Many of you who are familiar with me know of my RP Aid posts. I gather the valuable info from the pencil and pen gaming books published by Wizards of the Coast but ever since Attack of the Clones WotC has not released a single book nor are there plans to begin development on any new game books.
WotC has not stated why this is or if the line has been discontinued but as I was browsing the WotC boards I found a link to a petition that has started to express to WotC that there is interest for new game books. I have already signed it and I hope some of you will too.

Star Wars RPG Petition
Yeah when I saw that I was shocked. If one of you that can post threads on SOE boards do me a favor and post this link there as well?Sepiv wrote:Less than 1,000 signatures still -- c'mon guys!

Problem for me is... I don't like the thought of WotC 'owning' Dungeons and Dragons or the TSR logo in the first place. That damn Magic card game seriously hampered Roleplaying!
Number two... I grew up on West End Game's D6 Star Wars... So... I naturally had a dislike for the D20 system. *shrugs* I'll sign a petition to put Star Wars back in West End Games hands... if they hadn't gone belly up! Or... to get rid of WotC and make TSR it's 'own' label again.
Sorry... guess I'm still bitter.

It seems as of right now that WotC has the licence for SW games (ie Hero Clicks, Card Game, and the P&P RPG). They're still commin out with the Hero Click things and the card game but it looks like they're just sitting on the P&P game.

I prefer Steve Jackson's GURPS to all of them. So um... yeah I don't care.

Batty, I'm with you honestly. WEG Star Wars was what I loved too. But to at least keep getting resource material and ideas flowing on Star Wars I think it's still worthwhile to sign. We can't bring WEG back, sadly.Sai'nu wrote:Problem for me is... I don't like the thought of WotC 'owning' Dungeons and Dragons or the TSR logo in the first place. To be honest I started Roleplaying after WEG lost the licence. I did play their version once but I liked the d20 system more. And when you consider that I got all the WotC books with the exception of the pregenerated quest books one can see why I like it more than the onethat I dont have a single book of.

Yeah, the WEG system was not that good, but the content they had in their books was fantastic. They described how the empire and the rebellion worked remakably well. It's pretty clear that the original designers of SWG used the WEG sourcebooks for info and ideas.Jerrel wrote:To be honest I started Roleplaying after WEG lost the licence. I loved the WEG system because it was quick and simple to learn. Not that complicated so even the gameplay felt 'campy' like the movies. The problem with it occoured after you reached higher 'level' and the 'dice' ammounts just got insanely rediculous. I've adapted WEG SW into a more GURPS style engine easier than I have any other.
Last comment, I promice, it's basically 'because' of the different 'feel' of the D20 system and WotC being responsible, for a degree, in contaminating the RPG industry that I just can't sign petitions like this. Let someone else get the license!

I don't understand how anyone who has played the both D20 and GURPS systems could even try to compare them. I mean I can go grab a die out of a monopoly box and enjoy GURPS. I have to go and buy a bunch of funky dice(entirely a moneymaking thing for them) to play in D20.
Granted I have all the dice because I played D20 for years before I learned of GURPS. But the fact is I can convert any of the old books to GURPS and play that system. WOTC charges way too much for their stuff and I don't necessarily think its all that great.

As I remember GURPS, it's just not heroic enough. And only 4 stats - *YAWN*

By not heroic enough I guess you mean not everyone in your party can have the strength of 20 men. No. In that regard it is quite a bit more realistic.

Well... just in RPG perspective here... Most RPGs can be manipulated by the GM, no matter the system, to be as realistic or unrealistic as you want them to be.
D6, D20, and other systems all have flaws and advantages. It's just, in this case, I simply don't like WotC's version of the SW:RPG.
WEG=User Friendly and Quick
Gurps= UF and Q
D20= A little bogged down in some areas (Probably because AD & D: 2nd Ed is still stuck in my head)
Bottom line... a game system does reflect a certain 'feel' to it's players. But, it's also largely what 'we' decide to make of them. In this case... a few of us here support and a few of us don't support the 'new' SWG:RPG.
