though that feels largely what the devs wound up doing in large chunks now.

didn't ahve time to read every post as i'm writing this as i leave the house, but in case it wasn't already said...

The game would NOT be better for canon, we know it SHOULD...but

SOE wanted to nerf the hell out of jedi..they wanted to almost remove them, and at one point they actually wanted a separate jedi server.

Lucas Arts: Fired 2 devs, vetoed 4 proposals on jedi revamp, and told SOE jedi should be 50% of the focus, all other content fighting over the remaining 50% as a whole.

They know one thing: Lightsabers = $$$

Lucas directed ANH, only RotJ and ESB were directed by other people.

I think it would be better.

The game could use more cinematic elements.

I would love to see landing in the stations, starports and shuttles rather than *poof* your are there.

Eventually you would get tired of them and just want to be delivered to your destination as fast as possible.

I recall playing single player games with "transition scenes".. ultimately you find yourself presssing "Esc" to skip the scene.

The key there is single player games, how hard are you trying to immerse yourself in a single player game? I think it would make for an excellent tool. And then if you're not into it "Esc" makes everyone happy.

And after reconsidering my vote, I think it would really depend on what you wanted out of this game originally. George Lucas might make it more Cannon and more Cinematic but if you don't like that sort of thing then it would be a waste for you.

I hardly ever get tired of flying on a griffon in WoW and if I do, it's a good time for a break. The boat trips are fun too and they were removed, then put back.

Walk up the transport ramp and take a seat. Then the ramp closes and you watch the ground fall away and the sky fade to black as you talk to the person next to you.

That's more of what I'm thinking. Not a movie that gets played over and over.

SWG is treated like some wargame with some RP thrown in. Here is the world, here are the combat rules, here is some stuff to kill, ... Oh, here are some NPCs to talk to. Out of the 1000s of NPCs, how many actually relay anything about the epic story that is going on around the players?
