Server Consolidation?

I mean... Yay, I can move a house easily... but ummmm. Moving homes is not one of the top issues.

only players are making this sound like consolidation.

its just a helpful tool for people trying to move around

Wow... In theory you could use this to fill up a house full of tons of items and pack it up in to one item in your inventory. I hope they thought this through.

They probably figure if you want to pay the maintenance on a house in your backpack then it isn't a big deal. Looks like they just added another money sink to the game.

Also they didn't mention if it still counted the lots if you packed your house this way. If it doesn't then its definately just another money sink for them.

If you read that closely... it states that you 'would' be able to check the status of the house from in your inventory and 'pay' maintainance on it from there as well. To me, this suggests that you 'still' have to pay for it even thought it's in your backpack. Also, it would seem redundant in thinking that as long as a house was 'packed' with items regardless of if it's in your inventory or placed... it takes up the same number of lots 'till' you remove the items and reclaim the deed.

That's the way I read that anyway.

And, I agree with Isleh... while this is handy.... There are other things they need to be working on. :D

there are different dev teams for various systems...doing something like this doens't take dev time away from like the combat changes and such

Well, honestly, it's damn cool. I can finally move my home out of Mos Tera but there are players on unpopulated servers that want a server consolidation and this is a big step towards that. :???:

But also...

This may also mean the possible introduction of RP, PvE and PvP servers in both jedi and non-jedi versions. :D

They've offered respecs and a token respec. Why not server moves? A RP server may offer a cannon Mos Eisley patrolled with storm troopers while a PvP server may offer the GCW. Kinda solves a big problem of giving what the players want. "Here's some options, choose"

Actually, I noticed on the start up menu that as of November they were going to offer character transfers 'with' items. So, this might not be that too far off. Personally, as long as their charging us for it, I think I'm going to stay right here on Gorath with the rest of you. :D

Even more so...

We could then see the introduction of terminals in hotels that would do the same thing as inviting people onto a ship....

Maybe apartment deeds made by arcitechs

I would like to see that in game as well... an apartment in Coronet... a little ran down pre-decorated house in Mos Eisley slums. It would add to the feel of living in the galaxy instead of... this is my storage shack that houses have become. If they did implement this... they'd deffinately want to make it take up lots just the same... otherwise... this is going to turn into another storage area people take. *giggles* My yacht is full... my 10lots of houses are full... my bank is full... and now my apartment is... Full!

PLEASE OH PLEASE LET IT BE RP AND PVP SERVERS!!!!

you people probably dont know how great that would be first hand...

Imagine you are in Mos Eisley in the middle of a scene... one of those RP griefers comes along... then procedes to violate RP server regulations, and is subsequently BANNED from the server :)

and the GCW would rawk on a pvp server... we could have it even better if they made a PVP planet, best of both worlds IMHO...

Frankly, I wouldn't be too interested in an RP server. In my past experiences with RP servers, they really are not that different from normal servers. (I've played WoW, EQ, and EQ2.) Sure, they have rules that SHOULD be enforced...but they rarely are.

However, if I felt they could actually enforce the "in character" and "anit-RP Griefing" rules of an RP server, I would be there in a shot. Although, I wouldn't get your hopes up for any kind of "RP" or "PvP" servers anytime soon (But then again, I am a pessimist, so take it however you'd like).

personally the only way i'd transfer to another server in a consolidation is if my friends (you guys and select others) went there too. and i could go over with all of my items and skills intact because i have busted my ass hard to get to where i am on the force sensitive tree and ill be damned if i gotta give up my dream of being a jedi

Having moved houses and been in a state of chaos for weeks, I welcome this! Bow down and knock head on ground 3 times to the devs who did this.

As for consolidating servers, anyone want the lag that you used to get on Bria when it was only moderately full?

And when you have RP servers and PvP servers, the only players who care are the RPers. The PvPers think they should be able to go anywhere and be catered to...an attitude that the industry has done nothing to discourage from what I've been told. I think that this will change as the player population ages and becomes bored with playing the same game, with different scenery, over and over.

Just as I look forward to school buildings disappearing as the classroom moves into the home PC, I look forward to the immersion aspect of gaming becoming more and more important as technology develops. Just imagine, the smell of the battlefield and the sound of blowflies...yes, I think that we will move toward more RP and less PvP.

After reading the original thread and this one, I still don't see where the idea of server consolidation comes in to play. They're giving you an easy way to move your house. If you spent countless hours decorating it, then you can finally move from the city you hate and take the house you love.

Thats about all I can see from this. The last tiem I checked, the character transfer service doesn't let you take items or money, just skills.

Its doubtful SOE will consolidate servers anytime soon. It would be bad PR, not to mention it would bring an enormous number of problems of breaking communities apart and trying to fairly move cities that reside at the same coordinates, etc.

If you want an RP server, then go sign here:

And make sure you mention that Gorath has undoubtedly the biggest RP community on all the servers. This forum alone has more posts than the official SOE RP forum.
