I just got this email from iTunes, asking for me to click on the red cross link to donate money to the relief in new orleans
now I'm sittin gthere thinking, hey that's great and all, but why don't the iTunes people take all the money people spend on dloading songs for ONE DAY and take that money and then ITUNES donate it to the red cross...
Even my own company pisses me off in this repsect...they have always been sponsers of make a wish (hell we even have it painted on a few of our jets) but what do they tell us? "Please turn in your buddy passes to these special children so we can grant them travel to their Make-A-Wish destination, and relieve their family of that burden."
HELLOOOOOOOOOO? if the seat is empty, why do I have to give up my travel priveledges??? give em the seat ya greedy fuck corporate bastard...no one is sitting in it...let em ride
Some corporations asking for relief money is ridiculous...
I think it's good to remind ourselves that we can all spare a little bit to those in need, but yeah...large companies making a butt ton could probably do to remind themselves a little more also.

I was actually glad to hear my company donated 10,000 dollars to the relief fund and will match any employee contribution from 25.00-5,000.00 as well.

In my opinion churches seem to have the right idea going. The Mormens sent like 4 747's full of supplies to the katrina effort in like 30 mins. I may not agree on their ideals but I respect the hell out of that. I think more people should adopt that kinda idea.

You think thats bad. While I have been here I have actually seen individuals TELL soldiers to donate $5 to this or that. It wasn't a request. Nothing like your superior pressuring you to do something you A don't want to do or B can't afford to do.

Even my cheap ass company donated $200,000 and is matching any employee donations up to $50,000.

even though I did bash my own company earlier, they are doing their part...
Just hours after the FAA cleared one runway in MSY to accept emergency flights, American was the first carrier --commercial or military -- to land since the storm, bringing relief to some of the thousands of employees and customers devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
Carrying 8,400 pounds of bottled water and non-perishable food on the way in, the flight was unloaded and returned to DFW as a rescue mission. In addition to a number of employees and family members, AA filled the plane with customers who had been stranded at the airport for days, after martial law was declared and flooding cut them off from the rest of the city.
"It took the efforts of many departments working together to pull this off so quickly," said Tom Del Valle, VP U.S./Canada Division, Customer Service. "From SOC, Crew Scheduling and Security to Customer Service, Flight and Flight Service, there was no shortage of volunteers.
"Everyone involved executed their jobs flawlessly. There was an incredible focus and determination to make this happen for our customers and fellow employees," continued Del Valle. "In just seven hours time, we located an aircraft, crew, and supplies -- airlifted them to New Orleans -- and returned with a full planeload of grateful people."

more corporate hypocrisy
Indiana State U. (where wife and I went) is offering students that were at Tulane to come here and learn. We were thinking, "Wow how generous, letting come for a semester for free, etc etc"
no it's not free
ISU is waiving the $25 admission fee, and will only charge the students in-state tuition...
I'm suuuuure they're happy to pay for their semester twice, but at least they get $25 off

Yeah our company announced they donated 1 million dollars to the Red Cross earlier in the week and are going to match any employee contributions dollar for dollar up to $500 maximum. I was happy to donate what I could today but am still amazed by the seemingly pathetic response time to a crisis here at home, seems we have been quicker to take action when its on the other side of the globe.

Mainly because Apple loses money on every song they sell (or makes only a few pennies per song at very best) through iTunes. It's a loss-leader for them. They make their money on the iPods, not the iTunes.Skorixor wrote:now I'm sittin gthere thinking, hey that's great and all, but why don't the iTunes people take all the money people spend on dloading songs for ONE DAY and take that money and then ITUNES donate it to the red cross...
What I DO think is rediculous is that everyone wants you to go to Redcross through THEIR company website.
It's www.redcross.org. How effin' hard is that to tell people over the radio? Don't tell them "Go to Q101.com and click on the Red Cross icon to be taken directly to their webpage," JUST TELL THEM TO GO TO DUBDUBDUB DOT REDCROSS DOT ORG. It's a lot easier.

Same here. They had a T-shirt drive for 9/11, but since then, nothing. Nothing for the Tsunami victims, and nothing for this. I'll be donating privately through the Red Cross as usual, though.Jabe Adaks wrote:My company didn't donate shit. Not a penny at all.
