...is just sick!"When AMD succeeded in getting on the HP retail roadmap for mobile computers, and its products sold well, Intel responded by withholding HP's fourth quarter 2004 rebate check and refusing to waive HP's failure to achieve its targeted rebate goal; it allowed HP to make up the shortfall in succeeding quarters by promising Intel at least 90% of HP's mainstream retail business."
I never know what to think about AMD. I've always been a fan of their products, but I've never had an AMD chip that didn't die in some fashion within about a month. On the other side, I've never had anything but good dealings with Intel chips, even though their business practices leaves me a bit upset.Makes me glad I've always been an AMD fan.![]()
soooo....Intel decided to not give them a free pass on not reaching a targeted sales mark and it makes them evil? While Intel's motives are clear, it is not unreasonable that they did what they did.Seret Sajet wrote:"When AMD succeeded in getting on the HP retail roadmap for mobile computers, and its products sold well, Intel responded by withholding HP's fourth quarter 2004 rebate check and refusing to waive HP's failure to achieve its targeted rebate goal; it allowed HP to make up the shortfall in succeeding quarters by promising Intel at least 90% of HP's mainstream retail business."
No, its not that withheld incentive for failure to make a goal, its the fact that they offered them a break in exchange for ditching AMD. Its one thing to campaign to sell your product and make money, its entirely another to strongarm your competetor out of business.Krusshyk wrote:soooo....Intel decided to not give them a free pass on not reaching a targeted sales mark and it makes them evil? I agree to offer you 500 bucks back if you can sell 10,000 dollars of product and you don't hit 10,000...possibly because you sold a competing product and I am the one in the wrong? I tell you this much...I wouldn't waive it either. It would be a pretty poor business decision. And don't tell me that AMD wouldn't have done the same thing if they could. They are out to make money, same as everybody else. Too bad Intel got the market first.
I've never heard of anyone having an AMD chip that broke down within a month but thats not to say it never happens. I have personally used AMD processors for years now without a single problem. Many others I know use AMD as well without fail.Kyanus wrote:I never know what to think about AMD. And you better have a few extra fans in there because their chips run hot and are really sensitive to heat (not a good combo).Novall wrote:I would use AMD if the could milti-task efficently.
Thats the main problem with AMD.
Actyually, the AMD heat threshold can be a much as 20 degrees higher then the intel. To me Intel are way more heat sensative then AMD, but thats because of the bus speeds. AMD has a smaller bus speed but a larger pipeline, so both brands of chips are pretty much the same speed.Zannon wrote:And you better have a few extra fans in there because their chips run hot and are really sensitive to heat (not a good combo).Novall wrote:I would use AMD if the could milti-task efficently.

maybe you just need more fans????MrDooo wrote:Shuddup. I've only burnt 2 chips.
I like AMD. They're the underdog. And the chips I burned are my own fault, not the brand's.
Wait so what yer trying to tell me is that these businesses are only concerned about their bottom line? It reminds me of when peoplebitch about what SOE does with SWG, right or wrong they are doing what they believe will make them more money and expand their customer base. For me I just wish businesses in general and MMORg's specifically tried being more customer friendly with regards to support and response.Skorixor wrote:yeah this is nothing new
marlboro cigs do it to vendors
coke does it to their vendors
they say, "give us the most shelf space or we won't sell with you at all, or at a much higher price, etc etc"
