Star Wars Strike Force Bowling League

So I went bowling last night for the first time in years... There were SW posters and stand ups and stuff all over the place. I was thrilled (and my non-geeky friend was mildly annoyed at me drooling all over everything with glazed eyes).

I discovered there is going to be a Star Wars "Strike Force" Bowling League thing where you pay monies each week and then at the end of 30 weeks, you get like...a SW bowling ball. So, all I need now is money, coordination and friends and I'll be set to go.

Seriously...it sounds fun. Who's in? (Though you might have to start driving early if you live farther than like...Tennessee.)

Wow. They must be really new. Not even on Bowling.com yet. But the real reason to bowl is to get drunk and make your family think you are doing something other than getting drunk. At least that is why I bowled in leagues for years. Oh and unless they don't charge for shoe rental in the league, buy your own shoes. It will save you money. Trust me.

I am actually kinda considering this just because it sounds like fun--and the bowling ball and bag are freakin' sweet. You like choose between a bowling ball and bag, and a set of six movie posters, hat, and Vader standup. The bowling balls are really cool looking though. There's one from each episode and then there's a pink one entitled "Corageous Woman" with Padme and Leia on it, supposedly, but I guess the picture only shows the Padme side. (Though gag me, why does all SW ladies' stuff have to be pink.)

For the people who've done bowling leagues before...is $12 like a standard thing? It sounds like a whole lot to a po'ass college student like me.

Breakdown of standard bowling fees:

Between $3-$8.50 is for the lineage (3 games of bowling) and the variation depends on the age of the equipment the "house" uses. If it is an older house and they don't maintain the facilities well the lineage is usually cheaper(and the scores lower)

Anything charged above that goes to Banquet/prize fund.

I have been in Leagues where I have made a considerable amount of money. The over lineage fees in this case are most likely for your bowling ball fee.

Also things to note. Many leagues have 50/50 drawings to gain money for an end of year banquet. You may also need to pay a one time sanction fee to join the league. This will be anywhere from $10-$20 which will get you a sanction with your local and national WIBC (Women's International Bowling Association) associations. This allows you to get awards for your bowling scores and possible local and national recognition. Check out your local sports section for bowling scores and awards.
