One of my all time favorites, James Doohan or "Scotty" has died at the age of 85. He was, in my opinion, one of the best Trek actors ever. He was an inspiration not just for his acting but for the things he did for others and the way he lived his life.

And he did all that after serving in WWII and losing a finger on D-day.

"Jimmy, you're going to be Scotty long after you're dead. If I were you, I'd go with the flow."

Soooo...
Are they gonna launch him out of a torpedo tube?
Sad day...I liked him. I saw him in person once. He looked so jolly. A lot like Mr. Belvedere...but jolly, nonetheless.

Yes, this is a sad day indeed. From all I've read, he was quite a generous man as well.

Scotty was always my fav character on that series; he will be missed.
*takes a shot of scotch, then pours another and dumps it on the ground*
This one's for all my Scottish homies--even the ones born in Canada. Peace.

I saw him give a talk at a convention once...he told a lot of old war stories, and how he got the part of Scotty, but after every story he told, he'd go, "Okay? Okay," and it got to be a little joke and everyone would giggle.
Later, the person I was with was getting an autograph from him and talked to him a little, and I kinda stood back, but he winked at me. I was pretty tickled by it. He was already in a wheelchair at this point and his hands were really shaky...but he was still a character.
