Gas going up to $4.00 a gallon.

Who the hell can afford that? This bullshit over oil prices is getting out of hand. People are goning to start becoming very dissalusioned if they cant afford to eat, or pay for their home, or live becasue their spending all their money on gas.

Somethings gonna have to happen to stop this soon. People can only take so much.

I read in the paper(yes I get one over here) that people have been getting killed at the pumps. A manager tried to stop a drive off and got run over.

RAGE AT THE PUMPS!

I haven't bought gas in 4 months so I won't feel it right away. But I am already planning to heat with wood this winter.

Personally, I'm not overly concerned about the cost of gas. Sure, it goes up, but then it goes down again. That's the way it's always been and that's the way it will be. The last time gas prices soared everyone acted like it was the end of the world and then a few years later we were all paying less for gas than we had in the previous 10 years. Yeah, gas prices are high, but in adjusted dollars, at this point, it's still less than people were paying during the last gas crisis in the 80's and people are now making more on average than they did back then.

Lots of people are complaining that they have to spend $50 to fill the tank on their SUV, which I think is a silly comment. People that buy cars that take premium gas or have low MPG rolled the dice that gas prices would never go up and lost. It's as simple as that. I bought a car last year that takes only premium gas and it's costing me about $40 to fill the tank, but I'm not going to complain because thats' the choice I made. Dooo bought a hybrid and, right now, I bet he's feeling really good about that choice and I have to give him props for that, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna trade in my car and by a hybrid. I'm gonna live with what I bought and be happy when prices come down.

I have an uncle in Michigan. He said gas is $3.50 a gallon. I about feel out of my chair when I heard that. Down here is is high as well. But not that high. Like I said when you need to travel a short distance break out the bike otherwise your other option is pay gas or rent a horse.

what people also don't know is that in just a few years, we will have tapped 50% of the worlds oil...otherwise known as the "easy 50%"

the last 50% is hard to get at and gas prices will easily go over $5/gallon and stay there...

Please note that the officials who say this are the same ones that said in the 70's and 80's that all the earth's available oil would be used up by the late 1990's. Technology progresses and new methods are used to extract the oil, plus there is a ton of oil in the NE regions of Russia that have never been tapped or were tapped and then neglected to the point of not being able to service the wells and are now abandoned.

Actually, while people love their independence, carpooling/public transit could be...you know...the wave of the future. I mean, if people are SO outraged by the prices...support carpooling and public transit. Yeah, it might be kinda dirty and grody now, but the more you support it, the more money goes into it, and the better it will get.

My mom saw my brother and I off commuting to two different colleges this morning. It was a faint thought in my head that while it's gotta be weird for Mom for like, empty nest type menopause reasons, it's kind of a tragically unavoidable overuse of like...car stuff. If I suggested I drop my brother off at his college on the way to my school to save gas, he'd have a cow...but it'd save a lot of money. And probably encourage him and me both to study more on campus. (Bah)

I stopped living in the dorms and started commuting to save money, and it still saves a lot even with gas prices up. While gas prices being high sucks, what Skor mentioned with the world oil reserves being depleted kinda worries me more.

My dad was really nice and got me a new car when I decided to commute to school and I wanted a hybrid, but it was too expensive and the wait for them was over two years. I did get what is supposed to be a "super efficient" car...it's got really high mileage on the interstate and so I fill up once a week like I did with my old car, but it's got a smaller tank. When I get to the point of needing a new car in like, ten years (I hope it's ten years) and I'm on my own, I'll be getting a hybrid. Or maybe we'll have cars that run on juice or something by then.

I was told on Tuesday that gas was about to hit $3 a gallon near my home.

EDIT: I used to fill up once a week too. 34 gallons though is a hell of a lot to pay for. I think I'll be driving my wife's car a lot now that she isn't working. Not because I am concerned about fuel use but the cost of it.

Yes I have a full size pickup truck which I use as a pickup truck and not some fancy buttonmobile. They are not fuel efficient but when you own a house that is 70-80 years old it requires upkeep.

Actually, using adjusted dollars we're officially higher than gas cost back during that whole "fuel crisis" period.

I'm pissed at the prices because it's blatant price gouging.

We lose 2% of the world's production ability, so prices go up by 25%, even though there's world reserves to cover it? I'm no good at math, but even I can see the blatant disparity there.

Also: I drive an "economy" car and it's costing me $35 a fillup. I fill up 2.5 times/week. This is just insanity. If it hits $4/gallon I'll be paying about $120+/week for gas.
