Post Immersion War Feedback (Post After Weekend)

Since the forums will be down during the duration of this I thought it might be nice for those of you participating to have something to come back to after the weekend and work out what worked and what didn't work so well with this.

That said, for when everyone is back:

Thoughts?

What Worked?

What Didn't Work?

What Problems or Benefits did you run into?

Just getting ahead of the game. And, just because I don't want to be a part of a system doesn't mean I can't help develop it. :)

Interesting side effect:

The "Red Dot" on the radar is becoming a Roleplayer Tag for me.

yeah, far as I know, no incidents...was fun catching novall afk and incapping him just for the heck of it though :)

Even though I didn't encounter it as Dwilah, I did participate as Kellar (TTF-S). I RPed with Mercs and others during this time without it being an issue. Nobody that I know of was griefed and nobody took the "just because I have it means I must use it" approach that I experienced (unless both parties were goofing off on voice chat or something and knew what was going on).

I think if anything, what I heard from everyone else and what I would agree with is that it does add immersion (just like the pvp guild war TTF-S was in until recently) because even though nobody is outright attacking you, there's that edge of knowing there will be consequences if somebody does something retarded. You can feel more acutely when you are vulnerable or in a place that is possibly very tense.

However, there's also a "getting used to it" thing. You acclimate to the red on your radar and it's no biggie to be so nervous about--which is what would happen IRL as well.

I see no reason for anyone to be afraid of this immersion-adding system, really. It's just a matter of making sure everyone knows why there are red dots on your screen.

Just an interesting side effect of the war as well, it adds a "crossfire" bit. If Sorain is over there shooting his flamethrower at some guy, the people near him are gonna want to get away, else they have to worry about getting hit as well.

I thought that that was fairly interesting, made for a bit of fun as well, trying to control the crowds.

:D

Now, the next point of higher fidelity gameplay is, "only snipers get to use aimed (ordinary) ranged attacks". Everybody else uses only area attacks so you actually get Line of Sight problems with aiming at an enemy through a group of friendlies :)

Personally, I havent seen anything NOT work about it. Nobody has went off the deep end over it or started killing anyone. I think because our members are fairly responsiable people, your not going to have to worry about this going south.

Yeah, I would like to see this happen either permanenty or like every weekend (covering most of our events). There has not been any problems I've heard of, and it really does add an immersive feeling.

As for area attacks Batak, it's your discretion to use them at any time. In most cases, it will likely get the attention of anyone that get's hit, but I doubt anyone would seriously beat you down over it. Once people notice they aren't under attack personally, I don't see them jumping in. Also gives a real reason to "take it outside" as opposed to just doing so as a formality.

yeah think about it realistically....if someone is using a launcher pistol, or flamethrower, or rocket launcher indoors...there probably SHOULD be some concern by the other patrons..this immersion war helps with that.

so far the war is 5/5

bataK: you aren't being forced to pvp, at all, period. That's only thing i don't understand. If you don't put yourself ina situation that would make someone want to jump you...you won't be in pvp....if you rp yourself into that kind of position but would still want someone to be unable to attack you...well...we call that Salous Syndrome

Actually, in my mind it does. What kind of feedback can you provide if you are not participating?

None. I offered a place for those participating to voice their concerns with this thread because I thought it 'might' help (Looking at it now, perhaps I shouldn't have done this part at all). That's the only forseeable way I thought I could contribute to it. Thus trying to support it for those that 'want' to participate in it as a community.

What is the "WTF" for? All it seemed that Batak did was start a thread for people that were going to participate in the war.

If someone never had a problem sticking to the old system, there is no reason why not getting into the new one makes them some kind of coward. Or as someone put it, Salous Syndrom. Some people have this thing about being able to attack anyone at any time that makes them feel warm and fuzzy. Others don't like having such forced upon them without their consent.

That makes sense to me. Of course my character doesn't have a decent PVP template yet, which is why I would decide A) not to start an argument with someone who will whipsmack my cheeks. B) not to participate in a GW just for the heck of it.
