Forever Changed by Last Night's RP

The most amazing thing that has ever happened to me in game happened yesterday. I seriously felt like I was playing Star Wars the first time EVER because my immersion got deeper than it ever had. A teras kasi master saw me with my vibro knuckler (he also saw me doing miserably) and took me to the side and asked me about my training.

The guy, who never broke out of character, trained me in PvP and what it means to fight as a teras kasi and how a teras kasi are rare and that they too would be hiding from the emperor.

It was amazing because a true master in the game taught me how to use my profession in ways I had never thought. Yesterday I was a moron, spamming the most powerful moves I could to win with brute force. He challenged me, defeated me easily with less powerful moves and told me why I failed. I learned about my profession and I learned that I don't know how to play, that being a teras kasi means you role play when fighting; meaning the same amount of thought goes in to fighting a person as talking to a person, you analyze them and behave accordingly. Roleplaying when fighting means that you win.

I have been making the same mistake as many other teras kasi by spamming powerful commands. He showed me there is a true art to it. There are reasons to decide what commands to use in game. He told me what to try next, dueled me again and showed me how I got better, SIGNIFICANTLY better.

I invited him to the boards and I really hope he comes. There is so much that roleplaying can do in game, so many aspects that this guy brought to the table that I have never before experienced. Aspects that I need to really enjoy.

I can't be the same player I was yesterday. Because I realize its up to us, the veteran players, to at least offer new people the ability to at least "grow up" in this kind of atmosphere. These boards were never more important.

PS. Did anyone know there is an underground fight club in Anchorhead? Run by an eccentric rp'er that never respond to tells?

That's awsome. Every day I get more and more suprised by the people on gorath that are roleplayers whom no one ever knows about. I have to admit that this board has brought a lot of very well known RPers together, but it's also brought out a lot that I've never seen, let alone talked to, that are credits to our community. I love to see the RP community on Gorath grow and I love that we're all a part of it and contributing to it on a daily basis.

Coiyonite, what you experienced yesterday is one of the coolest things I've heard happen in SWG and it couldn't have happened to a better person...now if only you weren't evil :P

That's awesome. I love it when unexpected people give you a chance to really get into character. I had an unexpected encounter with a scummy imperial bounty hunter last night that I had prior dealings with. We missed 2 shuttles while trading insults and maneuvering.. it was great!

It's amazing how the truly exceptional roleplayers can set the mood with just a few words. I have met a few of these and am constantly amazed. I do not consider myself exceptional by any means.. but I constantly strive to improve.

No, I was not aware there was a fight club in ancorhead. I fought there a few times way back in the day when I was bored like October-November.

Yes! Amongst many other things. I have thought about PvP in ways I haven't before. Its truly an art and perhaps it is not as unbalanced as I once thought.

It truly is. I almost never PvP, but I usually hang onto my combat professions for a very long time. As a result I end up getting pretty good at them. As a person, I tend to be very experimental in my thinking. I like to play. This usually leads to a good understanding of how my character can fight.

We should duel sometime. A tougher Master Dancer you will not find.

That I am keeping a secret now for various reasons, but I have not lost him, we are on each other's friends list. The way he met me would expose a dirty secret about my character.

Any chance you could ask him if he is willing to take on another student? I have some things I can't seem to get over in my training, I try different things but end up just going right back to the most powerful moves. I'm not ashamed to admit PvP is not somewhere I have alot of experience. I'm TKM by the way...

Me Either PvP is a huge Downfall for my Character.. I may give up on rifles due to this...

I was more effective in pvp when I was a master squad leader/master carbineer than with any other profession save my doctor/cm. I have found I play a better support role in pvp than an actual front line soldier. But then again sometimes it is better to be the one to keep the troops alive than be the one who is the slayer of ones foes.
