You know the funny thing is as much as these have been written about as noted by the article, I don't think anyone has ever done a movie about a giant squid. Snakes, Sharks, Insects, but never squid.

Well, there have been a few variations of 20,000 Leagues... and I think the movie adaptation of The Sphere certainly put a squid fear on the big screen; But, indeed, I don't recall seeing one yet where The Giant Squid was the nemisis of the movie; It'd be killer to see though. Spiced up of course since they said the thing doesn't seem to be very active in it's natural environment. *shrugs* That's Hollywood though! Spice it up for the Big Screen.

I've heard about them finding baby giant squid or pieces of dead giant squid--so they finally find a live, healthy one, and they take a tentacle off of it. Good job, science.

no doubt a cool discovery, proving once again that science (or scientists) make assumptions about clues they find that are far from the truth.

Someday maybe people will see that a lot of the wisdom we think we have is really just foolish assumptions.

Well, they didn't take it on purpose. But in all honesty, this is kind of a big deal for marine biologists. This species has never been photographed or filmed alive. They are several carcasses that fishing ships have pulled up or that have washed ashore, but never alive.

There were a couple of Discovery Channel specials that aired on these things a few years ago...they were pretty neat.

Actually the article said they had assumed that the squids would not be active but that the video proves that they are actually quite aggressive when attacking their prey.

So while it would require the typical Hollywood spice up it wouldn't be that out of line. Anyone want to go in on a B rated movie? I think we have something here.

Just have to think of a really clever one word title. "Tentacle" or something.

Yes but he was just a guest star here, don't you think it's time he got his own show?

I have to say, what?? Maybe I'm missing the point of your post, Whar, but they've known giant squid have been around for awhile because of finding baby giant squid and pieces of giant squid, or dead. They can identify it by DNA and really it's just been a matter of finding the damn things in their natural habitat. So like Krussh said, "This is kind of a big deal for marine biologists."

Actually, there is a movie where a jiant squid attacks shit. Kinda like something you'd see in a Jaws movie, just it was with squids.

Jabe's got me wondering what else is deep deep down there that we haven't seen. "Aqua-squatch". "The Abominable Clam Man".

Ok not that, but seriously though.
