What are you hoping the Star Wars TV series will be like?

I'm hoping beyond hope that the series looks at the period between EP3 and EP4 through the eyes of all new characters that, from time to time, touch the main character and characters we know in some way. In my version of the series, episodes would revolve around several characters and sets of characters with all their adventures set to the backdrop of the growing Empire.

For example; The series could feature an Imperial officer, a aide to Bail Organa, and a couple of smugglers. The first episode would be show all 4 characters in a plot that would have them all in contact with eachother. At the end of the episode, they would go their separate ways and all the episodes after that would focus on them individually. Episode 2 might be about the smugglers, while Episodes 3 and 4 might focus on the Imp officer. Throughout the series, they would occasionally meet again, but they would also come in contact with characters from the movies. Bail Organa might me in one episode that deals with the birth of the rebellion and hiring the smugglers to smuggle political refugees to a rebel base. another episode might have the Imperial officer being stationed on Tatooine for a while and having to search the Lars homestead for a suspected rebel and we get to see a very young Luke being taken care of by his Owen and Beru.

In my mind, that would be the ultimate SW fans dream series. It would be a series that just opened the doors to the imagination and gave us that same sense of awe and wonder we had when we first got a glimpse of the SW universe back in 1977. I don't want everything explained, I just want more of the universe explored enough to spark my imagination again...but this time every week.

What I would love, is if it was like the book, Tales from Jabba's Palace...where it tells all sorts of background story on events from the movies, from many different character views...

I like that idea too. Maybe not on the events from the movies, but at least the characters. It'd be kinda cool to see episodes about Luke and Biggs growing up together, Chewbacca becoming a slave, Dengar being a swoop racer, IG88 wiping out all the scientists that created him, Tarkin siding with Palpatine in the senate, etc.

Right now, I'd be hard pressed to love anything as much as BSG.

If this show could do Star Wars as well as BSG has re-tooled BSG? I'm sold.

But yeah, Zan, I think you're spot on, which means that won't be what this series is about. I think this series will be all about how Han and Chewie met when they were kids.

As much as I'd love to see it set in a solid timeline in juncture with the other events building up to Episodes 4-6; I'd almost like to see a 'chunk' like season. Wherein, each season deals with a few characters and overall story arc at any given time period... then moves on to a different period of Tales the next season that might be different characters and a part of a different timeline; but with the obvious familiar things from last season in the background.

A season of how Private Veers rose up to be a Colonel; dipicting the changing environment of The Old Republic into the freshly reborn Empire for one season. The next season may leap forward after Episode 6 to show a fragile New Republic trying to rebuild and even explore, Star Trek style, for a season using just a scant few episodes of the Jedi playing the mediators, aka redsuits, of the Republic. Then, if it's meshed like his original movie plans ended up being... perhaps the final season, if it isn't abruptly cute off beforehand, could actually take us back to the very begening; Showing 'The Golden Age' of how it all started... The first Hyperspace Explorers and what their visions for the future were... Just to give it that last little bit of wonder so the season, and finale, leaves you tantalized with a 'What if' feeling. :D

That aside; I'm spot on with what Zannon said. Nothing would make me happier to see the entire series have a look of the technology we see in the first movies.... to take us back to 'our' Star Wars. If that makes any sense. : p

The problem with changing characters each season is that you can't grow to fond of a character or else the series will lose something for you the next season. Its also more expensive to create those types of shows because I believe that actors not on contracts receive higher pay per episode.

I would like to have a set of characters to follow through their adventures. Those are just the types of shows I like. Star Trek, SG-1, and BSG-esque.

X'an is dead on. BSG is king as far as sci-fi TV goes. The Star Wars franshise has had a layer of poop spread all over it in recent years. So my faith in seeing a good TV series is dim.

I hope that the show gives me the same feeling that I get when I look at any of Ralph McQuarrie's Star Wars art. McQuarrie was the guy that made the theme boards that Lucas took to studios when he was trying to pitch Star Wars.

I can't place it but every time I look at scenes drawn by McQuarrie it takes me back to the first few years of "Star Wars awareness" ('77 - '80-ish). Back when you really couldn't believe that there was not this galactic struggle going on out there somewhere. That feeling of wonder.

It might seem impossible to recapture that since I've seen and now know so much about the saga and it's background, but I know that it is possible, because Mc Quarrie's work does it to me every time. When I look at those drawings I *honestly* forget all of that stuff and snap back to that fantasy side of Star Wars that I first got magnetized by. I'm the only person that I know of who feels that way about McQuarrie art and damn if I can explain it.

If the TV show can do that I'd be in heaven....probably won't but there's hoping for ya'.
