Signature Files Turned Off

About 25% of the users on this board who have signature images have been in violation of signature file sizing rules, some of them for quite a while. This has been an ongoing problem and I am tired of hearing about our mods trying to enfore the rule via PM's amongst a hesitant response. We try to enforce these rules for the sake of our dial-up users and users with low screen resolutions.

I love sig files. Ask the old-schoolers here, they'll tell you I was the first one to come up with a sweet looking SWG sig file in this community. But the place looks like a traffic accident when they get too big. We also have sizing rules for the xfire banners which there are some ongoing violations of as well.

So instead of watching the mods try to deal with it, I just flipped the switch for now. No more sig files. If you want to make your own avatar for your toon you can still do that. There are sizing rules for avatars as well - so I would hope that no one abuses that rule. Oversized avatars WILL be enforced. An oversized avatar can break the forum theme and make them nearly unreadable.

Thanks for the PSA Jabe, I was kinda freaking out.

Is there a chance that we can re-engineer ours for a UN inspection, and possibly bring them back?

(I am crying inside)

I love sig files and I don't want to see them gone for good. Some people do some really nice screen caps like the one toront did recently.

Before they can come back everyone has to have their sizing fixed. I am also going to talk to the mods about how to handle this in the future. Its not a big deal and it shouldn't be. But it becomes one when there is a a growing list of people posting huge sigs.

Instead of being a prude and modding sigs, I just turned them all off for now. I don't have time to edit an upward of 10 accounts.

The mods are trying to do their jobs and be as fair as possible, especially amongst recent crticism. I did this to give them a break and to give people a chance to clean it up.

You could start another stickie thread ( or it can be done in this one ) where members can post links to their sigs for review to assist the Mods.

I second Isleh's idea, but do as you wish.

I completely understand this problem, and hope that it is resolved quickly.
Even though I have a high speed connection, I appreciate the effort to keep our boards clean.

Well, to speak of my sig, are the violating members being PMed, or something? I'm fairly sure I'm not beyond boundaries, but I want to be sure, so I can fix it.

Most people have been PM'ed, there are a few that haven't. If you view you sig in a web browser most browsers will tell you it's size when you right click and go to properties.

Thanks :D

Hoping to see them back soon. And if we are voting in any way, I say a "sig review" thread or something sounds like a good idea, where it goes there first and a mod says if it's okay.

We are not voting in any way.

In case you haven't noticed, this place is now run by benevolent dictators.

Speaking of which, where's my fat sacks of cash? I want to make a hat out of all of my money...

You didn't get yours yet? And yeah I didn't really expect a vote. We aren't big on committees.

Well since my sig was made by a mod here anyways it has always fit the rules and I have always set my Xfire to thin and long which last I heard was okay. At any rate I am just ganna put my feet up and wait. I like my sig so I am also kinda interested when they come back.

Isn't there some kind of limitation you can put on sig sizes? I remember on forums I use that some will automaticaly reject any sigs over the set parameter .

It will be handled one way or the other.
