Chelsea residents, however, believed God spoke on their behalf as the engines of more than 100 Veterans of Foreign Wars motorcycles drowned out the voices of the Westboro Baptist Church members who were allowed to protest from 1-1:30 p.m. before the 2 p.m. funeral services for Staff Sgt. John Glen Doles.

How utterly disrespectful... I am beyond words and dumfounded... and how cruel. These Idiots held up signs that read. Presumably for the grieving to read....

I'm not posting this to start something. There is much more that can said here but I wish to set politics aside. I'm posting this because I find myself upset at the cruelty of these protesters. I do not know Staff Sgt. John Glen Doles, yet I needed to step away from my desk and found myself grieving for him and his family.

Whats even more sad is that our Constitution protects these people. These protesters will say things like "Their not fighting for my freedom." ect ect. I say gather people like this up and drop'em on an iceburg so the civilized people dont have to breath their polluted air.

Yes anyone that is truly reading the word of God according to the baptists will see that God does not punish. The whole prinicpal of their and my God is a God of love and forgiveness.

He allows certain things to take place or happen yes to test ones resolve and convictions as he did Job however he does not punish. This is made quite clear after the great Flood and the destruction of Sadom and Gamora (SP).

The problem is like in any other social group the leaders can twist the followers. In this case I'm sure the pastor is using the pulpit to push his agenda instead of that of Gods but doing it in God's name.

This is quite prevalent in most if not all forms of religon. Unfortunately due to the large number of different denominations of the Christian religon and it's strong hold in America they take most of the flack for such actions in this country.

If this article were true then switzerland or sweeden I forget which would be severely punished for their legalizing such homosexual behavior as well as other far worse 'sins' according to the Bible.

This type of thing just really pisses me off, and yet at the same time I can't help but feel sorry for those people having been so duped and mislead.

That aside, The gall and ignorance of these people is disgusting. I find it very inspiring however that this came out of it also:

The locals had a couple of signs of their own. Three older women held up a white sheet that said SHOW AMAZING GRACE and two young people held a cardboard sign saying YE WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE.

This paragraph at least shows that some of the citizens had some sense of common decency. Using a soldier's death to protest your outlandish claims is not only poor taste, it is insulting to everyone who is, has, knows, someone in the armed forces. I have the deepest respect for those who have chosen to give their lives so that I can work and raise a family here in peace.

That kind of disrespect is not just uncalled for, it is completely wrong.

I was never fond of seeing things like this while I was in the military and like it even less now.

The Staff Sgt. has my respect. I think that's all I can say without getting too... abbrasive in other areas.

These protesters are a clasic example of The Third Basic Law.

"A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses."

What do they actually gain? Did they convince the 100+ VFW motorcyclists and the grieving family that their point of view was well founded? No. In the process, they turned something painful into a circus and even more painful.

I meet my fair share of Helpless. Up here, where I work, I meet more than my fair share of Bandits, however they are more BS than BI. Just guessing from the driving around here, that the constant for the Stupid has to be greater than 50%. Unfortunately, the constant for the Intelligent appears to be less than 15%.

Thinking back on the places I've lived, and going by anecdotal evidence from others, I would guess that is true of most areas.
