"His Computer's Off...

....Luke you switched off your computer. Are you alright?"

"No, I'm not. Artoo's got a virus!"

This has not been a good week for me, friends. My computer and car have gone down for maintenance at the same time. $700 later, my car is good to go. The computer issue was more insidious.

Over the last ten days, little things were going funny with my computer. Then all of a sudden I couldn't access the internet. So I wasted a couple days searching with BellSouth thinking that it might be them (it's happenned before). But this time it was on my end. Then I started seeing bits and pieces of my info have been deleted and I've been locked out of some applications...it's been ooogly. Damn virus ran past my safeguards like Robert Horry to the hoop against the Pistons.

On top of the fact that it was sneaky. If I'd known, I could have straightened it out by now, but I burned a whole week on the wrong trail and ripping the other half of my scalp out because of my car.

So, sorry to anyone that I had things planned for and with in-game. There are a few of you and I had time off set aside specifically for it. Down the tubes. I am pissed off just as much for the inconvenience, the hit to the wallet and possibly another hit to come.

I hope to have all of this fixed by Tuesday latest.

See y'all soon.

If it makes you feel any better (and apologies if this sounds like one-upmanship), my wife and I recently have had to buy/fix the following:

1). New mattresses (old ones were 10 years old and saggy): $1080
2). Broken water heater and shutoff valve (at 10 at night!): $1100
3). My car's finally gotten tired and shaky: $1100

All this in the past 3 weeks. And I'm going to buy a new computer tomorrow because this one is about dead.

I feel your pain bud :)

HA!!! Dude, you're evil.

Xan, if it's time to start lookin for a new car (and you're not going bigger than midsize) go look at Toyota Prius. Jul and I are very happy with ours so far, and with your commute 55 MPG will hurt a lot less when gas hits $3.

Prius, Shmius I say...it's all good if you don't mind walking to work for 6 months while your name on the list comes up.

X'an, you are gainfully employed...get an SUV. Like an Escalade. 13 miles a gallon on the highway, sure...but you'll be doin' it in style.

Nelly has an Escalade...why shouldn't X'an?

why in the world did it cost you $1100 for a water heater and shuttoff? same thing happened to me one night after midnight, my dad and I replaced the water heater, and created our own emergency shuttoffs for less than $200.
And usually I do my own car stuff... I actually have been trying to track down a CJ5-7 because I like them, and it's easier to work on. Also I know something is going to be wearing out/breaking on it all the time, but I would rather it be a $5 part than a computer problem or $500 part. computers in cars just makes it harder for Joe civilian to repair.
and new matress? Geeze... dont you get yours for free like everyone else, they are along the street waiting all the time... :)

My guess would be while some of us (i.e. myself) are very good at fixing sensitive electronics (i.e. computers), when it comes to larger things (i.e. cars and stuff like water heaters), we don't know the first thing of what we're doing, and would rather pay more money to the professional at the start to do the job right than try and do the job ourselves and make things ten times worse. :P

Exactly, it's like the same reason why people pay me to do their taxes instead of doing it themselves.
