Now that we know how to pronounce everyone's names...

Where did you get your name? How did you come up with it.

Trayuse was the result of the random name generator..I just made up his last name.

Zannon...this one is the only interesting story I have for a name. I've been using it for about 8 years now. When I became a loan underwriter, the name of the borrower on the first loan I underwrote that closed was Zannon Quinn. He as a 90 year old man that lived in central Illinois. I thought it was a cool name and used it ever since.

It took me forever to figure out a name.
Seret helped me along by telling me to look for names in something I was interested in. I used to be big into Roman Mythology. All of the Roman/Greek gods names were too unoriginal. I found a site with Nordic Gods names as well.. This is where I got

Loki - The God Of Michief
Vidar - The God of Revenge
Picullus - The God of Hell and Richness (funny isn't it... Maybe it's how we got the saying, Money is the root of all evil)
Eir - The Goddes of Healing

See Introduction to Lok'i inthe Rumblings from Ruby's Forum for the Mother and Father stuff..

I am also basing my character's(and his family's) personality(s) off of these gods.

Random name generator. It was opening night for the most awaited Star Wars game in history. I didn't have time to make one up. Nor did I care.

by X'an Shin
Now this is a thread I can get behind (and as you know, Zan, I LOVE how you got your name).

This is kind of a long story for how I've come to this name, so please bear with me folks.

I read this book probably a decade ago called Snow Crash. Most good geeks know of it. Anyway, the lead character Hiro Protagonist (best. name. ever.) is this incredible swordsman, and at one point talks about having good "zanshin" when fighting.

Now, "zanshin" has like 98 different meanings, depending on what context it's in, evidently. In that context, it means roughly "he who has the best attack." Even that doesn't do it justice, since it's an old Japanese term, it also has to do with honor and courage and bravery, etc. I've also heard it translates out to "self-improvement" and a hojillion other examples. However, for my purposes, I liked the "best attack" angle.

So I started playing QuakeIII with that as my nick in our clan at work [Midway] and at one point Zanshin[Midway] was ranked like 258th in the nation. For a week (go me!).

Evidently the name caught on (and I'm not taking credit for it, I'm just saying people started learning what the term was) and now I see tons of people using it. In fact, when I went to register it on the SOE boards before Galaxies even launched Beta 3 the name was already taken, so I had to go with XanShin, a sound-alike equivalent. I liked this name a lot, because I thought the first name of Xan was a cool name, and the Shaolin monks take the last name of Shin once about every 4 generations, I think (all the monks of a generation take the same last name, or so I've heard).

So when I went to roll up the first Xan Shin on Bria during Beta 3, I found out someone had already taken the name "Xan" and had to play the apostrophy game.

Thus, X'an Shin was born.

As a Twi'lek.

I used the same name when we launched and made him a Zabrak because Twi'leks weren't very tough (this was before I really learned about stat migration).

As an aside, however, having two people whose phonetic nicknames = "Zan" is a pain in the keyster. When we were playing WWIIOnline, everyone had to start referring to me as "Shin." I'm surprised it didn't carry over to SWG.

Well, Sepiv Cithe is a nice piece of work from hitting Random over and over again until I was satisfied. My character's original name from years back was Jinx. I tried to get Jinx but (surprise surprise) that was taken. My alter ego had a similar backstory as she does now, as a space orphan, and she was a killer X-wing fighter pilot with an older brother-like wingman named Erisson. A lot of fun to play. I actually found this picture back then (my avatar) and thought -- oh perfect -- that's totally Jinx!! Only later did I learn that the model was Aika Miura, apparently a Japanese porn star! lol! Well, mischief is as mischief does.

Not being able to get Jinx as a name disappointed me at first. Then I realized -- no wait, that's her go-by, her callsign, her nickname. Only those who really know her should know that she goes by Jinx. That worked even better for role playing. Sepiv works just fine as her name of record. Besides, it shortens also to Sep, which I liked. But how do you pronounce it? 8-)

Ah, this I like.

Seret Sajet is the name of a ancient egyptian pharoah, same spelling. His name means "Dark Warrior."

I chose a Pharoah name first because I am a enthusiast of Egyptian Lore. Even my real last name is the Italian word for Egyptian (Egizio).

But the notion to use a pharoah's name was when I finsihed desigining Seret. With his head tails in front and the stripes he looked like a pharoah's burial mask. So there ya have it.

Good move, Zannon. :D

The name Keer Tregga first came to me in junior high study hall back in 198*cough*. :D It's first conception was Ro Kyr-Treggor who was actually a Human Imperial Admiral in the mold of General George Patton (I need to write that story one day. It's been in my head for years.)

In later years I created characters for all of the Star Wars archetypes, but something about Kyr-Treggor stuck with me.

When I created my SWG Smuggler there was no other choice. I dropped the "Ro" and morphed it to "Keer Tregga".

Weird Factor: Not long after Launch I found the old Han Solo Adventures and finally read them. In the second book, Han Solo's Revenge, Solo starts recounting former members of his first smuggling gang. One of them was named "Tregga". Same spelling. :D

Promise, that was my first time reading that book and the name was a morph of a previous one.

Ah, name history. Intesresting thread.

My character's name actually comes from two characters who merged into one at one point.

Haunter actually came from an old mailing list sig. The name stuck till I got banned in one forum, but made a return in several RPs. Basically Haunter was my evil sadistic bastard who took great pleasure in tormenting the other characters and blowing shit up, and was also a specialist with a rifle.

Nyase actualy first came from an old chat room in which I misspelled another name, Nyasuu. I liked the name though, so it stuck. I used this name on the same forum I was booted out of, so I was still able to post. Heheheh. He was the exact opposite of Haunter. Where as Haunter was the caniving bastard everyone loved to hate, Nyase was the good guy speaking the voice of reason. In later RPs, he became my 'good guy' character, and in another one was Haunter's loyal pet/only friend.

Eventually in the one RP where Nyase was Haunter's companion, the two were merged in a strange curse. Thus each extream acting as a counter balance to the other, or at least trying to. Alas, Haunter's evil personality was the more dominent, so even when doing 'good', it tended to be a destructivly violent good. (Nothing like over kill).

The orignal design for both was based off myself. Haunter being my more evil dominate side which I have the most fun in RPs/games with. Nyase was my better half, which is why you haven't seen me on the news........yet.

So, for SWG, being as I thought you HAD to have a last name, I decided to do a merging of the two and just RP myself if i were in the SW universe. Thus, Nyase Haunter was born.

I had a strange dream about Jimmy Walker from the 70's sitcom "Good Times". Instead of saying "dyno-o-mite!!!" he said "Coiy-o-nite!!!" in my dream. Therefore I deducted that this MUST be my new character name in SWG.

Coiy-o-nite!!!!

Ekade is a slightly massaged version of a name given by the random generator.

Historical tidbit:

I actually created her as a sort of joke because I was bored with trying to figure out how to be an artisan on Kauri. I thought, why not make a twi'lek dancer?

After a couple of hours playing her I was completely hooked. :) Entertaining was a blast back then. I had no history, no nothing when I created her. I sort of evolved into a roleplayer, and she took form. :)

I created Scragg to be a bad guy, because all my other characters had been way too nice. The last name was easy, but it took me a while to come up with the first name. I just played around until I found something that sounded good and nasty.

alonzo was almost never born

I was originally Connor Dohrian, see if you can find a modern day tribute to that by the way :)

those who started on launch day know it was insanely har dto connect and setup the accounts

I setup connor on gorath and the next day went to play him and a bug made him not exist, so i go to recreate and it says name is taken, so i had to make alonzo.

Alonzo is the name of my RL ancestor "Alonzo Martin Pinzon" the captain of the Nina (and his brother captained the Pinta). (Columbus's ships for those not playing history fact time)

Odantis was just something i came up with on the fly...nothing to it.

Just for laughs

Connor Dohrian is the "real" name of the top rogue character i've ran for years in D&D games and such. I am so good at playing this guy a DM once begged me not to play him, his name as a thief is "Kage" (pronounced like Cage not Kah-gay) and so i passed him off under his real name to sneak him in the game hehe.

It should also be noted that it was originally intended that my character be the negotiator for a group of smugglers (my rl friends that play) but since you can't really smuggle that never happened. I had went with artisan being the most "fitting" to this, made weapons so that I could make illegal weapons to smuggle (was too naive to know better back then) and that's how i was weaponsmith forever.

Later....

Some idiot powergamer was trash talking in the cantina trying to duel us all the time, me being a weaponsmith with novice pistoleer didn't stand a chance. Several people tried to kill him none succeeded. Finally this swordsman comes out of nowhere and just decimates the guy, since he couldn't heal the mind damage.

wasn't long until i started making a lot mroe swords than firearms, and started using them...

that's pretty much the template progression of zo.

by Keahe Triste
Keahi was originally a name I came up with for my half-elf in EQ, but much to my surprise it is a real name with a hawaiian background. The way I pronounced it in my head when I created it was "Kayh-he", never found the real pronunciation of it.

I was just messing around with letter arrangements to find a name that I thought would fit my character, and at the time I was considering wood-elf, or Half Elf. I found a name that seemed suitable for both. When the EQ thing didn't work out I came to SWG and thought it fit with the SW type names and kept it.

Originally I had tried a character on Gorath and had to erase it, so when making my second I had to use Keahe. I just relate it as being the masculine form of Keahi heh. The name means Fire, or Flames. :)

As for my last name Triste, it was another result of manipulating an arrangement of letters (originally started with my real name Trever) and thought the T's would be a good contrast to the very blended together sound of the K, vowels and H. Again I inadvertently created a name that is around... this time I should have noticed it since mine and my girlfriend have a cat named TristeN :P
