so I'm doing my weekly virus scans
norton AV 2005...all clean
AVG....DING, 1 virus, and it cannot remove it
it's called java/openstream and it's a trojan downloader...meaning it automatically dloads malicious software
where can you get it? IE, firefox, and where I got it MS messenger (thx to zannon, cuz he's the only one I talk to on it)
so anyway, after much digging thru the internets, I found the solution
go to control panel/javaplugin/cache tab/clear the cache
ran the scan again, and it's gone
I'm running my virus detection apps, and.....
Great to have you on top of that situation, and thanks for the heads up.

In actuality, any browser that suports Java(IE, Firefox, Opera) can get this trojan. Usually the trojan will ask the user if it can run, if you inadvertantly click on this option the trojan downloads. It could be as simple as some dumb website requiring special java scripting to run(check your java security levels--if it's on automatic download--disable this feature) Clearing the cash should help but you also might want to check for instances of software that may be running spyware. Sometimes the trojan will try to reinstall itself if said application is launched in the future.
Hope that helps!

I currently run:
norton 2005 and AVG for viruses/threats
spywareblocker, spybot, MS antispyware, and adaware for spyware
if it gets through all those, then there isn't much I can do
