Anybody remember an old 80's cartoon (at least before 1987) about a futuristic cowboy who threw a little blade disc (like the predator's thing)?
I remember the action figures for it were kinda big, like close to a foot tall each...I remember getting a couple of the figures for one of my birthdays, and I remember liking it a whole bunch. For the longest time, I thought maybe I was making it all up in my head, until my friend was just talking about the action figures 2 days ago. Clearly, we both didn't make it up...so WHAT THE HELL WAS IT CALLED?
Anyone?
Edited...nevermind. Google is wonderful. It was called Bravestarr. And as I am looking at the pics of it, it seems hella lame.
Edited again to include: I misspoke. Marshal Bravestarr had guns...it was the bartender who threw the disc. Turns out it was a plate. Man, 5 year olds have shitty memories.

In this same vein, was anybody else big on Sectuars: Warriors of Symbion?
Those toys were pretty bad ass as well. The insect puppets were pretty cool.

I think you mean Bravestarr, Krussh. I don't remember any sort of predator disk but I do remember that creepy as horse-man sidekick of his. Damn that freaked me out.

Sectaurs were the shit! I loved the tarantula puppet thing. It scarred the crap out of my sisters when ya snuck up on 'em.
He-man, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Voltron and Thundercats were my favorites but I always appreciated the other, less-popular cartoons like the Bionic 6, M.A.S.K. and Dangermouse.
Edited: Ah I just saw Krussh answered his own question. Cheap bastard.
To keep the obscurity going here's another crack in memory lane...
Anyone remember C.O.P.S.
Crazy looking special forces cops with cyber parts. Just like real life!

Yes I remember C.O.P.S.
I liked the guy with the orange hat.
Also, Silverhawks. They were rockin. Wasn't too fond of the cowboy "Bluegrass" but the leader was pretty cool. Can't remember his name. His little sidekick was called Tallyhawk, though.

How many cartoons/shows were based on the I-WIN button style of conflict resolution?
Meaning, each episode the bad guy would put together an elaborate plot, only to be thrwarted by the hero doing little more than pressing the I-WIN button.

Yeah, MASK was cool and I liked COPS too. Wasn't big on the Bionic 6 though.

Oh holy shit, I remember the Bionic 6 toys now.
They had those see through limbs that were (shocker!) bionic!
My older brother had the asian looking dude with the headband. I had the guy with the orange hat. I got my childhood shows confused. The orange hat guy wasn't in cops.
Those things were freakin' heavy!

Man...while we are on this kick...what about Centurions?
The three good guys all have a different color body suit, one was blue, one was orange, and one was green. Each of them had different suits of armor that let them attack from the Air, Land, and Sea. The blue guy had lot's of suits that could fly, the orange guy had lot's of land armors and stuff, and the green guy went underwater a ton. The cool thing was that you only had to buy the ONE figure, and then just buy the different suits to go with em.

So you're saying you played dress up with a doll? And this is not like owning barbies how?
personally when I was deciding what kind of buttkicking was necessary my only accesory choices were what weapon, what vehicle, and what accelerant am I going to use when I decide to light these bad boys up?
I have lost entire collections of toys because of the choices I made but I had a lot of fun.

I think this was the basis of most cartoons, Ekade. It was really propaganda to a younger generation in a way.Ekade wrote:How many cartoons/shows were based on the I-WIN button style of conflict resolution?

However, look at the other things these things were trying to put out to us kiddies at the time...
G.I.Joe had little infomertial types to 'help' kids recognize not getting into cars with strangers. (tries to remember if that was a Bazooka or Alpine spot).
Thundercats always used each other's abilities to do teamwork magic 'I-win' plots.
Transformers, and G.I.Joe, did the same really. And Optimus Prime, hailed as one of cartoons most popular leaders ever, always had a quip about, "I would not ask any of my autobots to do anything I wasn't willing to do myself."
There was a lot of good to it... perhaps beyond a child's understanding to see until their much older looking back on their favorite cartoons. But, the reinforcement toward teamwork, leadership, etc, etc... was there. But, it's also cartoons aimed at children... of course there is going to be cheesy plots that don't hold the interest of an adult.

Reminds me of what I'd do with the duplicate/hated G.I. Joe action figures I had. I'd chuck them against a wall in order to break them, and then take the pieces and arrange them as part of a landscape.personally when I was deciding what kind of buttkicking was necessary my only accesory choices were what weapon, what vehicle, and what accelerant am I going to use when I decide to light these bad boys up?
There was "G.I. Joe Meets the Minefield", "G.I. Joe Meets the Maneating Dinosaurs", "G.I. Joe Doesn't let the Wookiee Win"... Tons of fun for a sick and twisted young kid.

That's the thing, Eebs...the suit WAS their vehicle for but kickery.E-bo Obi wrote:So you're saying you played dress up with a doll? And this is not like owning barbies how?

I have lost entire collections of toys because of the choices I made but I had a lot of fun.
For example, Ace McCloud (the blue guy) had a jet pack with built in rocket launcher, 2 wrist mounted rocket launchers, booster rockets that attatched to his legs, and an armored chestplate. Jack Rockwell (the yellow guy and my personal favorite) had a suit that amounted to a giant cannon with treads that attatched on to his feet.

Well in that case I would have had three dudes with the stuff attached to them all the time. Otherwise you'd have to change all the time and there is no time for that when the black cat firecrackers are going off around you.
