Honestly, everything was going fine until this weekend. Being on the run was fun.. I have to admit. It was imersive. So, what went wrong?
One of the problems is I simply think we ran it to long.
Sure, jedi players get hunted, but once they get caught, they are off the terminals. They get a break. There are things a jedi can do to prevent themselves from being listed.
This was a constant on the edge of you seat hunt for 8 days for the hunted. Even if you were a hunter, you could take a break. But the hunted, we were looking for the incoming red dot on a speeder from the mement we logged on till the moment we logged off. Hell, even logging in was kind of tense because if you logged out in a public area, you could be sitting in the middle of some hunters. I think this made us (the hunted players) a little thin skinned and edgy. Very imersive. Not very good if you need to resolve a dispute.
This was interspaced with some pretty intense RP scenes.
If this is a cause or part of the cause for the breakdown in some small fraction, then this is our (the hunted's) fault because we should have taken and OOC break.
Your personal Analysis of what went wrong
I hope this doesn't mean its coming to an end. Cause its just getting good now.

I simply think it was a matter of communications breakdown. Yes, it was exciting to finally get a feel for the warring mechanic. But, there was also too much dependent on log time really and the affor mentioned communications breakdown. It was very in the dark and we only had one real piece of information throughout it all; and a very repetitive cycle of capture and release...
Odds stacked against you + only 'given' outs (Personally, it felt like an overused plot device too... Temple getting captured has been in so many of the plots over the past year.)= less fun in the end. As opposed to something that didn't begin with Temple... that's just a personal thing for me though. I would like us to figure out a way to give everyone some fun with this in the end.
That just covers the story arc problems.
On the flip side... during this story arc what went right was the guild war testing. I think, with what we've learned from it we can apply it openly to our story arcs without fear of it being an abused game mechanic. And this is comming from someone who adamantly was against this to begin with; And I still think it has it's potential problems.
Overall... I don't think we should have worked on story while trying to do this testing. Rather, I don't think we should've tried to go forward with a conceptual thing as one of our official story arcs.. a no posting, just free flow testing and nothing set in stone as having have happened to our characters approach. At least given it was a 'test' thing... but the perception was we were 'testing' during something more... official.
Too little communications, unavoidable log times, lop sided sides,... I just think we needed more time for set up and communications before proceeding. That's all from me.

I can at least say it wasn't abused. I ran into several red dots throughout the weekend, but we had nothing going so nothing happened, which is good for me
I would like to see more of the RP guilds involved in some kind of story that would merit more overall participation. Other than that I think it's cool.

From what I could tell (now admittedly, I'm only getting mostly MERCS side, but also taking in what I've read here), the storyline seemed to stagnate. The capturing of Temple members was only meant to be a way to draw Ekade out for a meeting if I remember correctly, not even some execution. I don't know why MERCS wanted Ekade, or where it was supposed to go from there, but that was the goal.
The breakdown seemed to come when a few times MERCS captured Temple, and Ekade never showed. Either bad timing and she wasn't online, or in one instance, just didn't want to come seemingly because she thought it was walking into a gank squad rather than furthering a story arc. Both sides (yes, even the MERCS on vent) kind got frustrated with it since it began to feel like a level in a video game they just couldn't pass.
Just my observations. A couple times I've felt out of the loop, although Trade Sec was involved a little the other day with the use of our prison. I'm just trying to catch up and hope to see this come to a good end, rather than leaving everyone with mixed feelings on it.

The focus was misplaced, and thats what hurt this event more then anything else. It seemed like everyone was more interested in kidnapping people other then trying to find the clues that would lead them to possiable answers.
I'll take the blame on this going wrong because I should have pushed the story along more instead of sitting back and trying to see if things would unfold on their own.
There was alot of talk about "God" modes, but in my opinion thats just not the case. What happend is that everyone was to focused on one part of this event to try to move on to another. I spent roughtly 200k placing event perks on Saturday and sending out a starter email to get things rolling. What really set me off was the whole tombstone incident. I felt like I was running from a lynch mob heh.

Ha-ha, you fool. You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia", but only slightly less well known is this: "Never underestimate the players ability to mess up your planned story arc"

What is this word you keep saying? I do not think it means what you think it means.

I'm going to cast my vote for communication breakdown. The only way I really knew if anything was going on was if I was in the actual RP scene or logged into ventrillo. For example, yesterday afternoon I log in and find out that Ekade and Isleh-lin escaped and are walking around town, and I'm like :-? Meanwhile all last night I'm trying to get information out of Dwilah on where I think they moved Ekade to. Wasted time and a little frustrating IRL, realizing that I'm completely in left field on this.
As for trying to further the plotline instead of keeping the stream of capturing going, I was trying to, but I'm pretty out of the loop IG-contactswise. Any suggestions?
Hope this helps, and thank you!
