While oil prices are about 40 percent higher than a year ago, they would need to surpass $90 a barrel to exceed the inflation-adjusted peak set in 1980.
"People talked about $60 crude slowing economies around the world. But here in the U.S., ( Federal Reserve Chairman) Alan Greenspan is telling us the economy is doing great and getting stronger," said James Cordier, president of Liberty Trading Group in Tampa, Fla. "It bodes well for crude testing the $70 range."
jeeez
so let's see, at my airline if barrel prices rise $.01, we pay $30 million more per year
and it just jumped $2 a barrel
so that means we're pay $6 Billion more for fuel this year so far
we already, for the first time in history, are paying more for fuel than for employees salaries...
ugh

Wasn't it just over a year ago people were spazzing about it going over $40/barrel?
The reality is that gas is going up because countries like China and India are buying more and more barrels all the time. The reason they are buying more is because employment numbers in those countries are shooting through the roof and people are living a better quality of life and commuting to more and more of these jobs daily.
So basically what is happening is you are getting much less helpful technical support for your computer from companies like Dell who have foreign call centers. But the cost for you to commute to work is now doubled because of it. At the same time the profits from oil are going in to the questionable hands of people that would like to see you dead.

Great. Looks like it's time to go to war with China now. Lousy bastards improving their quality of life! I just paid $30 to fill up my Civic.
MY CIVIC. BUDGET CAR.
Seriously, when do we go?

and then they interview people at the pumps, and they're like, "yeah it's not that high, it doesn't bother me" as he fills up his SUV....I want to go and punch him in the mouth

Oh you probably hate me. When I left it cost me over $60 every time I went to the pump for fuel. Half these pricks turn their pumps off at $50 to protect against runaway pumps. So now I have to pay at the pump twice to fill up my truck. * shrug * My dad's dealing with it now.

This is the reason why I ride a bike to work. Gas is way too much to drive around with. Bikes are better for you anyways.
