(Split) Why Ekade should get ROTW
Ekade still dosn't have RotW yet so a Rave on Kashyyyk means that she can't attend. Dosn't mean you shouldn't go, but maybe a S&V at the Despot and Rave on Kash?

S'ok.. the needs of the many outweight the needs of the few, or the one.

There was plenty of RP to be had last night so I had an enjoyable evening.

LOL, I get that a lot.
I'm still waiting to see/hear a complelling reason to buy it. All I hear is that "you get to go to Kash and do quests -n- stuff".
Here is the long explanation...
I am a Dancer. As such, I am a combat gimp. I get destroyed by the harder things in the game. What results is a sense of futility that really detracts from the enjoyment of the experience.
My other issue is that I am a melee character, and the baddies still warp all over the screen. That combined with fighting on hill makes it very hard to target, much less actually close with and hit something.
When fighting in a group a level 80's, it is a little more fun. The problem there is that they can kill things just as well without me there. I get maybe one or two whacks at something before the level 80's drop it.
Dancer is core to my character's identity, so that is not going away. As such, it leaves me with a very limited, and not so enjoyable combat experience overall.
In order for combat to be enjoyable, you need to feel that the decisions you make in combat are important, if not critical.
In WoW I play a healer. If I don't make the right decisions at the right time, we all die. That experience is very enjoyable because the decisions are important. I feel like an important member of the team.
Pre-CU, Dancer/Fencer/Brawler was viable because I was an excellent tank. Post CU I respecced to Swordsman.. but in this new system I am not very useful.
I can use 2 scenarios to explain why I am not useful:
Scenario 1: In a group fighting Gurk or Pickets
- These are so easy that we could win even if I take a nap.
Scenario 2: Super Battle Droids in the underground bunker from the Casino Night RP event last month
- Basically once they target me.. I am dead in one or two shots.
I guess you could say I don't find combat enjoyable because they don't have scalable challenges with worthwhile rewards for a gimp Dancer/Combat template. In WoW, regardless of your level you can go somewhere and find a challenge relative to your level and receive enjoyable rewards for your efforts.
So, if ROTW is mostly just combat.. then I see no reason to get it.

RotW 'is' mostly 'just' combat Ekade. I'll say that right now. 'Compelling' is suppose to be the ammount of content they've added. This being the number of 'same-type' Npc missions you find throughout the galaxy; except on one planet.
The very WoW like nature of the planet leads you into 'sequenced' areas. And some of the quest rewards actually 'are' worth having for performing the quest. But, your right I think, in that the comparable lvl challenges vs 'need' in a group is sorely lopsided now. This was one of my fears about the CU that had me upset from the get go.
Let's face it... a group full of lvl 80's probably 'does' have a more solid chance of 'getting xp faster' if they kick the lower lvls. It has made 'lvling' perhaps a little more bareable and made it 'look' fun. But, comparable rewards (call this feel of needed in a group) versus where your role is a a lower lvl is virtually non-existant.
However, keep in mind this as well. SWG wasn't designed for the current system. For 'this' type of game WoW has a pre-prepared lvl system. What I mean by this is certain 'areas' that were pre-made for your lvl to adventure in. Group with a high lvl and you'll be able to quest your way through the areas faster. SWG was set up to be open-ended; but then pasted on the 'character' side of this WoW format without revamping the Environment. The affect is that you feel very much like a chicken with it's head cut off. Pushing you to go group with the lvl 80s because running missions at your concurrent lvl just get you killed. Not always the case, and people 'do' solo fine. But that is the overall feel this gives the gimp players.
Why buy RotW? Honestly, don't do it for the content. The mission types aren't really different from everywhere else in the game just more missions in one place in the galaxy than the combined planets put together one could say. *go here kill that come back to me* *talk to this person* *go fly a space mission* Some areas on Kashyyyk are set up differently... but their the same caves and altered toons you see everywhere else in the game. The quest rewards 'should' be a reason to get it. In fact, aside from getting it to just be with your online friends... this is about the only solid reason I'll give you to go get it, Ekade.

You are level 56, everything there starts out at 32, including the witches in the dead forest which drop some most excellent loot.Ekade wrote:I am a Dancer. As such, I am a combat gimp. Fixed.Ekade wrote:My other issue is that I am a melee character, and the baddies still warp all over the screen. That combined with fighting on hill makes it very hard to target, much less actually close with and hit something.
Yeah but you get all the XP, what else matters?Ekade wrote:When fighting in a group a level 80's, it is a little more fun. The problem there is that they can kill things just as well without me there. I get maybe one or two whacks at something before the level 80's drop it.
Smaller groups.. smaller groups.Ekade wrote:In order for combat to be enjoyable, you need to feel that the decisions you make in combat are important, if not critical.
A healer's role is no different in Galaxies, a good group needs a healer.Ekade wrote:In WoW I play a healer. If I don't make the right decisions at the right time, we all die. That experience is very enjoyable because the decisions are important. I feel like an important member of the team.
Close range damage dealers are necessary to shorten the lifespan of creatures while they are rooted and before the get to the ranged members of the group. Its critical.Ekade wrote:Pre-CU, Dancer/Fencer/Brawler was viable because I was an excellent tank. Post CU I respecced to Swordsman.. but in this new system I am not very useful.
A good group can manage the aggro level and if you want a challenge then aggro more of them. Swordsman, your own profession, has area taunt - you are the one profession that can control the battle overall.Ekade wrote:Scenario 1: In a group fighting Gurk or Pickets

Know your role. Stay back until they are aggro on someone else (a tka) and then add in your damage with everyone else. When everyone else is in trouble use area taunt and take one for the team. Again you have to be in a good group.Ekade wrote:Scenario 2: Super Battle Droids in the underground bunker from the Casino Night RP event last month

I think you haven't played in a group recently. People are better at playing now, post CU people didn't know what their role was or how to best use it.Ekade wrote:I guess you could say I don't find combat enjoyable because they don't have scalable challenges with worthwhile rewards for a gimp Dancer/Combat template. Its mostly quests, many of which have low level combat and it is remarkably similar to WoW.Ekade wrote:So, if ROTW is mostly just combat.. then I see no reason to get it.

This varies. From house hold decorations to weapons and even a few new player mounts here and there. Honestly, if your going to get RotW; I reccomend going out and buying The Total Experience and using this as an expansion to add to your current account as opposed to opening a new account with it. The BARC Speeder is worth it in my opinion. And it 'can' be repaired with a Master Artisan tool should the worst happen. And, c'mon, you've got guildies that'll help you with your speeder in that circumstance.
Now then, for the weapons... with how CU works... some are just by lvl .. many within your lvl 56 use lvl. If you'll browse through these forums I think you'll find Skor has posted links to just some of them. Mostly the ranged stuff but there are equivalent Melee weapons available. Some of the quests are long but once you get used to Kashyyyk... it doesn't seem as large as it does at first (save for the 8 sequences of some of the caves on the planet which is what gives the Jedi templates somewhere to hide).
*g* I guess if you want to make this a little more on topic; another reason to get RotW (and I still think you ought to pay the 'same' ammount roughly and just buy The Total Experience as opposed to the download to get the new speeder) is to have something to do while Casino night is closed.

How about all the RP opportunities we've started out there? The slavery issue..the poison issues...the camps we need to break into ..the avatar platform that requires a space assault into an instanced dungeon (you are still a great pilot no?)
just a fe wmoer things to throw out there

Darstai'is Sickle (Looted from cyrans the unfeeling, like 8 steps into kkowir forest) is a swordsman weapon. You should even consider doing the wookiee arena quest to get the blade of nyenthi'oris. Its a sword that anyone can use with a CL of 54, but it does like 1000 something damage. With melee specials it could be brutal.
