RP Aid Question
Some of you know that I have a serries of posts titled RP Aid in which I post information from the Wizards of the Cost's Star Wars Roleplaying Games books which I think will help my fellow roleplayers with character developments and background info. The first set of post, the species names and background info was well resived and the other RP Aids have had varrieing degrees of interest. What I would like to know is what you, my fellow players, think would be better for me to focus on and why. I would like to know this so I can avoid things that people do not care for and get stuff that is wanted out there.

I voted Rebellion. Why?
Put aside the fact the the Rebellion is trying to remove the Empire (and yes thats a good thing).
I dare any single person here, to tell me (and back up with reference) what the Rebellion stands for. My character has been equally skeptical of the Rebellion because of the idea that a) its another old republic doomed to fall or b) its another Empire with a different set of 'nicer' people.
I haven't figured out what the Rebellion's political views are in all this time. Or how they they believe the galaxy is better without the Empire (other than the obvious, hey they're slaving etc..). How will the Rebellion run things? Will they bring back the senate? What will they do to keep everything form going straight to hell again?
People can say the Empire is bad, but how is the Rebellion good? Our server is dominated by Rebels and I don't think a single one of them has any idea what they're fighting for other than to end the Empire.
Why should I fight and maybe die for the Rebellion when I hardly know who or what I am putting in to power?

Ooo! I know this one!I voted Rebellion. Why?
Put aside the fact the the Rebellion is trying to remove the Empire (and yes thats a good thing).
I dare any single person here, to tell me (and back up with reference) what the Rebellion stands for.
The Rebellion was created a few years after the Empire was formed when various smaller resistance groups (the primary three led by Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and Garm Bel Iblis (whom people can meet in Coronet, by the bye)) met for a discussion on what should be done to speak out against the tyranny of the Empire in the now infamous Corellian Treaty.
It was from here that these leaders of the Old Republic sought to fight the Empire in order to restore the Old Republic's democratic values to the galaxy. From this treaty, each leader was able to govern his/her area of space as they saw fit, but they would each help the other members of the alliance to combat the Empire in anyway needed, and to uphold the democratic values of the Old Republic at all times.
Eventually, the Rebel Alliance formed a military and a more diplomatic elements, and by the time that Episode IV comes around, they've gained enough strength to actually start to take action against the Empire.
Sources for this? The obvious one would be StarWars.Com's databank. In particular, this entry:
http://www.starwars.com/databank/organi ... index.html
Although the EU bios for Mon Mothma and Garm Bel Iblis are also good.

Thank you! I feel enlightened. At least I can have an informed opinion of why I don't like the Rebels now.

Hey, happy I could help. Besides, Garm Bel Iblis and Talon Karrde are my two favourite EU characters, so any reason I have to rant about them or just show my Star Wars geekiness is great by me. :lol:Thank you! Kyanus beat me to the answer.. but yeah, they want the democratic ideals of the Old Republic. They fight against the dictatorship of the Emperor.Jabe Adaks wrote:I voted Rebellion. Why?

"A new hope" makes an effort to describe the political landscape of the galaxy. Pay particular attention to what the Imperial Officers talk about on the Death Star. Also some of Leia's conversations with Tarkin and Vader are enlightening. Some key phrases are:
"... plans to Disband the Senate"
"Fear will keep the local systems in line"
"The more you tighten your grip, the more systems will slip through your fingers"
"Before the Dark Times, before the Empire"
The picture that is painted for us is a military powerhouse that seeks to rule by might, not right... and there are those who oppose them.

The greatest RP aid for me would probably be actually getting into some RP lol. I haven't done any serious roleplay since my teens and playing D&D with friends. I'd like to, but I just don't have a lot of people in my immediate circle that RP often. The RP I get usually ends up with just greetings and some small talk. I'm not feeling comfortable enough with it at this point to make up my own so if anyone has anything they are working on that they can fit me into for a bit part or something PM me. Heck if you want to make up something new PM me as well so I can get my creative juices flowing again lol.

What you just described is the hardest part of RP... getting started.Shensen wrote:The greatest RP aid for me would probably be actually getting into some RP lol. I've thought long an hard on the subject and the best advice I can give you is to just do it. You have to nose your way in to some RP. Make your own story and try to suck someone in, or try to get involved in someone else's story.
People who passively wait for RP often never get what they want.
The good news is that once you get over the initial hurdle, it tends to get much easier. Now you have frienships and are building a history as you go.

Trust me, it can be as easy as just overhearing someone else RP, and sending them a quick /tell asking if you can get in on the RP. Most of us here will gladly find a way to work you in.The greatest RP aid for me would probably be actually getting into some RP lol. Thanks for the replies. I've been to a few of the RP events, but it always seems like people have their plots going already and I felt kinda bad trying to push my way into them. I'll try it out the next time I attend something and I'm sittin there listening...well I won't join in with the couple that seems to always sit up front and RP some rather racy scenes lol.

Don't feel bad.. push your way in.Shensen wrote:Thanks for the replies. I've been to a few of the RP events, but it always seems like people have their plots going already and I felt kinda bad trying to push my way into them.
Consider this.. if I did not want anyone getting involved in my RP, I would take it to a remote location. Many of us RP in public venues specifically because we want people to join us.

I would appreciate some information about the role of the Royal Security Force during the time of SWG.
You really see them in Episode I as some kind of palace guard and then they are in SWG as some kind of local police/military on Naboo, which seems to be some support of the Empire.
The queen on the other hand gives out Rebel Quests, so for me as a player whos character is actually an RSF officer, it would be great to know if there are any informations about the RSF not only dating around Episode I.
I mean as I said above, I can get information just by looking at the status of RSF NPCs InGame and so on, but some more detailed information would be awesome.

We need George to come to this board... uh... someone deligate that. *runs*
If you are ever looking for RP and you see the name "Whar" on your friends list, you have something to do. There is always some plot, or some dirt I have on somebody. Right now Whenever I bump into people I tell them I have jobs opening up in Noc. So that is a pretty good way to draw people in. My new evil plot gives me plenty of reasons to RP.
How did I get started? I was a nobody, and I put a bounty on one of the most well known RP'ers in this community. That was an instant RP boost, but I don't suggest that particular method...

Unless of course you are willing to chew off your own thumb to escape her wrath.warsloth wrote:

Actually, chewing off ones own thumb is probably a more desirable outcome than the alternative.
But seriously, Whar afforded me some delightful RP when I first met him. Those were some fun scenes!

Very good posts and good to see you guys giving each other rp advice, but anyone have any comments on what you'd like to see for the RP Aids so I can focus my posts instead of posting every piece of info from every book I have? That is kinda the topic here, not that anythings wrong with whats been said here just feels a little off topic.
