What? You had your computer on during a storm? Even I don't do that...and I am a computer tard. I learned my lesson.
I was playing my old playstation during a lightning storm once (coincidentally, I was playing Dark Forces, another Star Wars game) when our antenna got struck by lightning...coolest and crappiest thing ever.
I felt a hardcore jolt in the hand that was holding the controller that went all the way up to my shoulder. It made my arm tense and I chucked the controller across the room and into the wall...yanked it right out of the port.
The tv was fried, the controller was fried, but miraculously the Playstation still worked. I have no idea why. Maybe that's why they tell people not to use corded phones in lightning storms.
Well anyway, that's my tangent rant. Good luck with the comp problems.

And that's how Del'tar's balls were born...with a flash of lightning, a jolt of electricity, and a shock up the arm. When he came to, his nuts had gown to 20 times their previous size and his life was changed forever...a
LEGEND was born....now he fights crime, balls in hand, making the world safe from over-priced hookers and dick tease girlfriends everywhere! Granted, the shock also destroyed any chance of him ever produncing healty and active sperm...but, hey, it's a small price to pay to become a super hero.

No, I shut my comp down before the storm hit. Lighting hit outside my window maybe 20-50 ft from my room and blew through the surge. Whats really wierd is that it only blew out my gaming machine...everything else is running like a champ.

His new-found super powers include:
- extreme jumping ability (think hippity hop)
- magic mace action (kinda like wonder woman's magic lasso and bullet-proof bracelets in one)
- nigh-invulnerable self-confidence
- ability to mod at will

Did you switch out the power supply? A lot of times the power supply is the only thing that gets destroyed and everything else comes back up fine.
Here is what I do in this situation, which has been dozens of times since I used to work for the Best Buy warranty service center:
1) Pull out all the expansion cards, even the video.
2) Disconnect all drive cables going to the motherboard.
3) Disconnect all power leaving the power supply, except for the motherboard.
4) Turn on and hope the PC Speaker beeps. If it doesn't turn on get a new power supply.
5) Once you get a beep or an indication that the system is powering up drop in your video card (while turned off of course).
6) At this point you should be able to determine if you have a good video card or not, you may want to test with a spare card you have, even a PCI video card.
7) Once you get video and can see the bios doing its thing, start hooking things up one by one and starting up. If you re-attach something and the system doesn't start disconnect it and assume its bad.
There's more, but I am guessing you may already know most of this.

damn... I thought this was a thread about how lighnting made the jiggly boob characters from DOA come to life in your room...
Because we all know thats the only reason they invented that game.
anyway, I have to agree with Jabe's suggestionon the power supply.

Aye', I just got through doing work on my computer the night before... Basically my computer would lock up... reboot... or just black out and make a high pitched beep like sound. We have been having some storms down South in Illinois lately... long story short... my power supply got 'half' toasted and I didn't know!
So, I went out and said poo on it and bought a new tower with power supply... Some Viper thingy... All I really cared about was... Yummy! 500 watt power supply! *prays this one doesn't get fried too*
Only thing I hate now is... I take everything out of the old tower and hook it exactly as it was in the old set up... and I'll be damned if it doesn't register my CD drives... poopy!

i had a comp hit by lightening once, came in through the phone line and the power line...ruined my tv, my phone, and it put black scorch marks on my modem in my comp (gateway)...replaced the modem, and eventally every other part in the case, and it NEVER ran right after it was hit...
now when lightening is around, comp/tv/stereo all get unplugged as well as the phone line to comp
