Survival of the Dumbest...

Someone gimme a gut check. Am I am a complete heartless bastard for not feeling sorry for this woman (except maybe her kids):
CNN wrote:There's a disturbing story emerging from the devastating flooding in Vermillion Parish. Search-and rescue teams will be looking for a woman and her three children in the floodwaters on Sunday.
The family lived in a trailer in a town called Intercoastal City. It's at the very bottom of Louisiana and in a highly vulnerable area.
The Vermillon Parish sheriff told me Saturday night that for three days his deputies went to the woman's home begging and pleading for her to evacuate. They say she refused. On Friday night, deputies made one last attempt. This time they asked her if she would at least let her children go with them. She refused. (Watch Ed Lavandera's report on search and rescue efforts in Louisiana -- 1:56)
When the floodwaters started rising, the sheriff says the woman called for help. Rescuers couldn't reach her home by boat because the waters were too choppy. By the time helicopters flew over area where the woman lived, they couldn't even find her trailer.
Why? Why? Why? Why!?!?

It boggles my mind how people are still refusing to evacuate from threatened areas now after everything that's happened recently.

I also blame the sheriff's dept. last time I checked, child endangerment was still an offense. You take the kids out, by court order, by force, whatever it takes...if the mother wants to drown, then there's nothing to do, but dammit save the kids at least...

Because wolves have the good sense to GET OUT OF THE RAIN!
My guess was this woman was inside playing Warcraft and didn't want to leave. (That one is for Jabe)

Just imagine the horror. I mean you are OMGWTFPWNing in Zul Gurub and you lose your cable internet. Then you look out the window and see a fish swim by. Huh. Wonder if thats the problem. These damn inconsiderate hurricane's are interrupting my game time. I guess I better call someone to get my stupid ass so I can go stay at a marriott and play my game on their internet.

Deffinately 'not' heartless, Jabe. It sounds like the woman got exactly what she deserved. Now the kids... That's a bloody shame!! Unfortunately, I don't think there is a law that allows the authorities to take the kids under order of child endangerment due to impending natural disasster. But, there sure as Hell should be!!!
F.Y.I. If Southern Illinois falls into a crevace and/or gets flooded.... I think I'll be gamming at the Marriott! They've got better internet anyway!

Just makes me want to cry. Especially coming from a mother, they have a special bond with children that us father's can never share. Just makes me sick.
Sometimes I wonder if there should be a test you have to pass before you're allowed to have children.

"should be a test"
I agree 110%
that and an age limit. They need to make chastity belts legal. Im talking about the real thing not the stuff the shady people are into.

I'm not sure I understand what these "shady people" would be doing with a chastity belt. And I am also not quite sure who said "shady people" are. And are chastity belts illegal?

I think I know some dads who would contest that. Sadly, there's a lot of parents on both sides of the reproductive process that don't make the right decisions for the benefit of their kids. I think maybe women get credited for that "special bond" more than dads because of traditional male/female gender roles ingrained in the culture. 'Course, what do I know? I haven't had a baby yet. I may claim I have more of one than the father after carrying around a child in my belly for approx. nine months.
However like I said, I think there's plenty of dads who have that same special bond with their kids as moms. All relationships are different and stem from different places but I know my mom and my dad both would both die for me. I know that even if they split up for who knows what reasons and lived in different houses, they'd still feel the same about me and my brother.
