Buns a la Mode...

Okay, here's a question. Leia wore her hair in double buns on the sides of her heads in the movies--it's the classic hairstyle that's mimicked and parodied. The question I have is, did she wear it that way because it was in style for the time period (the game's) or because it was a little old fashioned and conservative, and she played the part of princess and ambassador?

She was raised on Alderaan and seemingly in an aristocratic family much like her mother had become. As a matter of being exposed to it... I think this was a popular court fop sort of style for her to be wearing.

I think she wore it that way due to lack of refreshers on spacecraft. This way she could sleep easy at night knowing she wouldn't have to comb her butt length hair in the morning. Although I would think that prolonged wearing of it in that fashion would lead to headaches and is possibly why she was always so curt with those that worked with her.

Later in life when she shaved her head on the planet of Duro, and even when she let it down on Endor, she seemed much friendlier with those around her. I think this is due to the relief of not having her hair knotted up.

I think we could no more explain the "buns" then we could explain the "mullet".

Some things just ARE.

as for the hair. i think it was just style for royalty at the time. who knows. maybe she just liked having bagles on the side of her head *shrug*
